Fighting The Storm
She's got the Rhythm, that I can't forget
It's been almost a week since Crystal showed up at the Sullivan residence, as Jimmy's child. She hasn't spoken much to anyone, and she was always scratching her arms when ever the guys had come around the house to hang out. She'd always be the odd one out sitting on the couch with him and Leana silent, while everyone was loud and laughing. She'd ask if she could go upstairs, to her room, which was still the guest room. Jimmy tried to protest, but Leana would usually stop him. He was growing worried about her. He knew she wasn't used to the whole family thing from what he could see, but she never spoke to him about living with Angelica, he just wished she would tell him something instead of thinking he didn't care about anything.
He sighed, sitting up in his bed. Yesterday was a rough day for him and the guys, they had to make up some excuse for leaving the house to his own daughter so they could go to a CD signing, then they came back drunk, and passed out. Everyone was passed out downstairs, and Jimmy some how made it to his bed room, he couldn't remember how.
He got out of bed and walked into his walk in bathroom. He took a long shower, knowing that Leana would be at work already.
When he got out of the shower, he got dressed and went down stairs. It seemed no one was home, except for the small sounds coming from the basement. It sounded like his drumset. He investigated the sounds and began to walk down his stairs. It indeed was the soft sound of his drum kit. He stood at the bottom of the stairs, seeing something that shocked him the most. Crystal sat at his all time favorite drum kit, hitting them softly to the loud beat of the song blaring from her headphones, her head bobing to the music.
He stared at his daughter, proud but shocked, and also a little bit mad she didn't ask first. He made this loud "AHEM" sound, causing her to falter and drop the drum sticks. She gasped, looking up.She got out of the chair quickly pulling out the headphones. "L-Leana said I could play if I wanted to... I-I-I-I'm sorry" She stammered quickly, picking up the sticks, putting them back into their original place.
Jimmy laughed and walked over to her. He reached out and pulled back quickly when she stepped back, flinching. "Crystal, I'm not going to hurt you" Jimmy said, putting his hands up in defence. A look of relief washed over her face and she nodded, scratching her arm. He could see the red marks she was leaving. He reached out and quickly grabbed her hands. "Oh Crystal, you need to stop doing that. Please? It's worrying me... Have you been to the doctors at all?" He asked her.
"The only time I was at the doctors when Mom- Uhh... I mean I fell down the stairs when I was 10" She muttered to him. "When Mom what Crystal?" Jimmy asked curiously. "She told me not to tell anyone. If I did she'd hurt me more" Crystal whispered quietly to Jimmy. "Look, Angelica won't hurt you anymore... What did she do to you Crystal?" Jimmy asked quietly, leaning down so he could look her in the eye. "She hit me, pushed me down the stairs... She let them touch me" She sobbed out. A glint of anger was in Jimmy eyes.
He pulled her into a hug, and then pulled away, he grabbed her hand and led her up the stairs. "Were going to have a fun day, just you me and the guys alright? We'll take you shopping" Jimmy said, trying to think over what Crystal just told her. He need something to take her mind off what she just told him, he didn't want her to not do anything but cry.
He called Matt, who called the others, and then everyone ended up in his house. Crystal was scratching her arms like hell. He sighed, "I guess you only scratch when you feel nervous eh kid?" Johnny asked her. She looked at him, not answering his question. "Alright you guys, shopping, then doctors" Jimmy announced. Everyone scattered to their right full cars outside, Jimmy, Matt and Crystal all got into Matts car since Leana had the SUV.
What a day today's going to be Jimmy thought, smiling.
