Keep the Faith

Seize The Day

Uniforms, everyone wore the same uniform, a dark blue skirt and a white shirt. She hated it with passion but it couldn't be helped; it was the rule of the school. A high class school where they banned anything that showed the person you really were. It didn't matter though, even if everyone wore the same uniform, the personalities of those persons were still visible, through the way they acted, the way they talked, those little things that made a person who they were.

During the school hours, any technology was forbidden, except the ones accepted by the teachers and necessary for the lessons like a calculator or a computer. They had no internet access however, the school was strict on whatever happened on them and if the students had to do research, they were always sent down to the library of the school, a big common room with thousands of books on everything you could dream of.

In the weekends, the students went home, joined their parents, caught up on all the news they had missed and called friends they hadn't heard in ages, listened to their music all day long, hoping that in those two days, all the bad feelings would go away again and they would be able to go back to school, feeling better and refreshed to fight another week.

Slowly, the students changed. Groups that were once so tight started to fall apart by arguments, differences between people and sudden change of heart. Some people joined the groups while others left to join a new group of friends that fitted better with their new self.

The groups even had names, you had several of them, depending on what band you liked, how you acted and who you were as a person. You had the nerds, who knew about everything there was to know and managed to sneak in their technology in the school anyway, always informing people of the latest gossip in the world. You had the rich people, who found themselves popular and loved by everyone, but also envied by some of them. And you had the social butterflies that went from one person to the other one in matter of minutes, just to gossip, talk or catch up with friends.

And then there was the group our main character was in. The smallest group of them all, more into the dark side of music, even though her favorite band was My Chemical Romance, just like some of her friends. Gossip was their main hobby, gossiping about their bands and the new found rumors that were spreading over the internet, like the foot chest rumor, or the rumor that either one of the girlfriends of said member was pregnant again. While they all knew none of them were true, they amused the little group greatly.

“Well, to be honest, sometimes I really don't like Gerard's live voice, it just, disturbs me,” one of the girls said, rolling her eyes.

“He has his moments,” another girl said, her eyes more directed to her nails and barely even listening to the conversation going on.

“I like them live,” a quiet voice said, ignored by the others who just kept talking about the new DVD and what they liked about it and disliked.

“They got boring. This 'Black Parade' stuff has been annoying me, I'm tired of it, I want the old My Chemical Romance back, the ones that made good music,” the same girl who made the comment about Gerard’s voice said.

“It's just a phase, they're on break right now aren't they? They'll come back better than ever,” the quiet voice said, more to herself than to the group that once again ignored it.

“The DVD wasn't all that good either, I expected better, I mean, their live shows can be epic sometimes but it wasn't enough to keep my attention up on that screen the whole time,” one of the boys in the group said, one of the few boys.

The girl, to whom the quiet voice belonged to, fiddled with the hem of her shirt before she sighed and shook her head at her friends. They were bringing down her favorite band, their favorite band for no reason. She didn't get it. The tour was perhaps a little bit long for the album, they didn't bring out a lot of new stuff lately, but that was no reason to stop believing in them now, was it?

The bell rang, making the girl breathe out in relief slightly before standing up, saying goodbye to her friends and quickly moving down to her respective class for that hour. Passing the big mirror in the hallway, the girl quickly fixed her hair for a moment, jumping up slightly when she saw the reflection of people in it. Her eyes scanned the hallway, nobody was around her, which spooked her out. Forgetting about the incident, the girl walked to her class and didn't think of it again.

Even in class, there was a mirror, in every class there was one, just for the teachers, or for decoration, the girl didn't quite know, she didn't want to find out either. She liked staring in it as it hung up high and reflected the outside grounds and part of the class on the other side from where she was sitting.

The mirror showed people dancing this time, making the girl open her eyes and hold in her breath for a moment before she realized that she must be dreaming. Letting out her breath, the girl put her attention back to the class, trying not to glance back at the mirror. Her attempts were futile though, the moment her eyes shot back at the mirror, she saw, only for a brief moment but she was sure of it, Gerard Way passing through the dancing crowd.

Letting her books fall on the floor, and so interrupting the lesson, the girl was quickly sent down to her room, not to come out of it until she was told to; her punishment would come later. Looking at the mirror in her room, she once again saw the dancing crowd with Gerard Way passing through it, and if she was not mistaken, looking straight at her with those eyes of his that could drop any girl to their feet.

Waiting until it was later in the night, the girl crept on her bare feet back to the main hall of the school, looking in the mirror with the flashlight firm in her hand, the dancing crowd appeared again, even though she was completely alone. All of the sudden, Gerard Way was standing right in front of her, at least, his reflection in the mirror. She smiled as she saw him sing, the crowd dancing with big smiles on their face. The girl placed her hand on the mirror, almost wanting to jump right in and join the crowd but quickly pulled her hand back at the coldness of the mirror's shining surface.

Reaching out for Gerard, he did the same on the other side of the mirror but before she could even lay down her fingers on it, Gerard's hand reached out for hers and pulled her to him, wrapping his other arm around her shoulders to pull her closer to his chest. When the girl opened her eyes again, she was in the dancing crowd, her grin brightened up as she moved towards the stage where the music came from, where My Chemical Romance was performing for all of their grinning fans, dancing to the music and singing along with every word of the songs.

The girl realized, standing between the fans, that there wasn't one person in the room that was abandoning the band, they were all there, no matter how much they changed, no matter how much time it took them to release something new and no matter how weird Gerard's voice sounded sometimes when he was up on that stage.

Finally, the girl felt at home between them, even though her clothes looked out of place, she didn't mind, her eyes were fixed on Gerard, who was being showered in glitter confetti while he moved over the small round stage.

Holding up his hand after the song, Gerard silenced his fans before clasping his hands over the microphone and smirking, looking at every one of them before he opened his mouth and softly whispered in the microphone.

“Stop waiting for tomorrow and start living for today.”
