A Thousand to One

The Lunch Date

23:

Matt returned from praising Bambi, taking Jareds place beside me at the piano.
"Alibear you never told me you could play that well!" He nudged my shoulder, making me smile. "But nevertheless, we can make progress on perfection! You've gotta win that talent show!" I rolled my eyes at his strict teacher act,
"I'm not performing in the talent show, it's not my thing."
"Alibear!" He whined,
"Mattiekins!" I mimicked back, he huffed and crossed his arms, pouting like a little kid. I laughed and wrapped my arms round him, he eventually gave in and hugged back.
"So where'd the Leto brothers go?" Matt asked aloud, I looked around for Shannon, my brows creased as I saw no sign of him. Actually thinking about it, Jared had been quite a while with that phone call…

I shrugged it off, focusing my attention back to the piano and humming along to the Coldplay song as I played. After about five minutes the Letos returned; both seeming stressed out, Shannon however had a face of thunder, a few younger campers backed out of his way as he barged through the room, towards where I knew he kept his drum kit. Sure enough, loud beats and bashings of symbols were heard not long after, muted slightly by the soundproof walls. Matt turned to the seemingly less angry little brother,
"Hey Jare, what's up?" He asked, Jared looked up with a troubled expression that quickly softened.
"Oh it's nothing, just my mom checking up on me and Shannon." It sounded like a little lie, but I wouldn't judge him. Both Matt and I shrugged it off and I went back to continue playing, Matt occasionally barking instructions at me as to how to play, which became quite comical.

"It doesn't sound right!" He exclaimed, I sighed heavily and turned to the dark haired boy,
"Well how should it sound? I played it right!" A twinge of annoyance came through my voice accidentally, I eased up and calmed myself down, he meant well.
"It sounds like the River! It needs to sound like the Wind!" He half yelled at me, putting on an art enthusiast voice, yet his face stayed serious. I looked at him like he'd grown two heads, before bursting out laughing; his mouth twitched slightly, fighting off a smile as his face gave in to laughing.

"Of all the people," I started, calming down my giggles "I could have made friends with, of all the normal people in this camp." I shook my head smiling,
"You met me." He finished.

We were about half way through the day, most of the other campers including Shannon and Bambi had gone to different departments, enjoying their free day. I sat at the piano, my hands crossing up and down the keys to the intro of Bliss by Muse; I groaned and softly hit my fist on the top of the piano as my fingertips slipped, making yet another sour note echo around the quiet room. I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and a chin rest on my shoulder,
"Wanna take a break and get some lunch? You deserve one after all." Jared mumbled into my ear, his breath tickling the side of my face as it involuntarily began to smile. Instead of letting my nerves take over at his forwardness, I placed my forearms on his and squeezed slightly, hearing his breath hitch a little made me giggle softly,
"Sure."

We exited the Music Room together and headed to the Hall, I walked up to the buffet while Jared found us a place to sit. Filling up two plates with food I liked and food I guessed he liked before picking up some cutlery, before walking towards the table he was currently waving from.
"Hey thanks! I didn't expect you to get me food too." He smiled as I sat down facing him, handing him his plate and cutlery.
"No worries, I couldn't carry drinks too though." I frowned at myself, he shook his head and stood up,
"No problem, can I get you anything?" I looked back at the drinks on offer, most of the popular choices already cleared out by previous hungry campers,
"Hmm, if they have any Iced Tea left then yeah, please." He returned shortly with two Peach Iced Teas, before we both tucked into our meals.

“It feels weird the fact that we're already over half way through camp now,” Jared said thoughtfully “like, we've only just started getting to know each other...” We both twirled our forks in thought, he was right after all, we only had a few more days here.

A few more days til I never see him again...

That thought instantly saddened me, what about Shannon? Bambi? Matt? Would we even keep in touch? Who knew.

I shrugged my shoulders,
“We still have a lot of time, anything can happen in a few days time.” He nodded at my statement and flashed a smile; oh that smile, gets my heart every time. He stood up, taking mine and his finished plates back to the kitchens, before returning and following me out of the building.

“So what do you want to do now?” I looked around, wondering how to answer, I didn't really know myself,
“Hmm, I might hit the climbing wall, my hands hurt a bit from the piano.” I frowned down at my hands, one of my wrists made a creaking sound as I turned my palms over, definitely out of practice.
“That's cool, if it's okay with you I might go play some tennis, I think I saw Sera over there earlier.”
“Sounds good, guess i'll catch you later?” He smiled and nodded, enveloping me in a hug, my hands resting on his muscular back for a few moments; my sappy, hopeless romantic heart couldn't help but take in and savor those few seconds. Alas, my brain forced myself to pull away, say goodbye and walk in the opposite direction.
