Hanru Sazuki Volume Two Chapter Twenty-Two: Separate Ways (Summer 2012)

Hanru Narrating: This is it. This is the end. Power is something none of us truly have, but crave. Without power or control, we are nothing. We are weak. Many things control our lives: Sex, women, abuse, low self-esteem, drinking, drugs, and intelligence. The list goes on of course, but the simple fact is nothing is in our control; not even our own lives. Destiny controls who we really are and what we become. Deny it all we want, but it’s the truth. Control of ourselves is something we all can have but we must realize that we all are limited to how much control we have over ourselves… or is there a limit? When it comes to power and control, you’re dealing with something very significant within any being. Just make sure you control yourself and don’t get power hungry, cause if you do, the time it takes you to realize what you’ve become, it’ll be too late and you would have hit rock bottom to learn the hard way that having too much power, is only good if you know how to use it for the correct reasons.)

Hanru: (Panicking) Tell me where Debbie is, or I’ll cut your tongue out.

(Shido remains silent and gives Hanru an insulting grin. Hanru slams his palm onto Shido’s jaw and tightens his grip.)

Hanru: I am in no mood for games. Tell me where she is now.

Shido: W-why do you care?

Hanru: Why do I care? (Releases his grip)

Shido: Back in Vegas Debbie poured her heart out to you and you just let her walk away; only moments after the two of you reunited she jumped in the way and took 4 bullets for you and not once did you wonder whether she was still alive or not. I wasn’t sure whether you truly cared for her or not, so I kidnapped her and decided to use her as a test to see if you truly did care. It seems I now have my answer.

Kaito: Hanru, this girl is obviously important to you.

Hanru: (Defensive) No, she’s not, Kaito.

Kaito: Don’t forget who you’re talking to. I think the same way you do. That girl Debbie rubs you in a tender spot. You’re so disconnected from your emotions you forgot how to feel compassion for another person. You can’t keep clouding your feelings.

Hanru: (Tensed up) Clouding my feelings is what I’m best at doing. I’ve done it my whole life and I will always continue to do it.

Kaito: You’re tense, you’re shaking, you’re scared. In my line of work, I know that look of fear all too well. That look in your eye is the same look I had when my sister was kidnapped. I know how you feel, Hanru. You need to learn to not let your guard up so much when it comes to your personal feelings.

Hanru: Is that what turned you into such a control freak?

Kaito: We’re not talking about me right now; focus on Debbie. You know you care about her. Now if you want to find her alive, we need Shido’s help. She was shot 4 times. She’ll need professional medical attention. And I’m sure the entire time this psycho has had her locked down here, he was attending to her wounds.

Hanru: We don’t know what kind of drugs he’s using to keep her stabilized. I see what you’re saying.

Shido: You don’t honestly think I’m going to tell you where she is, do you? I’d rather die.

Kaito: That can be arranged. (Places an axe on the coffin) But only on Hanru’s call.

Hanru: Wait, you’re putting his fate in my hands? I don’t want to be the one to give orders of execution. His blood will still be on my hands.

Kaito: Then I say we kill him now and find Debbie ourselves.

Shido: Oh but Kaito, Debbie has something your wife needs. Debbie has the cure to her poison.

Kaito: Do not play games with me right now!

Shido: (Grins) Oh but you all have been playing a game this entire time.

Hanru: What are you talking about?

Shido: Like I said before, I have control over the minds of those in my web. You are all just trapped insects waiting for me to suck the life out of you all!

Hanru: You keep postponing your own life, why? You know we all want you dead, so why do you continue to play these games with us?

Shido: In due time, boy.

(Hanru grabs the axe from Kaito and bashes Shido in the face with the side of the metal part.)

Hanru: (Angry) I do not have to patience for this right now! Just tell me what we need to know!

Shido: (Coughs up blood) It was all a part of my plan to get the two of you working together. Lee, Debbie, Sandra, Daniel. They were all captured at the same time because I’ve planned for you two to get through this as partners. Excuse me for having a little fun.

(Natasha storms into the room upset.)

Natasha: Why is he not burning yet?!

Hanru: We got a new problem.

Shido: I have Debbie locked away in here somewhere. In Debbie’s room is another vile which contains another antidote for Kaito’s wife Sandra. I’m the only one who knows where to find them, so I’ll need to be kept alive a bit longer to guide you all through. Of course I’m sure you all figured out by now I was bluffing earlier about you all being poisoned earlier.

Natasha: Who is Debbie?

Hanru: You and I talked about Debbie back in Vegas, remember?

Natasha: I’ve been in a coma the past 3 years, if my soul was inside of you the entire time, that means I don’t remember anything between you and I!

Hanru: Right, sorry.

Natasha: Don’t be sorry; just don’t say stupid things again. Shido will most likely try and trap us down here while trying to find that girl and the last antidote cause he knows there’s no way out for him and he’s going to die. We can’t trust him, so we should just kill him now and get it over with.

Shido: That’s fine with me.

Natasha: You do the honors, Kaito.

Hanru: What about Debbie?

Natasha: She’s already dead, kid. Our lives are not worth risking to save hers. For all we know, she could already be dead; if she is still alive, she could be in a coma, paralyzed. If she’s just barely hanging on to her life and we find her alive, Shido could trap us down here for us to rot and die!

Kaito: She does have a point. Either way you look at it, she’ll be dead sooner or later.

Shido: We don’t have all day, people; either you kill me or you don’t.

Hanru: (Pauses for a few seconds) I need to make sure she’s alright.

Natasha: Kaito, kill him now.

Hanru: No, Kaito, don’t!

Natasha: (Angrily runs up to Hanru) Dang it, kid! What’s your problem! Why are you getting your dick hard over this chick!

Hanru: She took four bullets for me. She was willing to sacrifice her own life to save mine. She sold all of her belongings just to raise enough money for an assassin to kill Kaito and stop him from coming after me. I owe her for what she’s done for me.

Natasha: I honestly don’t care about your feelings for this girl. I don’t care what she’s done for you in the past, right now, all that matters is that Shido dies and you’re safe from everyone trying to kill you.

Hanru: I’m not giving up on her, Natasha. I’m going to find her one way or another. I don’t need to drag your negativity with me, so I’ll go alone.

Kaito: I’ll go too. You and I are partners now.

Shido: I can assure you there are no traps waiting for you down here. My plan was never to kill any of you; my plan was to test Hanru and Kaito. I’ve kept Debbie alive for a reason. You have no reason to trust me, but I am telling you the truth.

Natasha: Fine, I’ll help you look for her, kid. But don’t ask me for anymore favors.

Shido: Surprisingly, she’s not very hard to find. I’ve build an underground dungeon down here. There are so many torture chambers and prison cells down here. There’s a person inside every room. I’m confident none of them are still alive. I haven’t been feeding any of them.

Kaito: You’re sick, Shido.

Natasha: Let’s just find this girl. Which room is she in?

Shido: She’s behind the door hidden under the stairs you took to get down here.

(Seconds later Kaito opens the door under the stairs and sees Debbie lying on the floor crying. The door leads to a hallway. She’s lying on her stomach while she holds it in pain tries to stop any more blood from leaking out. She’s wearing a white and blue hospital gown. Her left hand is extended and it has a blooded scalpel in it. Her entire body is covered in sweat, dirt, and blood. Hanru walks into the room and sees her crying out in pain. Hanru quickly runs to her in panic.)

Hanru: Debbie!

(Hanru grabs Debbie’s arms and she begins screaming and squirming around.)

Debbie: NO, NO! GET AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE!

Hanru: (Struggling to keep her still) Debbie… Debbie, stop. Calm down!

(Hanru wraps his forearm around her neck and uses his other hand to stop Debbie from stabbing him with the scalpel.)

Hanru: Debbie, calm down; it’s me, it’s Hanru.

(Debbie’s breathing is heavy, but she begins to slowly calm down.)

Debbie: Hanru?

(Hanru and Debbie both lower their arms and look each other deep in one another’s eyes.)

Debbie: (Smiles) You came all this way for me.

Hanru: I’m sorry, Debbie. I’m so sorry. I was so cruel to you and not once did I stop to think about how much you really cared for me.

Debbie: The reason why I love you so much…

Hanru: Hey, don’t fall asleep. Just stay with me now. (Taps her in the face) Come on.

Debbie: I never knew who I really was. I never had a purpose or hope to continue on in life. I had simply given up. I just used my body and my good looks to get whatever I wanted from guys, but you were different. You cared for me and you saw something I… never thought was there. You gave me a reason to live. (Places hand on Hanru’s cheek) There’s just something about you that gives me a reason to keep on… going. I live to serve you and make you happy no matter what.

(Tears begin to fall from both of their eyes.)

Hanru: I’m gonna get you out of here okay. You just hang in there.

Debbie: Please, Hanru. I’ve already lost too much blood. Please just kiss me… Before I die, I just want one kiss from you. That’s all I…

(Debbie’s eyes close and her head drops. Natasha and Kaito stand in the doorway watching.)

Natasha: The love of my life was murdered by me; your love died a slow and painful death in your arms from reasons unknown to you. I wonder whose situation is worse between the two of us.

Hanru: You’re comparing whose emotion pain is worse? Now is really not the time, Natasha.

(Kaito angrily runs into the room where Shido is nailed to the coffin. He grabs Shido’s shoulders and forcefully pulls Shido off the coffin; ripping chunks of his flesh off from the nails. Shido yells a few seconds. Kaito walks into the hall and throws Shido unto the ground. Shido looks over at Hanru holding Debbie in his arms.)

Shido: How did she get out of her cage?

Hanru: You caged her?!

Shido: Of course I did, I had to keep her contained somewhere.

Kaito: Hanru, how do you want to kill him? I know you want to do it.

Hanru: We can still save her. I don’t know how, but we can. We just need blood and electricity.

Shido: I’m not going to help you with that. (Sounding a bit psychotic) I’m done helping you. I’m done helping all of you. You bottom feeders can scurry your way through these tunnels, and you’ll never find the room Debbie was in. She had the cure for your wife, Kaito. It’s a shame you’ll never see her smile again. (Chuckle)

Hanru: Shido… I forgive you…

Shido: What…?

Hanru: (Smiles and sniffs) I forgive you for everything you’ve done. You’re not just controlled by evil; you are evil. But despite your evil, I still forgive you.

Shido: Is that supposed to mean something to me?

Hanru: It means I don’t want you dead. Right now, I need to focus on saving Deborah, because I know I can still save her. That little voice in my head told me so.

Shido: (Chuckles) How cute.

(Hanru holds Debbie by the back of her knees and her head. He carries her outside of the room. He walks up to the living room if the cabin and sees police and paramedics outside.)

(Outside)

Henry: Do you really think this was a safe idea?

Ada: I’m tired of keeping secrets. It’s time for me to start being honest.

Henry: Hanru’s going to get caught in the middle of all of this.

Ada: He’ll be fine. I promise he won’t go to prison, but he will learn his lesson about getting involved in matters which don’t concern him. Hopefully now he’ll stop being such a “detective” and live a normal life like other kids his age.

(The door opens and Peter walks in the door. Hanru and Peter look into each other’s eyes with intensity.)

Peter: I promise to take good care of her, but you need to get out of here. I promise to back off you and your uncle from now on, but I don’t want to catch you doing things you aren’t supposed to. Now if I were you, I would run.

(Hanru hears police officers walking toward the living room from the hallway. Hanru puts Debbie down on the couch and quickly runs down into the basement and closes the door hidden on the floor of the living room. A cop sees the door close and pulls his gun out. Hanru quickly runs up to everyone.)

Hanru: (Panicking) Cops are everywhere. I think Ada called the police and sent them here.

Natasha: Why would she do that?!

Kaito: Where are Sandra and Daniel?

Hanru: I didn’t see your family, Kaito, but I barely got out of there myself without being caught.

(The basement door opens.)

Cop: I saw someone running down here!

(Kaito quickly closes the door and locks it.)

Natasha: The cops are down here now, how do we get out?!

Shido: (Laughs) Looks like you still need me to guide you all out of here.

Natasha: So his death is postponed once again.

Hanru: For all they know, only one person is down here. Why don’t we just leave Shido here for the police to handle?

Natasha: I can give you 10 good reasons right now why that’s the worst idea.

Officer: There’s a closed door under the stairs!

(Kaito throws Shido over his back and carries him as everyone runs down the hallway. They make a left and there’s nothing but darkness. The cops open the door. Kaito, Hanru and Natasha charge down the dark hallway.)

Officer: I hear multiple footsteps going down the hall. I am in pursuit.

Shido: One of these doors has a torch on it. That door leads to the way out. It’s on the left side.

(Natasha finds the door with the torch on it and opens it. Everyone runs inside and Natasha removes the torch. They close the door and they’re in a small square hole. Above the hole is a black-barred gate which sits under a bush in the forest. In the hole is a ladder. They all use the ladder and escape to the outside.)

(Later that night)

(Shido wakes up in a coffin. He has an air tank next to him. A note is tapped to his chest. Shido tears the note off and reads it.)

Shido: “To Shido; From Kaito: I’m guessing you know where you are by now. You have plenty of air to breath but an even greater danger lies above. If you can survive, you will be given your life back. P.S. You’ve redefined the saying “Sleeping with the fishes.”

(Kaito and Natasha are toasting and drinking wine on Kaito’s private boat on the ocean.)

Natasha: So you buried him at sea. He’s not worth any treasure I know of.

Kaito: Yeah, but his death is golden. There are at least three sharks under us right now. Once Shido gets out of the coffin, the sharks will have themselves a main course.

Natasha: You’re actually pretty cool, Kaito. It’s too bad I have to kill you.

Kaito: That is too bad.

Natasha: But hey, if you were to disappear to another country with your family, then there’d be no reason for me to come looking for you.

Kaito: (Takes a sip of wine) My family and I are gone once my wife recovers.

Natasha: That’s fair enough.

(Hanru walks to the back of the boat where the two of them are talking. He has a bottle of soda in his hand.)

Hanru: You two should just get your chili and cheese on and get it over with already.

(Everyone chuckles.)

Kaito: I’m a married man. There’s only one woman in this world for me.

Natasha: Why aren’t the two of you with your women right now? They’re in the hospital fighting for their lives and you two are just having a good ole time out on the water.

Kaito: It’s best I stay hidden right now. I still have people who want me dead.

Hanru: I have a lot of thinking to do. It’s nice to just get away from the world and its problems.

Natasha: Problems will follow you wherever you go. (Drinks wine)

Hanru: Don’t I know it.

Kaito: I think it’s time we get you back to shore.

Hanru: Yeah.

(About 2 minutes later, Kaito parks his boat on the docks. Unknown to the three of them, Shido is holding on to the side of the boat hidden.)

(Ghetto apartments)

(Jessica is walking with the hooker Tammy in the hallway of cheap ghetto apartments. Tammy is a sexy girl with tan skin and short purple hair. Jessica is nervous as she walks through the hall and sees a homeless man sleeping on the ground.)

Tammy: I know it’s a little rough at first, babe, but you’ll get used to it.

(Tammy and Jessica stop in front of a door. Tammy knocks on it three times. Loud rap music can be heard playing on the other side.)

Tammy: Listen, sweetie, I’m already in enough trouble as it is. After I bailed from your boyfriend Chris, I never checked in with my boss, so the sooner I’m done with him; the sooner we can get back to my apartment across town okay?

Doorman: (Angry) WHO IS IT?!

Tammy: It’s Tammy! (Whispers to Jessica) Maybe it’s best if you go wait in the car.

(The doorman quickly opens the door.)

Doorman: You know you in a lot of trouble, girl.

Tammy: I know, Tray, just please let me straighten things out with him.

Tray: A’ight, but she comes too.

Tammy: (Nervous) What? No, she’s not with me. We just bumped into each other in the hall!

Tray: Hey! I don’t wanna hear no excuses; she comes too.

(Tray holds a black pistol at his side.)

Tammy: (Whispers) Come on, Tray.

(Tray raises his eye brows at her.)

Tammy: (Sighs) Come inside.

Jessica: (Nervous) Okay…

(Tray goes into the hall and looks back and forth to make sure no one suspicious is around. He goes back inside and closes the door behind him. The rap music lowers. The living room of the apartment is full of people smoking weed and rolling up blunts. People are rolling up on the kitchen table as well. There is a very skinny African-American and a large African-American with shades sitting next to each other on the table. Everyone in the apartment is either Black or Mexican. Jessica and Tammy walk up to the two men sitting by the table.)

Fatman: Oh- look who came strollin’ in here like they think they don’t owe me money. Where you been, hooker?

Tammy: I’m really sorry, Joe-

Fatman: Ah-Uh, that’s Pimp-Daddy Joe. You really don’t wanna be getting my name mixed up right now. Now where you been?

Tammy: I-I’ve been out-

(Pimp-Daddy Joe slams his fist on the table.)

Skinnyman: Come on now. Don’t be banging all on my furniture and stuff! You don’t pay rent here.

Pimp-DaddyJoe: My bad, Rob, I mean no disrespect. But sometimes I feel like I’m in Mexico when I’m talking to these hoes. (Takes off shades and stares Tammy in the eyes) Cause when it comes to business, they never speak my language. And I get real frustrated, real quick when there’s a failure to communicate when doing business.

(Tammy nervously looks down in fear.)

Pimp-DaddyJoe: Look at me, Tammy.

(Tammy hesitantly looks up at him.)

Pimp-DaddyJoe: Now I’m gon ask you again: Where you been?

(Tammy reaches into her purse and pulls out a wad of 50’s and 100 dollar bills. She hands Pimp-DaddyJoe all the money. He puts his shades back on, casually grabs the money, takes the rubber band off and starts counting the money.)

PDJ: How much is this?

Tammy: (Nervous) 1600, Pimp-Daddy Joe.

PDJ: Well shoot, you short another 200. I’ll tell you what. (Tilts his shades and checks out Jessica) Business is always boomin’ when we toss some new fish out there on the street. Have your girl here out on the street working by tomorrow and I’ll consider this little vacation of yours forgotten.

Jessica: Sorry, but I’m not for sale.

PDJ: Tsk, tsk, tsk, see all that talking a’int good for business, baby.

Tammy: (To Jessica) Just don’t say anything. (To Joe) She doesn’t fit the job requirements.

PDJ: Is that so?

Tammy: She has a penis.

PDJ: I know a few brothers willing to go that route. I can get twice as much money from them then I do my average customers if I deliver them this little sweet thang.

Tammy: The truth is, she’s just an average girl okay. She’s with me right now because she needed some help with a few things. I’ve been gone the past three days because I’ve been helping her out.

PDJ: Alright, I suppose I can forgive you this one time. From this moment on I don’t care what business you got; If it a’int with me; it a’int happening. You got that?

Tammy: Yes, sir, I got that.

PDJ: Good, now be back on the street by tomorrow night; dismissed.

Tammy: Thank you, daddy.

(Tammy and Jessica leave out the front door. The two of them get into Tammy’s small white car. It remains silent and awkward a few seconds.)

Jessica: Your pimp I presume?

Tammy: (Clears throat) Just don’t worry about it; it’s not your concern.

Jessica: I think it is my concern. You’re supposed to be teaching me how to survive on my own and living the street life like you. Sooner or later, I’m going to run into him again. I need to know more about this guy and the dangers he can bring toward me.

Tammy: When it comes to being a woman, selling your own body is all you can do to survive on your own. You just be glad you don’t have a child with you.

Jessica: Do you have any children with you?

Tammy: Only if you consider yourself a child.

Jessica: We should get going now. You have a lot to teach me.

Tammy: Yeah, I do. But hey listen… Doing what I do requires a fake smile every day. Some days I just cry and I feel like giving up on everything. If you ever catch me in that depression state, just don’t worry too much about me, okay?

Jessica: Yeah, sure.

Tammy: Alright, let’s get going.

(Hospital)

(Hanru, Lee, and Dr. Nicky Zonoda are all standing over Debbie’s unconscious body.)

Hanru: Will she ever wake up?

Nicky: She’s in a coma; there’s no telling when she’ll wake up. It could be hours, days, months, years… never. I’m really sorry, Hanru.

Lee: You know, I saw this T.V. show where this girl was in a coma after being hit by a car and her husband, who was romantically involved with her mom at the time, went down on her and gave her oral until she woke out of it.

Hanru: Lee, that’s TV. I doubt it’ll really work.

Lee: Yeah it doesn’t. I’ve tried it out already.

Hanru: Wait, you tried it with Debbie?! Never mind don’t answer.

Nicky: (Smiles) You kids enjoy yourselves okay. I have some personal business to take care off.

Lee: Can that personal business include you, me and a bottle of K.Y. Jelly?

Nicky: (Laughs) Please, kid, you wouldn’t even be a warm up for me.

Lee: (Grins) We’ll never know unless we try, right…?

Nicky: (Smiles) I’m leaving the country to go live privately with Kaito and his family. I won’t be getting laid much so what the heck.

Lee: As Quagmire would say: Alri-ght!

Nicky: Wait, how old are you?

Lee: I’m 19, why?

Nicky: I’m 37.

Lee: Alright, a challenge. I love a girl with experience.

Nicky: (Sexy voice) Well I’ll be glad to teach you some things. (Leaves the room)

(Lee and Hanru smile at each other.)

Hanru: You lucky dog you.

Lee: Hey, man, I’m going to the snack bar. You say what you need to, to Debbie. (Pats Hanru on the back) And thanks for being there for me in Vegas. I feel really bad for what I did. It was wrong and it was in bad taste, even for me. But you still had my back, man. You’re a good pal to have.

Hanru; At least someone appreciates me.

Lee: I’m still not sure what I wanna do with my life, man. So I don’t know when you’ll see me again.

(Both hug.)

Lee: We’ll see each other again soon.

(The two of them stop hugging. Lee leaves the room. Hanru stares down at Debbie.)

Hanru: I’ll have a kiss waiting for you when you wake up, Debbie. That’s something to live for. It may be small, but having even a tiny purpose for living can make a big impact on who you are and will become as a person. Goodbye, Debbie.

(Lawrence and Israel’s apartment)

(Erika an Israel are sitting together in the kitchen eating brownies. There are three soft knocks at the front door.)

Police: Police, open up, Israel.

Erika: Should we answer it?

Israel: I think we should.

(Erika and Israel both walk to the door at the same time and answer it. A blonde man wearing leather pants, a white shirt, and a leather overcoat stands at the door with a blank look on his face.)

Oliver: Hello, Erika; Izzy.

Erika: Oliver?

Israel: Dad?

Oliver: Our group has gone into hiding sweetheart. We’re hidden away from society. I know you’ve been going around killing people, so you’re coming to live with us now.

Israel: Is that all you have to say after 3 years?

Oliver: Leo has decided to turn you in. The police are on their way to get you right now, so we need to move quickly.

Israel: Yeah, okay, dad.

(Oliver hugs Israel.)

Oliver: I hope that one day you’ll be the one to forgive me. Because after murdering your mother in front of you, I can’t ever forgive myself.

(Both stop hugging.)

Israel: I forgive, dad. I just need you right now.

Oliver: Go get what you need and let’s go.

Israel: Okay, dad. (Walks away)

Oliver: Erika, I did so much to you. I don’t even have to explain to you the horrible things I’ve done. I just want you to know that even though I raped you and beat you forced you to take drugs, a part of me did love you, and I always will. I’m messed up in the head, Erika, and my perception of love is different from yours.

(Erika kisses Oliver and pauses 5 seconds before moving her lips away.)

Erika: I’ve learned to forgive and forget. I forgive you, Oliver.

Oliver: Did you learn forgiveness on your own or did Isaac help you move on?

Erika: I think you know the answer to that.

Oliver: It’s a shame he had to die the way he did.

(Israel walks back into the room with a duffel bag.)

Israel: I’m ready dad. I’ve actually had this bag packed for a while now.

Oliver: You enjoy your life, Erika.

Israel: Goodbye, sister.

(Erika and Israel hug.)

Israel: You remember that promise we made when we were little girls. Don’t you ever in your life murder another human being.

Erika: I promise I won’t.

(Hanru’s home)

(Ada walks into the living to see Leo panicking and looking around the destroyed house. He stops when he sees Ada walk in.)

Leo: Ada, what happened here; I was worried sick about you.

Ada: Leo, we need to talk. Actually… I have something I need to say.

Leo: What is it?

Ada: You don’t really love me, do you, Leo?

Leo: Of course I do.

Ada: I know the truth about Hanru’s past and what you did.

Leo: Lawrence told you, didn’t he?

Ada: It wasn’t Lawrence, Leo.

Leo: (Angry) Then who was it?!

Ada: It doesn’t matter. Leo, you have a lot of skeletons in your closet and most of them come from you ordering deaths on criminals you thought didn’t deserve to live. I can forgive you for that. But there’s another reason why I feel you and I shouldn’t get married and break up.

Leo: You really want this to end?

Ada: Yes, Leo. I want to be a mother and raise kids someday. And I know you don’t want that.

Leo: I don’t, Ada.

Ada: So we should just break up now.

(Ada takes off her ring and tosses it to Leo.)

(Hospital)

(Nicky is talking to Brandy and peter in the hall.)

Nicky: So you see, I’ll be quitting my job and moving on. I’m still not sure where I’m moving to though.

Brandy: Oh no, you were like our best friend.

Nicky: I know, Brandy.

Peter: The important thing is that you’re happy, Nicky. I really hope things work out for you in the future.

Brandy: Come on, you guys, group hug!

(Janet, Holly, LJ, and Lawrence are at an airport. They sit inside of a black SUV in the runway.)

Janet: I’m really sorry I left, but I had a client, LJ.

LJ: Don’t apologize to me; apologize to your daughter. Because you weren’t there to protect her, she was kidnapped and she had to watch her father Bruce die.

Janet: I’m really sorry, Holly.

Lawrence: So we finally kill Kaito right now, huh? At least my brother will be safe from him.

LJ: We’ll all be safe. (Cocks pistol)

(LJ and Lawrence watch Kaito’s limo park beside his private jet.)

LJ: Alright. It looks like you were right about him showing up here.

Lawrence: Hanru and I talked about what happened to him recently. He and Kaito had some pretty interesting adventures in a cabin and Kaito agreed to let Hanru go free. But I know better than to believe Kaito. He’ll just wait for my brother to drop his guard then he’ll make his move. If we take him out now, my brother’s safety will be ensured.

(Over a dozen police cars come out of nowhere and completely surround the jet and the limo. Police officers get out of the car and aim their guns at the limo.)

LJ: What’s going on?

Lawrence: Ada. She must have reported Kaito location. Kaito recently went on a rampage and killed a lot of innocent people. He must have been wanted already, but the police weren’t sure where to find him.

LJ: So in the end, the police got him.

(The police drag the driver of the limo out and it’s a random man in a suit.)

LJ: It seems Kaito is smarter than your average bear.

Lawrence: So he’s safe for now.

(Police station)

(Justin and Henry are talking in the break room. Henry seems really down about something.)

Justin: It seems mighty suspicious you want to be transferred back from where you came. You can’t handle the Miami heat?

Henry: (Chuckles) You know sometimes a cop needs to ask himself “where did my life go?” I know I’m new here but I’m not a good cop.

(Justin walks up to Henry and puts his arm around Henry’s shoulder.)

Justin: A cop’s job is never easy; mentally, physically, and morally. At some point, all cops do something which goes against who they are, but you got to remember to always keep your head up and don’t fall too far from yourself.

Henry: Thanks, Justin, but what I’ve done is just unforgivable.

Justin: I don’t wanna know what it is you did. But all you have to do is forgive yourself and you’ll be all good.

Henry: Yeah, thanks.

Justin: No problem, buddy. Now how about you get me a refill on coffee?

(Both chuckle.)

(Docks)

(Kaito, Sandra, Daniel, Koroshi, Nicky, Lee and Hanru are all on the docks by Kaito’s private ship.)

Kaito: The police arrested the scapegoat at the airport. No one knows where I am.

Hanru: It was nice taking this adventure with you, Kaito.

Kaito: You as well. You’ve taught me a lot, Hanru Sazuki.

(Kaito walks up to Hanru and offers him a handshake with a smile.)

Hanru: (Grins) You know I hate handshakes.

Kaito: (Smiles) You know I never take “no” for an answer.

(Kaito drops his hand and Hanru raises his hand. Kaito raises his hand back up and the two of them shakes hands.)

Hanru: Goodbye, Kaito Zonoda.

Lee: Awe, how sweet; they’re holding hands.

(They release each other’s hands.)

Nicky: Lee, I’m glad you and I had some “alone time” together. You only live once, so why not do some crazy things.

Lee: I have nowhere to go. I have nothing here. Please, let me go with you out of the country?

Kaito: Sorry, but I can’t do it. Only people I trust are allowed to go.

Lee: I understand, Kaito.

Daniel: Dad?

Kaito: (Turns to Daniel) Yes, son?

Daniel: Well you haven’t really shown me much attention since you got me back. You haven’t even shown mom much. Do you really love us? Do you just not want us around or something? Or is it the fact that I’m bisexual but mostly gay? Is it my piercings? What is it you don’t like about me?

Kaito: Whoa, whoa; where is this coming from? Of course I love you, son. Because of Hanru, I’ve learned to accept others no matter what. But you gotta work with me, son. You gotta be patient because I never envisioned my son being… the way you are.

Daniel: Oh I see how it is.

Kaito: I love you, son. I don’t want you to ever forget that.

Daniel: Yeah, whatever. You love that Hanru kid more than you love me. Why not just start calling him son?!

Kaito: Cause you’re my son.

(Kaito walks up to his son Daniel and hugs him. He looks at Sandra.)

Kaito: You’re a part of this family too.

(Sandra joins in the family hug.)

Hanru: (Thinking) Kaito may be blinded by emotion, but I’m sure he’s not oblivious to what lies hidden inside his private boat.

Kaito: I’m going on the boat to make sure everything’s working alright.

Lawrence: KAITO!

(Lawrence quickly runs up to Kaito with a pistol in his hand.)

Kaito: Hanru’s Brother Lawrence. This is a surprise.

Lawrence: You got my text right?

Kaito: Of course. The police arrested the dummy I had setup at the airport.

Lawrence: I convinced LJ that you were my enemy. He doesn’t know that I’ve been secretly working for you.

Kaito: Alright, then, what other news you got?

Lawrence: That’s all I got for you right now. But I have decided to go away with you out of the country.

Kaito: I see.

Lawrence: Hanru… (Aggressively hugs Hanru) I love you, man.

Hanru: (Confused) I… love you too…?

Lawrence: (Stops hugging) Alright! You take good care of yourself now.

(Lawrence quickly runs on the boat.)

Hanru: My brother said goodbye to me, but it wasn’t an ordinary goodbye. He was trying to tell me something.

(Hanru watches as the ship takes off a few minutes later. Hanru stands alone on the dock waving goodbye to everyone onboard. Lawrence just stares at his brother without waving or blinking.)

Kaito: You’re not going to wave goodbye to your brother?

Lawrence: I’m having a hard time accepting the truth.

Kaito: If I had the chance to say goodbye to my brother before he died, it wouldn’t been one of the most important things to me in this world. You may not come back alive; I think you should at least give your brother a proper goodbye.

(Lawrence raises his palm at Hanru.)

Lawrence: (Says to Hanru) YOU SUCK!

Hanru: YOU SWALLOW!

(The two of them begin to laugh.)

Lawrence: (Whispers) Goodbye, brother.

Hanru: (Thinking) Will I ever see my brother again? Why am I asking myself this question?

(Apartment)

(LJ, Janet, and Holleena are talking to a landlord in his office.)

David: A kind friend of mine told me to always be honest. So I’m going to give you some honesty. I’m money hungry, so from time-to-time, I may ask you for extra rent.

(A man walks in.)

Carl: Hey, roaches have infested the place again. I’ll get to spraying the apartment next week. (Leaves)

David: And that is why our apartments are cheap, so are you interested?

LJ: As long as we have a roof over our head, we’re all good. We’re a family now and as long as we work with each other, we’re all good.

David: Right, whatever, anyway…

(Kaito is on a private island. The moon is full and he stands on beach alone. He stares at the moon and takes a deep breath. Shido stands over Kaito’s sleeping wife in bed with a knife in his hand. Shido lies down in bed next to Sandra. Sandra wakes up.)

Sandra: Hey baby; what took you so long?

Shido: Sorry, I was out killing your husband.

Sandra: You couldn’t have killed my husband because he’s in this room waiting to kill you.

(A chainsaw loudly buzzes and stabs through Shido’s pelvic from under the bed. Shido screams out in pain and the chainsaw quickly cuts through Shido’s body, cutting through hit stomach, his guts, his rib cage, his heart, and his throat. The chainsaw is pulled back under the bed and is stabbed into the back of Shido’s head and out of his face. Shido’s body twitches. The chainsaw stops and someone rolls out from under the bed. He stands up and it appears to be Lawrence. Sandra is standing on the other side of the bed.)

Sandra: Kaito told me he would be the one under the bed.

(Hanru’s home)

(Hanru walks into his home and sees Leo sitting on the couch a bit depressed.)

Leo: It’s late.

Hanru: I know. I lost track of time.

Leo: As long as you’re okay, that’s what matters.

Hanru: I know what happened to my parents.

Leo: Ada knows too. She broke things off because of it.

Hanru: I haven’t talked to my mom yet. She just woke out of her coma but she’s not ready to talk to me yet.

Leo: So what now?

Hanru: Now we continue on with our everyday lives.

Leo: Have you found a job yet?

Hanru: Lee and I are thinking about working for this Iranian guy downtown at his rug shop.

Leo: Well, It’s better than nothing.

Hanru: So it is.

Leo: I’m sorry for what I did to you when you were a baby.

Hanru: Okay. You’re forgiven. I’m going to bed now, Uncle. Goodnight.

Leo: Goodnight, Hanru.

(Hanru is lying down in his bed staring at the sealing.)

Hanru Narrating: After everything that’s happened, I’m once again stuck in the same predicament. What do I want to do with my life? Maybe I should start becoming a private detective again. But I still need a plan, and I don’t have any more backup if things go wrong. Well… Life is full of mysteries… Maybe I should… Pray on it… Pray on it…
