You're So Pretty On the Outside

In All His Glory

I woke up the next morning with a headache from hell and Oli’s colorful arms wrapped around my waist.

“Oli,” I said softly as I attempted to pry his arms off. “Oli let me go.”

He stirred a bit before opening his eyes sleepily. All of a sudden his sleepy stare turned into a glare.

“You got drunk last night,” he stated, seeming calm.

I blushed and looked away as he finally allowed me to sit up.

“Why didn’t you just call me instead? Or one of the other guys? I was worried about you, you know. For all I knew, you could have been stranded on the middle of an island.” He continued to badger me with question until he sat there breathing in and out quickly.

His cheeks were red from talking so much and he was out of breath. He had a bad case of bed head and his hair was sticking up in all directions causing me to laugh.

“What’s so funny? This is not a laughing situation!” His amount of frustration was strangely adorable and I had to cover my mouth with my hand to keep from giggling.

“Your hair,” I managed to get out. I, however, did not manage to keep from laughing.

Oli reached up and felt his hair. His expression changed from confusion to embarrassment in a matter of seconds. He rushed to the bathroom without saying another word and began to fix his hair. I turned on the bed and watched him stare into the mirror of the hotel room. I looked his up and down with my head supported by my hands. I started laughing all over again when I saw the tent.

“What’s so funny now?”

“Morning glory,” I informed him with a smirk.

He sputtered a bit and slammed the door shut. A little while later he opened the door and he was relieved of his little… problem. I giggled a little and he glared at me as he began to smooth out his hair.

“You are really too obsessed with your hair, you know that?” I laughed.

“Or maybe you just aren’t obsessed with your hair enough,” he joked.

I sighed and rolled over on the bed.

“We should leave soon. I have to make sure that Sarah knows I’m alive.”

“What exactly happened that got you so upset?” he asked as he turned off the bathroom light and came back into the room.

“It wasn’t anything really that big. Sarah was just getting in my face about being gone all day so I said that she wasn’t my mother and she said that she knew because my mom was dead. I mean, yeah it would have upset me either way but after seeing Jennifer and her friend and everything, stuff just seemed to come worse.” I sighed.

“She shouldn’t have said that though. It was insensitive.”

“I know that, but I overreacted.”

He pulled me into a sitting position before embracing me.

“Everything will work out,” he murmured. “Sarah is just worried about you right now. She’ll forgive you.”

“Okay.”

We sat there like that for a while before I decided to break the silence.

“What’s your favorite color?”

Oli looked at me strangely. “I like purple a lot. Why?”

“I just realized that I don’t really know anything about you.”

“Oh. Well that makes your question a lot more normal,” Oli said with a laugh. “What’s yours?”

“Probably blue or purple. Maybe black.” I shrugged. “Food?”

“Nachos,” he answered causing me to wrinkle my nose in distaste.

“Eww.”

“Hey, don’t be dissing my taste in food, girlfriend.”

I cracked up at his attempt to sound ghetto.

“So what’s yours then?”

“Ice cream, duh. Do you remember how happy I got that first day when we for ice cream after that restaurant?”

Oli laughed. “I thought you were just glad to have something else to eat.”

“No. I really, really love my ice cream.”

“Okay. So what’s your favorite animal?”

“Red pandas. They’re the cutest things ever.”

“I like… I like kangaroos I guess. They’re pretty cool.”

“That’s cute,” I laughed. “I should probably tell you something now that we’re talking and everything.”

“What is it, Angel?”

“I may have found a job.”

“Really? That’s great,” Oli said excitedly.

“The job is in Wales.”

His eyes lit up. “That’s even better.”

I was confused at that point.

“What do you mean? I thought you might be upset that I was going so far away.”

He just laughed at me. “Are you forgetting that the guys and I are from the UK? If you moved to Wales then it would just make everything easier.”

My mouth made an ‘O’ formation. I had forgotten that they were from there. I mentally slapped myself. With their accents it was impossible to think that they were from anywhere other than the UK. I smiled softly and stood up from the bed to begin looking for my shoes.

“What are you doing?” Oli asked.

“I said we had to leave soon, remember?”

“Oh yeah. Should I pick up the guys first and then head over?”

I nodded. “Yeah that would be good.”

“Alright then.”

Oli pulled on his pants and shoes before we walked out of the room. I checked out and then we went to our separate cars.

“See you later,” I called as I pulled out of the parking lot.

As I drove into my driveway I noticed Sarah pacing on the porch with the house phone glued to her ear. She glanced up to see me pulling in and threw the phone onto one of the chairs sitting around. She pulled me into a bear hug until I was gasping for air.

“I’m so sorry, Anna! I shouldn’t have said that,” Sarah apologized profusely.

I chuckled lightly. “Don’t worry about it. I shouldn’t have run off the way I did.”

Sarah just sighed. “I would have done the same thing. So we’re okay then?”

I nodded with a smile. “We’re okay. Oh, Oli should be here with the guys soon. I sent him to go pick them up.”

She glanced at me, a smirk adorning her face.

“What were you doing with Oli?”

“Nothing,” I answered with a blush. “He came and picked me up after I got hammered last night. Well, that’s what I think happened anyway. You know how my memory is when I’ve been drinking. I just know that when I woke up he was there in all of his… glory.

I smirked on the last word and Sarah laughed as she caught on to what happened.

Just then the guys pulled into the driveway and Sarah started laughing even harder at the sight of Oli.

“Hey, what’s so funny?” Oli asked with a pout once he was out of the car.
