Bryan Clark is soldier who has been fighting in the war in Iraq. His children, Hannah, Abby, and Brendan are left with their mother worrying every time he leaves, hoping for the best. He's been deported several times before, and always returned unharmed.
Brendan, 18, becomes the "man of the house" whenever Bryan leaves. Hannah, 16, is supposed to help their mother Melanie, and watch her litte sister Abby, who is 6.
During Bryan's last trip there, he witnessed many unbearable events, such as the death of one of his best friends. When he returns, it's as if he isn't even there.
