Someone Like That

Jake's life is going down the drain, and all he wants is to be left alone. No questions. No reasoning.

He knows what they think of him. Such a harsh boy, they murmur, so unrespectful to his elders. Any girl around him gets their self esteem pummeled by his uninterested ways.. Cute, but rebellious, and threatening. And he knows that's not what they think of his friends. Girls whisper behind their hands and sigh over them. And the sad part is that Jacob knows he can outshine them all, if he only ever smiled.

It's really okay; it really is.

Someone has to be the mean guy, and it might as well be him. Because, you see, that's been his role his whole life.

Never mind that it's getting him nowhere.
