New Step Brother, New Family, New Life? Thanks for Nothing, Dad

Chapter 37

Josie's POV

I didn't know how long Trent and I had been driving, but it had been at least fourty-five minutes. The radio was on and the sun was just beginning to set.

"Trent, where are we going?" I asked for about the tenth time.

"I told you already," he said with a chuckle, "It's a surprise." I sighed loudly and crossed my arms over my chest.

"Don't worry, you're going to love it," Trent said with the smile that I loved so much. I couldn't help but lean over and kiss him on the cheek. Trent blushed cutely, causing me to laugh.

"Fine, fine. I believe you." In about another twenty minutes, we pulled into a large parking lot of a place I had never been, but knew would be a blast.

"No way!" I exclaimed, jumping from the car and staring at the structures before me. "We're going to Six Flags? This is gonna be amazing!" I heard Trent chuckle and join me on the passenger side of the car.

"Sure is. C'mon. Let's go have some fun," he replied. We held hands and happily walked into the park.

The lines were really short so Trent and I road every ride we could. Especially the rollercoasters. The Batman, The SuperMan The All-American Scream Machine and the Cyclone. Adrenaline was kind of my thing. It ran in the family. Haha. My favorite coaster had to be the Mind Bender. It was absolutely amazing with the speed and spins and what not.

We spent most of the night at the park, walking around and holding hands and talking and eating. It had to be the most fun I had had with a guy in a long while.

But the time came when it was time to leave. It was late and the park was closing, causing us to return to Trent's car and head out.

Only we weren't driving home.

"Ok, I know I've already asked this a lot today. But where are we going?" I asked quietly, glancing at Trent from the corner of my eye. We were holding hands, so he was driving his '64 Camaro one-handed.

"It's another surprise," Trent said with a chuckle. "But don't worry. I know you'll love this one too." I sighed dramatically, causing Trent to laugh. Within a matter of minutes, we were at a small park. Trent parked, got out and came around to open my door for me.

He helped me out and smiled, then began leading me silently through the part without letting go of my hand. Trent's touch still made me shiver. Call me quirky.

The park was dimly lit by the moon until we reached the true surprise bordered by a semi-circle of moonflower bushes. My jaw dropped in awe. It was a picnic. A beautiful picnic with lit candles surrounded a checkerboard table cloth on the ground and a cooler and picnic basket sitting off to one side.

It was like something from a movie.

"Whataya think?" Trent asked, smirking at my expression. He squeezed my hand gently.

"It's... absolutely beautiful," I concluded, walking over to the table cloth and sitting down on it. Trent joined me and kissed me on the cheek.

"Perfect," he replied. Trent opened the cooler and brought out a pitcher of lemonade and two glasses. He then reached into the basket and pulled out plates of different foods and a gorgeous red rose. I couldn't help but smile as I took the rose.

"Thank you. This really is amazing," I said to him. Trent smiled his perfect smile again, causing my heart to flutter. The meal was delicious, the whole date was beyond compare to any others.

"You're welcome, my dear," Trent said with a funny British accent. I laughed and glanced around the park, searching for the seesaw; my favorite playground toy.

"C'mon! Let's go!" I said after finding the momentum-influenced seats, grabbing Trent's hand and yanking him toward them. Trent hopped up so he wouldn't tumble over and followed closely behind me.

We climbed on to our seperate sides and began rising and falling. Rising and falling. In a repeated rhythmic pattern. After a while, Trent stood up on top of his side, balancing himself with his arms. My side immediately shot up in the air, shocking me.

"Come on," he said with a smile, walking forwards on the thin board a little bit towards me. "Stand up." At first, I was afraid. But Trent's breathtaking smile gave me enough courage to pull myself to my feet and keep my balance.

We both evenly walked forward until we met in the middle on either side of the bar. We had pretty much balanced out so that the seesaw was only slightly off balance. Since Trent was of course heavier, his side stayed a little ways down so that we were at eye level.

"This is so cool," I said quietly, fearing that any loud speaking or sudden movement would throw us off balance. Trent nodded. We stared at each other for quite some time, taking in how close we were. I tried to move away, unfortunately losing balance.

Trent's arms quickly wrapped around my waist, pulling me to him so I wouldn't fall. My jaw dropped in surprise.

"S-s-sorry," I stammered, blushing. Trent smirked and tilted his head.

"Where did you think you were going?"

"What do you mean?" I countered, smirking as I played along with his game. Trent rolled his eyes and unexpectedly brought his lips to mine. This wasn't our first kiss obviously, but it was definitely a splendid one.

Losing our breath and stability, Trent and I stepped off the seesaw. He looked at me, really looked at me for a long moment in a comfortable silence. Finally, Trent spoke and nearly melted my heart:

"Have I told you lately how beautiful you are?"
