Falling for Someone Unexpected

Falling For Who? Chapter 2

I was walking home from school with my best friend Liz.
When we got to my house we said our good byes and she left.
I opened the front door and the warm heat hit my face. “I’m home,” I called to my parents.
“Blake, come here, I want you to meet someone,”
“Okay,” I sighed as I hung up my winter coat. I then walked into the dinning room.
“What’s up?” I asked as I walked in. I noticed there was a black haired boy sitting at the table. He was wearing sunglasses, dark sunglasses.
“Blake meet Zane, he’s the foster child I was telling you about. He will be staying for two weeks,” my mom explained.
“He’ll have to stay in your room,” my dad added. “We expect you to help him around school,”
“Okay?” I said grabbing an apple from off the table.
“Zane, Blake will show you to your room,”
He stood up and grabbed his small suitcase.
I walked to my room and heard his footsteps behind me.
“Here we are,” I said opening the door to my room. “You can have the bed by the window,”
He walked passed me and set his stuff down.
“Um, the last two drawls of my dresser are empty so you can use those,”
I watched him unpack his suitcase and put his clothes away.
Zane was tall, I don’t know how tall but he was tall, his jet black hair fell in his face, making him look paler. His dark glasses covered his eyes and his shirt showed off his muscular arms.
“Um, if you need me I’m in the living room,”
He nodded his head.
I’m guessing he doesn’t talk much.
I left the room quickly and joined my parents in the dinning room.
“Why didn’t you tell me he was coming?” I asked them.
“We wanted to surprise you,” my mom answered.
“That’s not a surprise. A surprise is taking me to a concert or buying me that pony I always wanted. Bring home a boy is not a surprise that’s something that you tell me. How old his he anyway?”
“He’s older than you, he just turned seventeen” my dad said.
“Lovely,” I said walking into the living room.
I watched some T.V as I finished my apple, then I got started on my homework.
“Dinner!” my mom called.
My dad walked into the dinning room. I followed him and sat down next to my mother.
“Where’s Zane?” I asked
“He’s coming,” my dad said as he picked up the mashed potatoes.
“Okay,” I said cutting the roast beef.
Just then Zane came and sat down across from me. He still had the sunglasses on.
“Are you hungry?” my mom asked.
He shook his head no.
“Okay, well, if you change your mind there’s food here,”
He nodded his head.
“So, Blake, how was school?” my dad asked.
“Okay I guess,”
The dinner table grew quite after that.
It was so weird.
Zane just sat there and watched us eat.
After dinner he disappeared in my room again.
I went to my room to get ready for bed.
I saw Zane lying on his bed reading with his sunglasses still on.
“Um, I’m going to take a shower and go to bed,”
He nodded his head.
“Do you want to take a shower too?”
He nodded his head again.
“Do you want to take it before me?”
He shook his head.
“Okay then, I’m in the shower,”
He nodded his head.
I left the room with a sigh.
I didn’t understand him. Was he mute? Did he not like me already? But yet again, why did I care?
Once I was in the bathroom I took off my clothes and got under the warm running water.
Fifteen minutes later I wrapped the towel around me and walked back to my room.
When I walked in he was still reading.
“The bathroom is down the hall,” I said.
He nodded his head.
“There should be a towel in the bathroom for you,”
He got up and walked out of the room.
I got dressed and dried my hair the best I could. I pulled it in a ponytail and crawled in bed.
I took out the book I needed to read for school and opened it.
After reading the first two pages I fell asleep.
****
There was a cold chill in the air.
I woke up a little and looked around.
I saw that the window was open and I saw Zane jump through it.
Sleep took me over again and I closed my eyes.
