Tied Down To This Bed Of Shame

Dad phoned today, he wants to take me to the zoo with his girlfriend.
She can’t have kids, she loves me; more than either of my parents.
Thinking about how mom is coming back today I accept.
Anna is beautiful, classy and elegant with bright red curls and pale skin. She’s changed my dad, but not enough for me to ever forget.

We talk about school and his job, my dad is quiet, he usually is around me. Anna buys me an elephant plushy, its soft and I pretend to be apathetic. It’s for my birthday, because she was caught up in business on my actual birthday.

This silly stuffed animal immediately becomes my prized possession.
