Two Roads at Wits End

Blackmail

It was a bleak Sunday morning. There was no trace of blue in the sky. Cold winds were very rampant and fogs are thick. Finally, the rest day for all students of the Imperial Ballet School arrived. During Sundays, most students would just laze away in their rooms reading, sewing or just chatting with their friends. The students were too tired to go out, especially those in the pre-professional level. Still, a few would go out despite the harsh weather condition just to catch a movie or so.

Anya was sitting on her dresser holding a pen and paper. Her table lamp was turned on and was angled properly in such a way writing would be more comfortable. She was about to write a letter to her parents. Hoping to see them soon and how much she misses them. Anya couldn't help but cloud her eyes with tears. Thinking of her family makes her cry all of a sudden. She wiped her eyes dry and immediately placed her pen down. Anya figured that an outing in this not so ideal weather would do the trick. Grabbing her coat and scarf, she pushed the door open and raced down the stairs into the main hall. There she found, Katya, one of her friends cheerfully chattering with her classmates. Soon she caught Anya's glance and then waved at her.

"Hey Anya! Want to go to the movies with us?" she asked.
"Sure! I was planning to going there anyway." Anya replied.
"Alright then let's go!" she said while they all went out the main door.

At the movies, Katya was waiting in line to get a ticket while Anya and their friends were standing by the entrance to the theater. Each were talking about different things while Anya stood there quietly, lost in her thoughts. Soon, Katya was rushing to them waving the tickets. They finally entered the theater and watched the movie. In the middle of the film, the person in front of Anya stood up but never sat down. The person prevented Anya from seeing the film and this made her angry.

"Hey you! What are you standing there for?!" she said while tapping at the person's back.
As the person turned around, the soda that person was holding slipped and fell on Anya's face. Now, Anya was flaming mad. Her friends just gasped beside her and were rather mad at this person's rudeness.

"Now, why did that soda slip?!" she whispered angrily at the person. Anya stood up and got out of her seat and into the aisle. She was feeling sticky because of the soda and it seemed like it stained her coat too. The person followed her out and apologized.

"I'm so sorry! Please let me help you with that." said the person, who happens to be a man.
"Ah! So finally you speak!" Anya said angrily as she stomped her way out of the theater. "Thanks to you, my hair is now all sticky and you stained my coat!"

Finally they were out in the light and Anya could see his face clearly. Anya couldn't help but gasp when she saw his face. It was one of her male classmates, Mikel. They have never gotten along throughout her years at the school. He was always so arrogant and boastful. Mikel is also at the top of her class just like Anya. In fact, they're bitter rivals.

"Ah, so if it isn't Anya your grace!" Mikel said.
"No one would be of much a jerk than you who would spill soda on an unsuspecting stranger!" Anya said.
"Oh believe me! It was an accident!" he said defensively.
"Whatever! I don't believe you!" she said furiously. "Now what do you think you'll have to do now?"
"I'm sorry, really I am. Let me wash it for you." he said.
"Why should I trust you?!"
"Well, I have your purse and if you don't let me wash that coat this purse will go bye-bye!" he said while flashing Anya's purse.
"Why you!!!!!! Give it back!"
"Uh-uh! Not unless you give me your coat...."
"Fine! Just later! You can't expect me to go out in the cold without a coat do you?"
"Agreed!" he said as he went back in.

Meanwhile, Anya was on her way to the bathroom to wash the soda off her hair. After the movie, they all headed back to the dorm. Outside the girls dorm, Anya handed her coat over to Mikel rather grudgingly.
"You better take care of it!" she said, eying him suspiciously.
"Of course I would!" he said while handing back Anya's purse.
"Well, goodnight!" Anya said angrily as she went back in the dorm with the door slammed.
