In the Arms of Forever

Chapter 6

You woke up to the smell of what you knew was Sam's cooking. You rolled over and blinked in the morning sun as it flooded your vision with light. "Good morning sleepy head." Arizon said as soon as she saw your eyes open. "What am I the last one awake?" you asked her. "Yup." she said cheerfully obviously feeling better. "I hate it when I do that why didn't you wake me." you said some what annoyed. "We thought you might want to sleep a little after yesterday’s battle." Gandalf said. "And you were up late last night." Aragorn said. "How did you know that?" you asked shrilly. "I heard you step over me to get to bed, calm down." Aragorn said offended. "Sorry I guess it's just too early for me. In case you haven't noticed I'm not a morning person." you said sarcastically. "Yeah we noticed." Legolas said speaking for the first time since you heard him sing last night. "Ms. Idril do you want some breakfast." Sam asked shyly. "Did you cook it?" you asked. "yes." he said blushing. "Well then I'd love some because between you and me, you're the only one around here who can cook." you whispered to him. He blushed and handed you a plate with cooked tomatoes and some sausage. You were starving so you quickly at it. "That was delicious, thank you Sam." you said handing him back the plate so he could pack it up. "It was nothing." He said kicking at the dirt.
It was time to head out again. Some where along the way Gandalf and Aragorn decided on the path so the fellowship plus one climbed back over the hills and started up the steep and forbidding mountains ahead. Borimier and Gimli went first and they were followed by Gandalf and Aragorn who were leading and helping the hobbits climb, so the elves brought up the rear to make sure no one fell. The first few days of climbing were peaceful and no one had any problems so it was relatively uneventful. You were about mid-way up the mountain and decided to take a rest on a rocky ledge because the hobbits were exhausted from climbing on the steep slopes. They laid out some warm wool blankets to sleep on for it was getting colder the higher they went. It was Arizon's turn on watch during the middle of the night when the moon was directly above the mountain. She wasn't particularly worried for there had been nothing to be worried about. She was trying desperately to keep her heavy lids to stay up, but as hard as she tried they managed to force themselves gently shut. She soon was startled awake by a horrible screeching she thought that it was a dream but when she looked around she saw you and Legolas with your hands over your ears, the others were still asleep, she didn't know how they could sleep through that, then she remembered that they didn't have the same sense of hearing that all the elves did. Arizon got up and stumbled towards you and Legolas with her hands on her ears, "WHAT SHOULD WE DO?" she asked screaming because the noise was so loud to their ears. "WE NEED TO WAKE UP THE OTHERS!" Legolas yelled. "No need all your yelling woke us up, why are you covering your ears and why on earth are you screaming in the middle of the night?" Aragorn asked angered that he was woken up. "Stupid elves." Gimli muttered under his breath. "WE HAVE OUR EARS COVERED WE'RE NOT DEAF." you scream at Gimli. "You sure are acting like it." Merry said. "WHAT YOU CAN'T HEAR THAT HORRIBLE NOISE." Arizon screamed. "What noise, stop talking like that." Aragorn said getting more irritated. "It's coming closer and it's getting louder." Legolas said try as hard as he could not to yell. "What that humming noise?" Frodo asked. "I Guess so?" you said on the verge of screaming. "Yeah now that you mention it, it is getting louder." Pippin said. Legolas looked out into the now heavily falling snow, "We have to get out of here NOW!" Legolas screamed running back to the fellowship. They started to climb frantically. "What is it Legolas?" you asked him since it was the three elves in the back. "I'm not sure it was like a huge storm swirling our way I have never seen one of those before but I know it's not good." he said looking grim.
"Hurry it's getting louder!" you screamed as you tried to hurry the hobbits who couldn't have been moving any slower. "Are you sure you can't hear that?" Arizon asked. "It kind of sound like some one's screaming really softly." Frodo said kind of yelling down towards you. "So it must be getting closer." Legolas said turning around again to make sure he couldn't see it with in range. The fellow ship still had about a quarter of a way to go and you knew whatever the screeching thing was it was closing in on you as they spoke. Up ahead you could barely see through the now dense barrage of snow but you could just make out a cave. "We need to get to that cave." you almost had to scream to be heard above the howling of the wind and the singing of the snow in your ears. They climbed as fast as they could the thought of shelter propelling them onward. As soon as you got to the cave Aragorn and Boramier were just coming out to say that the cave was safe and that we should get inside quickly. They all rushed inside and barricaded the entrance as best as they could under the circumstances. "I have a feeling we're going to be here a while you guys." Legolas said turning to the rest of the fellowship. They set up camp with blanket and a very small fire but a fire none the less. Despite where they were and the situation they were in they were relatively comfortable it was like a mini home to the hobbits and Gimli. They settled in and slowly one by one they all fell asleep all except the elves they couldn't get to sleep because the screeching was still audible. "So since we can't get to sleep what do you guys want to do?" Arizon asked. "How about we tell each other a little bit more about ourselves and our fighting abilities." Legolas suggested. "OK." You and Arizon chimed in together; you could tell that she liked Legolas just like you did. "Well, since it was my idea I'll go first. My name is Legolas Greenleaf, I am the heir to the throne of Mirkwood, I am engaged," at this Arizon's face changed from a look of hopefulness to disappointment, "I love archery and horse back riding, my best friend is Aragorn and I do a little bit of singing." Legolas added the last part blushing ever so slightly. "Ok my name is Idril, I live in Rivendel, my best friend is Arowen, I love archery animals and long walks in the forest, and I also do a bit of singing." you added the last part just to see Legolas' reaction even though your statement was true, He seemed a bit surprised by the fact that you could sing. "I'm Arizon, I have black hair blue eyes although you already knew that, I used to live in a small little village, my best friend is dead so my new best friend is Idril, and I miss my friends and family that I can't sing any more because it makes me happy and when I'm happy I think how can you be happy when all your friends and family are dead." at this Arizon burst into tears. "Shh Shh it's all right everything is going to be ok." Legolas said comforting her. "Sure you don't cry because your afraid of being a weak link but when she cries she's pampered." you thought to your self but the remembered that she had lost everything and thought what a horrible person you must be to be jealous of that. Legolas Took her away from the others so he wouldn't wake them while you were left to stew in your own juices. "It's ok your going to be alright." Legolas whispered comfortingly in Arizon’s ear as she quietly sobbed on his shoulder. "But I..I..Feel so bad all the time." she said gasping between each word. "I know I know it's ok." "Some times I wished I'd died instead of them." Arizon said as tears streamed down her cheeks. "Hey look at me Arizon what happened was not your fault it was Sauruman and don't you let any one tell you different." Legolas said forcing her to look at him. At this she pulled her head forward pulling him into a tearful yet passionate kiss. He put his fingers in her hair pulling her towards him before finally breaking away from his passionate moment with her. You had been watching the whole time as every second broke your heart into millions of tiny pieces. You knew you were right not to feel sorry for her and this just made you feelings of jealousy turn to loathing. As they walked back over you pretended to be asleep so you wouldn't have to talk to them. "I guess she fell asleep." Legolas said to Arizon as they each laid to either side of you neither noticing the silent tears gently rolling down you face and drenching your pillow as you cried yourself to sleep.
