Lestat's Winter's Breath

Chapter 2

You thought you heard a voice calling to you. It sounded so sad and full of longing, so much so that it broke your heart even in slumber. "Muirin," it called. "Venez à moi, mon amour, j’ai besoin de vous. Venez à moi et il ne vous fera plus de mal. S’il vous plait, venez me retrouvez, ma chère. Sauvez moi." (Translation: Come to me, my love. I need you. Come to me and you will hurt no more. Please, come find me, my dearest. Save me.) The French this voice spoke was beautiful, clear as a bell on a cold winter's day. As you lay there, in the world between sleep and consciousness, a breath caressed your cheek. The person whose breath swept across your face stroked your hair ever so gently.

'Is this a dream?" you wondered.

"Non, mon chere. It is no dream. I am here. Find me. Ask for Lestat," it whispered softly in your ear.

"Lestat," you breathed as your mind drifted further and further towards sleep.

"Sleep now. You will know where to find me," it said and all went silent. And you finally fell asleep and dreamed of a mystery man sitting by the Big Pond. This man had blond curly hair near his shoulders and wore only black. As you approached, he turned, revealing his face. You were taken aback at how handsome he was. His eyes were grey with hints of blue and violet. He smiled, revealing dazzling white teeth. His skin reflected the starlight and moonlight, making him appear an angel. As he bent his head down towards you, you were shaken violently awake by a pair of large, male hands.

"Wake up, you useless piece of trash! Now!" yelled the person such rough hands belonged to.

"Piss off, you rotten shitbox! I'm trying to sleep! Leave me alone!" you yelled through the fog of sleep.

'I'll 'piss off' when you get up, you lazy waste of flesh and bone!" yelled the voice, quickly followed by your room door slamming.

You got out of bed slowly and sighed. This was going to be another really long, really bad day. You dragged your feet to the bathroom and took a shower, got dressed and went downstairs, fully expecting your first beating of the day. Instead you found both parents sitting in front of the television watching CTVNewsWeek. You took the opportunity to race up the stairs, change into your hiking clothes and make a mad dash for the door to get your boots. You were just opening the door when your father bellowed at you to come over. You went like a shot out the door and ran as fast as you could towards the Big Pond.

You ran and ran until running so much uphill tired you out. You kept going up the path, never stopping until you heard the roar of an engine. Your face blanched and you dove off the path just in time to see a pair of ATV's ambling along the path. You saw your father riding one and one of his bruisers on the other.

"Well find her Jon. Even if it takes all night, we'll get her back," he said.

"Damn right we will. That little trollop needs to learn how to respect her parents, especially her father," replied your father.

You kept your head down until they were out of sight and the sound of the engines was out of earshot. Then you got up and took off up the path. When you finally made it, you saw the ATV's disappearing into the brush on the other side. You breathed a sigh of relief and went to the large glacial boulders at the edge of the water. What you saw then made you stop in your tracks. There, sitting on the largest boulder, was none other than ...
