‹ Prequel: Close to Nothing

More Than Anything
For Good.
“Got your ticket?” Chris asked and I nodded.
“Yep, I’ve got everything with me,” I replied.
We made our way to the airport and as I handed in my luggage I was surprised to see Rosalie come up to us. She was dressed in a stunning beige gown. I gapped at her.
“What’re you doing here? Your wedding starts in an hour!” I gasped at her and she gave me a small smile.
“Well I had to come see my wedding planner off,” she shrugged.
“Rose! Are you out of your mind?” I yelped. She was going to ruin all our planning. She grinned.
“Eleanora, the wedding we were planning was for Alice and Jasper,” she said. “Emmett and I don’t need to get remarried again.” I couldn’t believe my years.
“And the trip to Italy, the cake, the everything?” I sputtered. She shrugged.
“I needed a way to keep it a secret from her,” she explained. I frowned.
“You can’t keep anything from Alice,” I reminded her but Rosalie waved me off. I wanted to ask her so many questions but I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around.
Emmett was grinning at me.
“You ready to go? We can board now,” he said. I raised an eyebrow.
“We?” I asked him and took in the suitcase that he was holding and the backpack he had on. He didn’t answer me; Rosalie did.
“Eleanora,” she said and took my hand into hers. “I’m not stupid although it may seem like it at times. I’ve known what’s been going on between you and Emmett and I know how strongly you feel about each other. I’m not some kind of masochist, I don’t want to make Emmett or you suffer.”
I really couldn’t believe my ears. This was Rosalie talking! How could she give up Emmett so easily? And the way they acted? It’s much too hard to believe that it was all an act.
“And I want us to start over Ella,” Emmett said to me. I looked at him. He looked nervous, as though afraid of my answer. “It’ll be just us, away from everyone and everything; we could do whatever we want and no one will stop us.” I couldn’t help but smile at his words. He cupped my face in his hands.
“And the best part is we won’t have to hide,” he whispered and I melted into his kiss.

Yeah, It’s really nice to daydream.
Unfortunately, when Christopher and I arrived at the airport, there was no Rosalie or Emmett, telling me that the wedding was fake.
I couldn’t help but hope to the very end that maybe Emmett would rethink and pick me. I wanted him more than anything but of course, you don’t always get what you wish for.
I turned to face Christopher. He looked worried.
“It’s not too late for me to buy a ticket,” he reminded me and I shook my head.
“No, it’ alright, I want to be alone,” I told him with a smile. “Enjoy yourself at the wedding.”
“I can’t believe one person could make you feel like that,” he muttered and shook his head in disbelief.
I shrugged. “I’m weird like that.” Christopher hugged me closely and let go.
“Alright, enjoy yourself Eleanora,” he said and I bid him good-bye. As I was walking away I heard him call out ‘Don’t come back without a tan!’. I laughed to myself.
As I sat down in my seat, I looked out the window thoughtfully. In a few hours Rosalie would be walking down the aisle with Carlisle close at her hand. Emmett would be standing at the end, ready to take her hand and make her his wife. It didn’t matter that this was about the third time it’s happened; the magic moment will never fade when they are pronounced husband and wife.
I leaned back into my seat and closed my eyes. I know that I’m a coward; I know that maybe I should’ve fought harder for him but I didn’t have the strength. I have this habit of running away from my problems and it’ll probably never fade.
I looked out the window as the plane began to rise.
This time I’m running away for good.
