Faye Driscoll longed all her life to be loved by her parents, but it never happened. The day before her eighteenth birthday, she finds out why.
The Driscolls aren't really her parents- they've been paid all of her life to take care of her until she was of age to fulfill the destiny handed to her by the Hillards. They want her to marry their son, Nace.
Because of her pride, Faye refuses to fall for him. But then, people don't have control over these things, and she finds herself sunk. Her big dilemma becomes an inner battle between her needs and the demands made by her pride. Can she accept him and her feelings, when it means falling into the roll of pawn for the Hillards?
