I don't Laich you, I love you

one of one

I stood in the bridal suite of the resort. I had my dress on, make up done, and was waiting for the moment when I’d get to see my husband. We had been married for three years. We eloped because I was pregnant.

“I want to marry you right now. Right here, in this house,”

“But I’m fat!” I groaned. I had a few months left in my pregnancy and looked like I was about to pop.

“No you’re not, you’re pregnant. And when the baby comes we’ll be so busy that we won’t have time to get married,” he reasoned, taking my hand in his.

I sighed. “Ok, I give in. Get the judge and let’s get married. But, you better promise me that we’ll have the big wedding when baby is a little older.”

“Of course, I wouldn’t dream of keeping you from the big wedding,” he smiled, kissing me on the forehead and leading me out of the bedroom.

“Momma, you look pretty,” I heard a little voice squeak from the corner of the room.

Smiling when I saw my baby girl, I rushed over and took her in my arms. “Why thank you,
Cadence. You don’t look so bad yourself. Have you been a good girl for Nana?”
She nodded her head and bounced out of my arms. I smiled at how excited my daughter was when there was a knock on the door.

“It’s open!” I called, heading back over to the armoire to put my rings on.

The door creaked open to reveal Mike Green, my husband’s best man.

“There you are you little munchkin! I’ve been looking for you everywhere,” he said, picking Cadence up and tickling her sides until she squealed.

“Hey, Mike. Is everything ready?” I asked, turning around to face my daughter and her godfather.

“Yep, we just have to wait until everyone is seated and then we’re going to start. Are you nervous?”

“Not in the slightest. I mean, I’ve been married to him for three years. I’m just nervous that Miss Cadence is not going to sit still for the ceremony.”

“She’ll be fine. We didn’t let her nap so she should fall asleep halfway through,” he smiled as he escorted me to the doors of the church.

We parted ways and I stood and waited for the signal for the doors to open so I could walk down the aisle. My father had passed away before Cadence was born. I knew he would have loved to have been here in person, but I knew that he was here in spirit.

“Are you ready Megan? My escort and Brooks’ coach called as he stood next to me.

“Of course, just don’t let me fall on my face,” I joked, linking my arm into his.

“I wouldn’t dream of it,” he smiled as the church doors opened and we began our ascent down the aisle.

As the ceremony progressed, I couldn’t help but stare at my husband. He looked so perfect in his black suit and purple tie. Brooks was never afraid to wear color; and purple was his best.

“And by the power vested in me by the province of Saskatchewan, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!”

“I love you,” Brooks whispered before he kissed me.

We walked down the aisle as a married couple again and sat down by the lake to have a few quiet moments to ourselves.

“Was it everything you wanted to be?” Brooks asked, kicking his feet out and sitting down on the bench.

“It was everything and more. I’m glad we had an actual wedding. Sure I wish that my dad could have been here, but I wouldn’t have changed anything.”

“I’m glad that you’re happy. And that Cadence didn’t have a meltdown during the ceremony,”
He smiled, wrapping his arm over my shoulder and kissing the top of my head.

“I know. When Mike said that you guys didn’t let her nap I was kind of concerned, but she’s normally a good kid so I wouldn’t have expected any less.”

“We’ve got it made, you know?”

“How so?”

“We’re married, have a baby, we’re not in debt or needing anything. I couldn’t be happier to call you my wife and mother of my daughter.”

“You need to stop being so cute. You’re gonna make me cry,” I laughed, wiping away the tears that had already started to fall down my face.

“As long as they’re happy tears and you’re not sad or upset, I’m ok with that,” Brooks smiled, standing up and pulling me with him to walk back to the church and waiting cars.

“You want to join me in this crying?” I asked, stopping dead in my tracks.

“Why? What’s wrong?”

“We’re having another baby,” I beamed.

“Shut up! Are you serious?”

“Yep, I’m about six weeks along,” I nodded.

Brooks ran up to me, picked me up and spun me around in his arms. “I love you. I love you so much!”

“I love you too.”
