Your Faith in Me

Party With Your Pants Down

“Hello this is Kristen Scott” I answered the phone nonchalantly letting out a soft sigh, I began to examine my in need of a manicure hands, not bothering to ask how I could help the person on the other line, if they had called this number, then they were one of my clients, I sat back in my chair, swiveling in front of the computer, tapping my pen against the keyboard as I waited for them to respond.

“Hey Kris it’s Dan” I heard the familiar British accent speak to me from across the line, and I smiled sticking my feet up and placing them on my desk, the first genuine smile I had had all day. A phone call from one of my best friends was just the perfect antidote for my broken heart at the loss of another one. I could hear the smile on his voice.

“What’s poppin’ son?” I asked with a laugh as I relaxed more comfortably into my plush leather chair, unafraid of being caught, I wasn’t going to be getting in trouble for getting personal calls at work, I was at the office way past my normal hours, a bit of over time as other people would see it. More like avoidance of going back home, but I wasn’t going to be telling anyone that. I looked outside my glass window down at the bustling city life, I smiled to myself, it was always nice to see the world at work.

“Well, the three of us are flying in tonight for a little visit.” His words coming fast and loud. I sat up abruptly in my seat, running a hand through my hair nervously as I leaned my elbow on the desk. They knew. Tom had probably called them after he left my apartment, either bitching at them about me, or just telling them what had happened as he made his way to the airport back home. “He’s still there you know, rented a hotel room in that hotel down the street, he said he wanted to give you space”

“Did he tell you I slapped him” I asked with a laugh clicking my tongue on the roof of my mouth as I played with the mouse on my desk. I stared blankly at the brightly flashing computer screen, assorted pictures of me and my friends flashed on the screen in front of my eyes, one with my friends from work popped up for a few seconds, one with Dan, and then, one with Tom and I, and I turned around hating the feeling of being punched in the stomach as I looked at it.

“He also told me why, and that he deserved it.” Dan told me after a few seconds of silence as I sat there with my arms crossed, and I could hear the amusement in his tone. I smiled at my old friend who had to be the middle man between the both of us, Dan was always the middle man when Tom and I fought, it was like he was born to do it or something. “He also said that it hurt like a bitch” He added with a laugh that I couldn’t help but join in on.

“So what time are you guys flying in?” I asked as began to rummage through the stacks of mile high paper work on my desk, I had a lot of work to do, today, I had been assigned two more parties to plan, so now, I had four parties slapped on my back and a wedding to worry about. It was going to be hell if I didn’t deliver. And I began to pile them on top of each other, getting ready to stuff them in my purse and leave the office.

“Actually we’re here already. Just got into your apartment” And I heard the door clicking open as he answered my question. I let out a short laugh as I grabbed my purse off of the floor, stuffed the overly filled folders inside it and walked around my desk. It was just like them to show up whenever they wanted, thanks to the fact that I had given them each their own key to my apartment.

“See you in five” I told him letting out a huff sending a stray hair out of my face as I walked down the winding staircase. Making sure to lock the door behind me, I crossed my arms over my chest as I started walking towards my apartment three blocks away. I loved walking home, seeing everyone living their daily lives was something that I found truly adorable. But soon enough, my studio apartment building cam into view, looming over me as I walked in and started for the elevator.

The click of my heels were the only thing that I could hear as I walked out of the elevator towards my door. Letting out a sigh, I reached into my purse and rummaged for my keys. I began to get frustrated as I looked through it and couldn’t find them. I found, a pack of gum, a nail clipper, my phone, my camera, my wallet, my brush, my make up bag, my work files, and finally at the very bottom, underneath all my crap, I found them. Letting out a sigh of triumph I opened the door. Walking in, I found my three friends sitting in the living room watching tv. The three of them rushed in to greet me.

“We were wondering when you were going to get in” Dan told me with a laugh, rushing up from the couch, he walked over bombarding me with a powerful bear hug, wrapping me in his arms, I laughed as he gave me a slight noogie at the crown of my head. He smelt good, like himself, and I smiled at the familiar scent that was Dan.

“I know, we thought we were going to have to go out on a man hunt. We thought Tom had kidnapped you and taken you hostage until you became his friend again” Rupert told me with a laugh, arms crossed as he stood at the foot of the couch next to Emma who was sitting patiently on the arm of. All three of us laughed as Dan let go of me and Rupert stepped up to envelope me in the next hug. Practically strangling me one of his arms snaked around my neck as the other wove itself around my waist. I could see Emma looking at me, a look of concern, loving understanding in her gaze and she came up to me as Rupert let go.

“He’s even more messed up now you know, it seems to me like losing his best friend is affecting him way more that this break up” She told me quietly as she gave me a bone crushing hug, I openly sighed as I wrapped my arms around her in return, it what she said was true, then I was beginning to worry. If Tom had been hysterical last night, the thought of him now was scary. God knew what he was doing. Emma released me and I ran a hand through my hair as the other found itself on my waist. I looked at the three of them, all concerned as they watched me cautiously.

“Hand me my phone” I extended my hand in the air and Dan dove inside my purse placed on the coffee table, rummaging through it for a few seconds, I was about to walk over there and get it myself when he pulled it out of the depths of my hand bag. He placed it in my open hand and I ran another hand through my hair as I pressed on my speed dial and put the phone to my ear. It rang once and I heard Tom in the background. He cleared his throat and I rolled my eyes.

“Be over here in an hour, we need to talk” I said into the phone, and I didn’t wait for a response as I hung the line up. Tom deserved a second chance, and if he wanted it, he would show up. And if I knew anything, I knew that Tom would show up. Putting my phone in my back pocket, I looked at my three friends who were now staring at me with smiles on their faces, obviously pleased at the fact that I was willing to fix things with Tom. I rolled my eyes playfully, shrugging my shoulders at them and nodding my head in surrender. All four of us burst into laughter as I plopped onto the couch next to Rupert.

“So what have you guys been up to?” I asked no one in particular as I grabbed one of the pillows on the couch and pulled it to my chest. I took of my heels, moving my feet around trying to get rid of the tension that had been put into them throughout the day. I leaned back on the couch bringing my feet up to my chest as I did so looking at my three companions.

“Well nothing really, we’ll all be starting college here in the fall” Emma’s face lit up, the excitement at what she had just told me shining through her face as she looked at me with wide eyes. I knew that they had all wanted to go to college. Emma had told me that she was thinking of coming to the University here. I just couldn’t believe she had actually gone through with it.

“No way!” I yelled excitedly jerking up in my seat. All three of them nodded their heads simultaneously, huge smiles on their faces. I couldn’t help but laugh, I thought the fact that everyone from Harry Potter was moving to San Francisco was hilarious. It was like invasion of the Harry Potter Cast. Well, most of them anyways, god only knew what Tom was going to do.

“Yeah, and even more, I want you to throw a party for us” Rupert told me sitting up in his seat patting his pant legs as he did so, the smile remained on my face as I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. The three of them let out a laugh at my expression, and Dan licked his lips as he said, “Kind of like a, we’re here in San Francisco, starting our lives after Harry Potter is over, and on top of that, I want to have a big party for my twenty fourth. Which means I want the party for my birthday after the one this year”

“So you guys are like seriously moving here?” I asked laughing a bit as I relaxed into the couch. All three of them nodded again, I scratched the back of my head, to me, the thought of the three of them moving here was really funny. Kind of weird to be honest, but then again they were best friends, so I could see how that fit in to the equation. They wanted to be together. It made perfect sense.

“Yes we’re seriously moving here, we wanted to move to the states, and we miss you. It’s not fun having our other best friend living half way across the world from us. And we know that you can’t move because of your job, so we made the decision to do the moving” Rupert told me shaking his head, his fiery red hair flopping around in the air, he reached up to pat it down and I laughed as I adjusted myself on the couch.

“How much time do I have for this party?” I asked with raised eyebrows as I pulled my shirt down, Rupert scratched the back of his head, looking at the floor blankly as he tried to imagine how much time I had to put it together. I let out a sigh, laughing lightly as I played with the soft fabric of the pillow on my lap as I waited for him to respond.

“I’d say eleven months?” He told me scratching the back of his head slightly as his gaze slowly traveled up from the floor to meet mine with a humorous glint in them. I laughed knowing full well as he looked at me that he had the slightest clue at what he was talking about. Looking at his expression I could tell that Rupert didn’t even know when the date would be.

“More like a year, and a half you’re birthday’s in August dude and it‘s barely March.” I told him with a laugh. His mouth fell into the shape of an o as he calculated what I just said, apparently Rupert didn’t know how to do math. Beside me, Emma burst into a fit of laughter, along with Rupert, and the three of us looked at Rupert who was now scratching the back of his head bashfully. But after a few seconds, he joined in on the laughter, because, after all, it was pretty funny.

“Anyways, we’re also looking for apartments around here, and since you know the city better than anyone, we need you to come with us” Rupert added nodding in his seat, clapping his hands together, he began rubbing them together as he sat up leaning his elbows on his knees and bending forward. I nodded my head, of course I would help them, I loved doing things like that anyway.

“How’s work going for you?” Emma asked leaning her elbow against the top of the couch, and bringing one of her legs up, she looked at me with a smile. She loved my job, always said that she would love to work the type of profession that I did. Maybe now that she was going to the university here, I could get her a job at the office. I knew that deep down, Emma wanted to work there, no matter if she said it out loud or not.

“It’s going good. I’ve been stressing out because I have Megan Fox’s wedding, her and Austen are renewing their vows or something like that, and I really don’t want to ruin it for her. And then on top of that I have a party for Justin Bieber, he wants to go all out for his seventeenth so he‘s starting a year ahead, and then I have Eric Bana’s birthday, Katy Perry and Russel Brand are throwing a party for a charity event and they asked for me to do it for them, and to top it off I’ve got the Twilight cast wanting to throw a party to celebrate the end of the movies. Oh and then Dan’s birthday party” Just saying the list out loud made me want to curl up in a ball and stay there for hours on end. Just thinking of all the catering, and the security, and the tables, and banners, and everything else involved was enough to give me a head ache. I crossed my arms shaking my head violently trying to get the thought of my head.

“Well aren’t you going to be a busy lady. When’s the first one?” Dan asked getting up sauntering off the couch and he looked back to wink at me as he rounded the kitchen island and opened the refrigerator. Seconds later he emerged with a water bottle in his hand and walked back to the couch plopping himself back down where he had been sitting a few seconds ago. I bit back on my lip, trying to think about what he was asking.

“The weddings in six months, Bieber’s is in about a year, Eric’s is in four months, and Katy and Russell’s is in seven, and then the Twilight party is in I think in eight.” I told him uninterestedly, I let out a sigh pulling my iPhone out of my pocket to look at the time. Beside me I heard Emma sigh as she looked at Dan and Rupert, all three of them looking at me cautiously I furrowed my eyebrows, looking at the three of them in confusion. “What?”

“We’re really worried about Tom Ronnie. And It seems like you’re the only one who can get through to him” Emma whispered quietly as she became serious, her gaze filled with worry as our two companions nodded in agreement with her comment, solemn looks on each of their faces as they looked at me. Emma played absentmindedly with her hands in her lap, twisting them nervously as she bit back on her lip “He called us on the phone today, near hysteria. I swear it was so scary. We’ve never heard him like that before”

“I’m scared that he might do something drastic Ronnie. When I talked to him he sounded as if he was going to do something dangerous.” Rupert added, his face looking drained of all the color that had once filled his complexion, I bit back on my lip again, looking at the pillow on my lap as I let their words register in my mind. I knew that when Tom and I had talked he was already doing horrible, god only knew what he was like now. I bit back harder on my lip, looking up at my friends as I tried to keep the fresh stinging tears inside that were now threatening to escape from my eyes. I stared into Emma’s deep brown eyes, seeing the same unwanted tears in her own.

“He won’t open up to us, he won’t tell us why he can’t get over this, we can’t tell him the truth about Jade and their relationship Ronnie. It seems like you’re the only one who has the heart to let it all out. And we need you to do it. Like a band aide. Just rip it off all at once” Dan whispered into the palpable silence staring at the ground as he uttered each word, not meeting my eye as he pressed his elbows onto his lap, staring intently at the ground, his tone filled with worry. I grimaced at the what they were asking me to do.

“He’s going to hate me forever. I tried telling him this, I tried telling him the truth, and he turned it around and attacked me” I told them shaking my head profusely in disagreement with them, clutching the pillow to my chest as I looked at Rupert with a saddened exression. He covered his face with is hands, stroking his chin as we sat in the silence that enveloped us. And I hated the fact that I knew they were right. It had to be me.

“The thing is Ronnie, if you don’t do it. We don’t know how much longer he’s going to hold on” Rupert finally whispered into the silence, I looked up, nostrils flared as the fresh tears began to trail down my face to look at Rupert, his face drained of color, biting back on his lip, eyed wide with fear I looked around to see tears falling from every face in the room, the same expression present in all of our gazes. I slowly nodded my head, gulping hugely as the four of us connected gazes.

‘He’ll be here soon. And I think it’d be best if we weren’t here. We don’t want him to feel like he’s being attacked” Dan finally said to me scratching his nose softly as he tried to calm his overly tensed body down, sitting up in his seat as he did so, Rupert and Emma followed his actions, all of us nodding our head in agreement as I let out a huge sigh.

“We’ll be back here in a few hours, we’re just going to go out to eat, maybe catch a movie or something, just to spare some time.” Emma told me as she cleared her throat. I nodded my head, setting my feet on the cold floor as all of them got to their feet. I walked them to the door, none of us talking as they got ready to leave. Dan wrapped his arms around me, giving me a gentle squeeze as he went out, Rupert following. Emma enveloped me in her arms as she made her way to the doorway grabbing me tightly as she did so. “Good luck”

I nodded my head, attempting to smile at her as she walked towards the elevator with Rupert and Dan as I shut the door solidly. Leaning my forehead against the door, I closed my eyes preparing for what I knew was about to walk through my door in less than fifteen minutes.
