Olive and an Arrow
Lost and Confused
I’m. So. Tired. Since Aria kicked me out of her house randomly last night, I haven’t been able to fall back asleep. It’s because she’s not in my arms. I finally crashed around eight in the morning, but woke up again an hour later. I walked around my apartment in my outfit from the day before - I couldn’t be bothered to change out of it, or take care of my hygiene.
When my phone started ringing, I walked slowly over to it, hoping it was Aria with some sort of explanation for her actions. Let down, I saw that it was my mom.
“Hey Ma, I can’t talk right now. I’m kind of feeling down. I’ll call you back later today?”
“Sure thing, honey. I was just calling to see how my baby boy is. I’ll talk to you later, Johnny!” Click. The end of her phone went dead.
I walked around some more, still waiting for a call from Aria. Crouched in front of my refrigerator, I looked inside. Spoiled milk, an empty bottle of orange juice, moldy fruits and vegetables. Nothing. Time to go food shopping. I walked back to my bedroom and threw on a new outfit. I had been wearing Aria’s brother’s clothes - I should make a trip to return these clothes. Slipping on my shoes, I grabbed my car keys and walked out the door.
I was shocked when I saw her outside my apartment. When I opened the door, she looked stunned, like a deer in headlights.
“You have some explaining to do, Aria.”
“I know,” She stuttered quietly.
“Come inside,” I stepped back in my apartment and ushered her inside.
I watched her as she plopped down on my filthy couch. I sat on the coffee table in front of her.
“So what was up with last night? Did I do something wrong?”
“No, not at all. It’s just,” she paused. “I don’t know.”
“Clearly you do know, Aria. If you didn’t I wouldn’t have been kicked out in the middle of the night.”
“I’m sorry,” I heard her whisper again. Her quietness made me feel like she was afraid of something; afraid of me. Am I a monster?
“You know you can tell me anything; I’d never leave you.”
“I know, John, I know. I just don’t know if I can tell you or not.”
“Try it and see. I’m sure you can. Don’t you think I deserve a reason as to why I was kicked out at five in the morning?”
“You do. You do, John.” I watched as a tear slid slowly down her cheek. Leaning forward slightly, I wiped the tear away with my thumb, but kept my hand placed on the side of her head. I wanted so badly to kiss her.
All I see in Aria is the perfect girl that she is. Even her few flaws are perfect. She’s kind, she thinks about others first, she’s caring, she’s funny, she’s loving, the list goes on.
I need an answer as to why I was kicked out, but she’s not letting me in; she won’t open up to me. I’m lost and confused about what to do. All I want to do is be there for her at all times and to love her, but I don’t think she feels the same.
