Open Your Eyes Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The days after the dinner at Olive Garden passed quickly for Ryan. The Wildlow case had proved to be more difficult than he had anticipated and he hadn’t had any luck getting ahold of Stewart the man he usually used for tracking people down like Annalee’s extended family. Grabbing his keys of the kitchen counter he hoped today would be a more fruitful day in both of those areas.
The drive to work was short and Ryan was at his desk in a matter of minutes after parking. He grabbed the file off his desk and skimmed through it refreshing his memory before deciding what his actions should be today. The meeting he had with his mother was not useful. She of course denied all accusations but also denied a doctors examination to prove her innocence. That right there had proved her guilty in his book but he was going to take the necessary procedures to make sure she went to jail for her crimes.
The day after meeting with his mother he had put in a request for a judge ordered examination of the boy and he was expecting the answer to that today. He noted that and continued to skim his file, the boy Sawyer had blonde hair and blue eyes like his mother with a sprinkle of freckles across his nose. He had me Sawyer yesterday and questioned him unfortunately under his mother’s supervision. The boy was terrified of his mother you could feel it in the air and his demeanor. Anytime Ryan had asked a question about his mother and the accusations he would glance at his mother from the corner of his eyes before denying them. Ryan decided he would also have to request to get a psychologist’s evaluation without his mother’s supervision. With his plan of action he pushed away from his desk and stood to leave when his phone started ringing.
“Hello this is Ryan Stouge, Tannersville Police Department.”
“Yo Ryan how many messages are you going to leave on my machine man?” Stewart’s voice emitted from the other line. Today was definitely getting better.
“Stewart where have you been I need your help finding someone,” Ryan said letting his irritation at the man’s absence become noticeable in his tone.
“Vacation man, don’t you remember? I boasted about it every day before I left. Hawaiian Islands remember?” He was right Ryan sighed Stewart had been planning his vacation for months and bragged about how cool it was anytime he could get a word in. “Despite the fact you just proved to me that you don’t listen to a word I say I still love you man. So who do you need me to find for you?”
Ryan loved that Stewart was such an easy going guy it had made them good friends all the way back in high school, “I need to know if there are any living relatives for a girl named Annalee Roice.” Ryan spelled her name out for him and hung up the phone. He knew Stewart really wanted to restart his bragging tirade but he knew that Stewart would understand how busy he was. He made another mental note to call him later that night. On his way out of the office Chief Bradley intercepted him and harassed him about football before letting him go.
On another stroke of good fortune the papers he needed to authorize the doctors examination were completed and waiting for him with the courthouse receptionist. He asked for the papers to fill out for the psychologist evaluation request and filled them out quickly so he wouldn’t need to make a return trip that same day. He would probably get the authorization in a day or two so he thanked the secretary and left back for the police station.
