Something Sweet to Get You By

The day they left Chicago for Pheonix, she had been sure her life was over. There would be no more long winters, short periods of fall, and spring weather mixed in with that of summer. There would be no more color-coded-line train rides into downtown. There would be no more big city life and big city dreams. She would no longer have the ability to look around and smile in awe of the architecture and liveliness of the city's neighborhoods, only calm and empty in the early hours of the morning. She would never be able to look down a street and recall some happy past memory.
In short, Nikki had been positive that she would no longer be happy with life when she and her friends left their hometown; yet, there she sat, watching a movie with this boy, this wonderful boy, who had shown her that while Chicago had everything she could've possibly wanted or needed, it could not have provided her with him. She found love in a boring state, and his love put the color into the otherwise black and white (or rather brown and...well, brown) city.
