Spirit Dreamers

Frenemies?

Okay, lunch might have been a bunch of weirdness, but I couldn't skip out on my other classes because of that, but that didn't mean I was concentrating. I couldn't get Scott off my mind, I was worried about him. My thoughts kept pointing fingers at Nick. Did Nick do something to offend Scott in someway? Was Nick secretly the school bully and Scott was one of his victims?? How do they even know each other?

I was pulled out of thoughts when the bell rang for our next class. I gathered my things and headed out, only to be pushed down from someone who was in a hurry with a huge luggage.

“Ah!”

“Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Are you okay?!”

I looked up. She was holding a guitar case and her own bundle of work in her other arm. She had long blonde hair, that went a little past her forearm, and soft green eyes that showed very well behind her rectangle and black framed glasses. And even though she had a slender body, her oval shaped face was well proportioned around her cheeks, with a kind smile.

She put down her guitar and helped me pick up my belongings.

“Heh, I'm okay.”

I smiled in embarrassment as I cleaned my backside and retrieved my things.

“I just came out of my band class and was trying get to my next class to turn in my homework before my stupid ass teacher could chew my head off and I didn't see you, I'm sorry.”

She didn't sound like she was from around here, but she had a hint of an accent from somewhere in the south.

“It's okay, really.”

I smiled to reassure her.

“I'm Avery, by the way. My friends call me Ave for short.”

She smiled politely and offered her hand to shake.

“I'm Malean, nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too...”
Her words dropped as soon as our hands made contact. It was this odd sensation between our palms that connected inside, like a switch inside me had instantly turned on, and it seemed as though she had felt the same feeling too. We stared at each other for a split second before releasing what was suppose to be a proper handshake.

“Hey Ava!”

“Ave!”

Two girls voices had echoed from behind me.

I turned around and they were heading this way.

They were about the same age range of fifteen to sixteen. One of them had a chocolate milky skin tone, with a set of neutral full lips, and pretty dark round brown eyes, that were especially large from the amount of eyeliner and neon colored eyeshadow design she wore. And her dark brown, straightened, and teased big hair seemed to be a little over shoulder length. She wore many bracelets, a purple t-shirt with a vest over it, and neon colored skinny jeans, with Converse shoes. This girl seemed to be holding drum cases.

The other girl had neat longish and black blonde hair, that ended beneath her shoulders. Her eye make-up was perfect. She had a nice round face, green eyes, with natural pink lips. She wore a t-shirt from a band that was well known (that I hardly knew), black tight skinny jeans with holes around her knees, and a blue and black checkered hoodie. And she seemed to be carrying the same black guitar luggage Avery had.

“Oh, hey Lynn, hey Charle.”

“What's up?”

The girl with the milk chocolaty skin tone asked Avery.

Avery gave them both a long silent stare, then slowly looked at me, as though she were speaking to them secretly in her mind. The other two girls glanced at one another as Avery explained herself.

“I was just going to my next class and I bumped into Malean here by accident.”

I frowned in confusion for a mere second at the odd mention of my name.

The girl with the black and blonde hair seemed as though she were trying to hide a smile, while the other looked down, as though she felt shameful.

their eyes brightened up.

“Hi Malean, I'm Lynn.”

The girl with the black and blonde hair had finally introduced herself.

“Hi, nice to meet you.”
I had no idea what was going on, but I wasn't going to be rude by not replying.

The other girl smiled to me and gave me a half heartily intro.

“And I'm Charlennedy...but you can call me Nedy or Charle...”

I nodded in understanding while I returned the smile.

“Cool, it's nice to meet you.”

Avery broke the silence by feeling the need to inform me.

“These are my friends, they go to the same band class that I go to.”

“Oh..well that's cool. So you guys all have the same class or?”

“No, well technically, yes. But we don't have the same periods 'cause I'm a senior and they're sophomores.”

“Ohhh, okay, I see now.”

I nodded in better understanding and the halls around us were almost empty now and right when I was going to say goodbye to them, Avery stopped me by asking.

“...So Malean...your new here, aren't you?”

“...Um, yeah I actually am...but...how did you know that?”

Avery adverted her gaze as though I caught her off guard, but she answered slowly; as though it weren't the truth.

“Oh...I kinda have this photogenic memory, so I know most of the seniors at this school...but I haven't seen you here before.”

I nodded in understanding.

“Ahh, that's pretty cool. But yeah, I'm new. I just started today.”

“Cool...you liking the school so far?”

I nodded and smiled.

“Yeah, I am. I mean, it's not what I'm really use to, but I've met some cool people so far. Heh, like you guys.”

They smiled and awed, enjoying my compliment, then gasped when they realized the time.

Lynn freaked out and began walking away with Charlennedy.

“Oh my god! Were late Charle, we gotta go!”

Lynn looked towards me as she gave a little wave and added.

“It was cool to fin- it was nice meeting you, Malean.”

She tripped over her words as though she meant to say something else.

I slightly waved back and smiled.

“You too.”

“Oh, right! Okay, we'll see you later Avery...text us to let us know what's up.”

Charlennedy said as she glanced between me and Avery.

“Oh shit, your right. Okay guys, bye.”

Avery said with urgency, barely realizing how late and in trouble she was getting herself into, and even more in trouble when a school monitor called out to us.

“Hey! You guys are suppose to be in class. Do you have any hall passes?”

“Uhhh...”

My lame answer was for almost anything I didn't know how to answer, but thankfully, Avery quickly saved the both of us by making up an excuse.

“No sorry, we don't, but she's really new here and she stopped to ask for some directions 'cause she got lost.”

The school monitor obviously bought it.

“...Okay, well hurry and get to your classes then.”

“Thank you.”

Avery gave him a polite smile and hurried me out of the school monitor's sight before he could say anything else.

We laughed together as we aimlessly walked through an empty hall.

“Good excuse.”

I was easily impressed when it came to making up fake excuses. Showed me I wasn't the only one who had that talent.

“Thanks, haha. But now you totally owe me.”

I laughed.

“Okay, what do you need?”

We walked to her next class while she texted like a maniac and decided to exchange numbers with me. She quickly put away her cell when we entered the room.

“Well, it's about time you showed up, miss Putnam.”

“Sorry I'm late, but I have a good reason.”

“Alright then, lets here it to see if it's excusable or not. And who is this?”

“She's part of my excuse. I was actually rushing to get here to turn in my credit, but I bumped into her on my way here and I couldn't leave her to fend for herself. This is her first day of school, so she got lost trying to find her next class. And I brought her here to turn in my work and to get her a hall pass too.”

Her teacher stayed silent. I guess he wanted some way to punish her, but her reason of being late was very excusable, and he made that clear when he spoke up.

“Fine; you're excused and I'll write you up a hall pass so you'll be on your way.”

I thanked him.

“Thank you, sir.”

I finally made it to my next class with so much time that had been killed. Normally I'd be happy about that, but I was actually looking forward to photo club. After I gave my teacher my slip, I took my seat, just to realize that Victor was sitting right beside me.

“Oh, hey Victor.”

“Hey. I didn't know you had this class.”

I chuckled.

“Yeah, and I didn't know you had this class either, heh.”

“Pretty cool.”

“Haha, yup...does Scott have this class too?”

I couldn't help but ask since they're best friends, he'd be able to give me some info on Scott...who was still obviously on my mind with all this weirdness going on.

“No, he doesn't have this class.”
“Oh..okay...”

I was a little disappointed, but I wasn't about to admit that or push Victor for more info. I mean, I did just meet him today...didn't want Victor to start assuming that I'm stalking Scott.

After class ended, I couldn't take the suspense anymore, so I caught up with Victor who was in a rush to his next class.

“Hey Victor!”

He paused and turned my way and as soon as I caught up to him, I finally asked him what's been bothering me ever since lunch.

“Yeah?”

Victor asked, waiting as I collected my thoughts.

“Hey....do you know if anything's bothering Scott...?

Victor slightly frowned in confusion.

“What do you mean?...Did something happen at lunch?”

His confusion instantly faded when he asked his last question. His eyes waiting and searching for my answer.

My gaze held his, wondering how he would of figured that out when he never stayed for the entire lunch period.

“...Uh.”

My forehead creased for a mere second before I continued.

“...Yeah...but...did he tell you or something?”

He shook his head in response.

“No, he hasn't said anything to me since lunch...I tried texting him, but he still hasn't replied...I assumed it was 'cause he's busy with his work like usual, but...what happened?”

I shook my head, having a hard time beginning since it was all such an odd situation.

“I don't know...um, a friend of mine came up to me...and it seemed like they knew each other...but it didn't exactly feel like a nice reunion...and all of a sudden, Scott just got up and left...without even saying a word.”

“...And what's this guys name?”

Was all Victor seemed to find importance in my little story.

“Nick” I nodded, but then added “Well, his nick names Nick, but his full names Nick1oai.”

Victor's gaze fell from the mention of Nick's name and I couldn't help but feel that Nick really did do something now.

“...What?...Did he hurt Scott or something??”

Victor looked as though he wore about to shake his head to answer me, but paused instead, while his sad mood had turned into a cautious and defensive one.

“...Look; Malean...I don't know what your relationship is with Nick...but if your going to be Scott's friend, then you really should stop hanging out with Nick...”

I frowned deeply, now I was really confused.

“...Why..what did he do to Scott??”

“Just try to believe me...otherwise, stop hanging out with Scott...”

I stood there, my jaw hanging in shock as Victor walked away without another word.
