Growing Up

Snip

“Ow,” Liss awoke to a sharp sensation in her lower abdomen. “Ow,” She groaned once again as Zacky snored beside her. Glancing at the nightstand, she read the big red numbers 7:54. Her appointment to the hospital was not until nine that morning. She concluded that she still had time, since her contractions were far apart and her water had not broken yet. Lifting herself out of bed, she showered and get dressed, taking her time applying make-up.

“Baker…” Liss whispered coming to the bedside where her husband lay sleeping. “Baby?”

“Hmm…” Zacky mumbled into the pillow burying himself further into the sheets.

“Come on, get up,” Liss said pushing Zacky’s tattooed arm, “I'm having contractions.”

“Kay, give me a minuet.” Zacky mumbled closing his eyes again making Liss roll her eyes.

“Momma!” Laila’s loud screech resounded through the walls of the Baker’s large home.

“What is it honey?” Liss asked walking into the hall to find her daughter clad in her Princess Jasmine pj’s reaching up for her. “Lai, you’re a big girl I cant pick you up.”

“Can you make breakfast?” Laila asked with her large doe eyes.

“Pancakes? Or French toast?” Liss asked as she waddled into the kitchen. Taking out the pan she needed she pulled out her MacBook from the living room, starting it up. Logging on, she checked her email, and sent her employees a quick letter of the upcoming fashion show in Manhattan. “Lai? Pancakes or French toast?” Liss shouted up the stairway.

‘Toasties please, Momma,” Laila said taking a seat at the barstool in the kitchen. “Is baby coming today?”

“Yes, baby is most definitely coming home today,” Liss said as another contraction hit her, “Ow.” After making Laila French toast, Liss called her mother asking her to come over to watch Laila, while she and Zacky headed to the hospital. “Baker?!” Liss yelled from the kitchen making Laila giggle.

“I'm up,” Zacky stated waltzing into the kitchen in his boxers. “What’s going on?” He asked dropping a kiss on his daughter’s head stealing a bite of her French toast as well, making her scowl at him.

“As much as I appreciate the view, could you go get dressed?” Liss asked letting out a deep sigh, “Mom’s gonna be here any second, and we have to go to the hospital.” Zacky nodded kissing her lips briefly before heading upstairs. Liss’ phone rang on the kitchen counter, and she recognized the rap song as Leyna’s.

“Sup?” Liss asked answering the phone.

“What’s poppin’?” Leyna laughed.

“Me, well soon, anyway.” Liss scoffed, “I'm ready to blow.”

“Contractions?”

“The worst.”

“Why aren’t you at the hospital?!” Leyna exclaimed while Liss helped Laila off the stool and followed her to help her get dressed.

“We’re leaving soon,” Liss explained, “I just had to get dressed and make breakfast, check my email.”

“You’re giving birth! Its not a fashion show, you don’t have all the time in the world to get pretty!” Leyna chuckled.

“Actually, during fashion shows, I'm on a much tighter schedule,” Liss said as she slipped a pink dress over Laila’s head.

“You would do this the day you are about to give birth,” Leyna sighed.

“What can I say?” Liss laughed running her hands through her daughters messy brown curls.

“Alright, well I'm gonna get to the hospital in a few hours to visit, make sure Zacky calls when baby gets there, kay?”

“Kay, see you then.” Liss smiled as Laila ran off to play.

“Good luck!” Leyna added before hanging up. A few minuets later the doorbell rang and Liss’ mother came over to watch Laila while Zacky and Liss headed off to the hospital.

“I’ll see you soon baby girl, Grandma and Grandpa will take you to the hospital so you can see baby boy okay?” Liss asked her daugheter as she placed a kiss on her soft cheek. Laila nodded as her father kissed her aswell before waving to them while they loaded the car.

“Did you get my Louis bag?” Liss asked surveying the trunk of Zacky’s Escalade. Zacky shook his head in the negative.

“Where is it?” He asked yawning.

“Baker!” Liss screeched, “I'm about to give birth! And you didn’t even grab the most important bag?”

Zacky rolled his eyes and headed back into the house in search of Liss’ make-up and accessories bag. With a huff, Liss sat in the passenger seat waiting for her husband. After exactly fifteen agonizing seconds, she began to furiously honk the horn.

“I'm coming!” Zacky yelled walking outside, Louis Vuitton in hand.

“Alright Liss, one more push!” The doctor pleaded as Liss screamed her lungs out while squeezing Zacky’s hand until it turned completely white. The whole hospital room erupted in applause as Logan James finally arrived. A chorus of nurses began a lively chant of happy birthday as the baby was wrapped up and handed to his mother. Liss heaved a big sigh kissing her son, and streams of tears fell down her cheeks.

“Hi pretty baby,” Liss cooed as Logan’s brown eyes looked up at her. “I love you so much.”

Zacky pulled his wife’s face to his, fusing their lips together, as a silent thank you for giving him a son. Taking the child into his arms, Zacky’s heart almost busted open with pure pride and joy.

“Baker…” Liss whispered watching her husband hold her son, exhaustion pulling her into a sleep.

“Yeah babe?” Zacky asked glancing at her.

“That’s the last one…” She whispered her eyelids growing heavy, “No more.”

“At all?”

“Nope, you need to uh…” She lifted her hand making a scissor motion with her fingers. “Snip snip”

“Hell. No.” Zacky exclaimed quietly.

“Fine, but if you don’t you aint getting any,” Liss said immediately falling asleep.

A few hours later the entire gang showed up to visit the new edition to the Baker family, including Zacky’s parents and Liss’ as well. The rest of the day was filled with happiness and celebration for a new life. What they weren’t expecting was the drama that was to unfold, following Logan’s birth.
