More of These Days

I've been out walking, I don't do too much talking these days

"I don't see what the problem was with the last one," Geno said, glancing over at Violet as he drove them toward their 7th OBGYN appointment of the day.

"He pushed his penis against my knee! He's a creep. I'd much rather go to Dr. Sharma."

"The Indian lady? Oh yeah, so I can even more confused my the Indian accent than I already do with people speaking plain English." Geno snorted.

"Hey, you don't have to understand her! I can just translate it into Russian for you."

"It doesn't matter. This is the last doctor today. Hopefully number seven is the charm." Geno grunted. Violet shrugged noncommittally and they drove on to the last doctor's office, that of Dr. Naclario.

Geno pulled into the parking lot and quickly got out so that he could open the door for his girlfriend. Violet rolled her eyes at him but he saw a little blush creep up her clavicles and he smiled to himself, knowing he still had the power to make her blush, outside the bedroom of course.

The wait in the room was a quick one and they were escorted into the doctor's personal office where Violet gasped loudly upon seeing the doctor.

"Erica Magnotta? No way!"

"Violet Walsh! Holy shit!" The doctor dropped her professional demeanor and grabbed Violet in a giant. hug. Geno took a step back and raised both eyebrows.

"I have not seen you since that party sophomore year of college at Zoe's!"

"Haha, that was the night you brought Henry home and Mark was five seconds way from beating him to a pulp!"

"That was the night you let Dillon Hanaburgh eat your face. Or should I say Dillon Fatoburgh?"

"Violet!"

"Oh come on, you know you loved it. You loved it as much as the drunk version of myself loved laughing at Henry trying to intimidate Mark.."

"Don't tell my husband that!" Erica grinned and held out her left hand displaying a diamond ring on it. "Joey Naclario and I. Who would have thought it? I mean, we always wished it but..." Erica trailed off as VIolet gushed.

"Well, I guess I get to meet your husband now," Dr. Naclario laughed holding her hand out to Geno.

"Evgeni Malkin," He said tentatively. "And Violet and I...we not married."

"Oh well...one day soon then I hope?" Erica asked and turned away from him to face Violet. "I mean, we wouldn't want this little thing to be without a proper family would we?" She laughed and smiled at Violet's tummy. Violet smiled and shot a nervous glance at Evgeni. He was pacing a little.

"Well shall we discuss?" Dr. Naclario said, gesturing to the chairs in front of the desk. Violet glanced at her boyfriend nervously looking out of the window.

"I don't think we need to...I would love for you to be my doctor!" Violet said happily, embracing the woman. Ten minutes later Dr. Naclario was the official OBGYN and Violet had a checkup for the next week. Geno was still quiet.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?" Violet asked, glancing at his tight grip on the steering wheel.

"It's nothing, really. I...I just...do you want us to get married Violet?" Geno said, coming to a stop on the side of the road and peering at Violet under his eyelashes. "Do you think we should?"

"I'm not really sure. It was never a big deal to me...I didn't think we needed to get married to raise this baby...we should get married because we want to get married...not because people tell us it's the right thing to do..." Violet said slowly trailing off. They gazed into each others eyes for a few moments.

"Why don't we think it over and then decide?" Evgeni suggested. Violet nodded and smiled.

"Sure. Can we go to the store on the way home?" She asked. Geno nodded and raised his eyebrows as if to ask why. "I'm all out of Kraft Mac."
