I Woke up Next to Lukas Podolski and Holy Crap We're Married

Into the Lion's Den

*Reyna POV*
I pick up my matching green purse from the counter and Lukas grabs his black jacket as we walk out of the house. We get into the car, me with some difficulty and a lot of laughing from Lukas. We spent the first few minutes in silence, just listing to Lukas’ techno music blast through the car. “What is this party for exactly?” I ask turning to face Lukas, making sure not to glance at the speedometer because he was probably going way too fast and if I looked, I knew I would freak out. “It’s UEFA’s party to end the Euro cup. We have all the international teams there and we just eat, talk and dance all night,” he replied meeting my eyes and causing me to grab the edge of my seat. “Stop doing that,” I hiss as Lukas bursts out laughing. “Relax Reyna, I won’t kill you. Trust me,” he said looking at the road. “How can I trust your maniac driving!” I retort. “Anyway, are there going to be many paparazzi?” “Yeah, there are going to be an insane amount of them. When you have all the big football stars and their women, there’s bound to be some drama.” Damn it, I thought. I could still remember the scene in front of the hotel today and wasn’t very happy to have to give a second performance. “Don’t worry,” Lukas said as he exited off the highway into the city of Munich. “All you have to do is stay close to me, we’ll take a few pictures and answer a few questions and then go inside, where the media people aren’t allowed.” Easy for you to say, I think, you’re not the one wearing high heels that could make you topple over at any second.
My heart started to pound as we pulled a few feet from a fancy hotel’s front entrance and saw the number of people there. I could see the flashes of cameras going off and the area the hotel security had cleared for the celebrities to walk down and be in the public eye. Lukas stopped the car but left the keys in the ignition because a man would park his car. He then got out of the car and moved to my side. God help me, were my last thoughts before the door opened.

*Lukas POV*

I held out my hand and helped Reyna out of the car, noticing how she trembled. I ignored the roar of the crowd as they realized we had arrived and wrapped my arm around her small waist. I move Reyna forward into the lion’s den.

*Reyna POV*

I tried really hard not to trip. And not to fall. And to look pretty. Smile to the camera. Watch the long dress. Don’t faint at Lukas’ touch.

Basically, I had a million things buzzing through my head and I thought I was going to freak out and run all the way back to Lukas’ house and curl up under the covers. The one reason that kept me from doing so was Lukas’ strong arm around me, guiding me through this awful experience. The cameras were shoved into our faces and all the paparazzi were falling over each other in an attempt to get me and Lukas’ attention. A few times Lukas stopped an answered back in German but I didn’t understand a thing. Why the hell did I take French in high school? I thought. Lot of good its done me.

“Are you okay?” Lukas said startling me at his closeness. I smiled and said, “I’m fine.” “Only a few more minutes and then we’ll go inside,” he said and brushed his fingertips over my cheeks for the benefit of our audience. Despite myself, I shivered in delight and swayed on my feet. We moved a bit closer to the door and then the whole crowd started to chant, “küssen sie sie.” I felt Lukas tense a bit beside me so whispered, “What are they saying?” He looked down at me and didn’t answer.

Instead, he tipped my head back and brought his lips to mine. His lips were warm and soft and unlike last time, it was a real kiss. His tongue drew circles on my lips and when I moaned, it plunged inside to explore my mouth. I melted into his arms while the rest of the world faded away. When he lifted his head he brought his oh-so-talented mouth to my ear, “Kiss her.” Still shocked he steered me at last into the ballroom and away from the whistling fans, who turned their attentions to the next unlucky victims.

*Lukas POV*

Glad to be away from the craziness of the media world, I strolled into the ballroom and went towards my teammates. I had released Reyna’s waist, instead I was now holding her elegant hand. I talk for some time with my friends making sure to include Reyna. All of them were extremely curious on how we had met. Getting more awkward by the minute, I excused us and we headed to our table. Reyna sank gratefully into a chair I pulled out for her and took a bread roll from a basket on the table. Everyone was starting to get seated because the food was about to come out.

“My feet are killing me,” she said as she nibbled the edges. “Hey Lukas,” called a voice. I turned and spotted Bastian and his girlfriend Sarah. “Figures you would be the last to show,” I said grinning.. Bastian tried to aim a slap at my head but I ducked just in time. “Shut up man,” he said playfully. “Did you have much trouble out there?” “I’ll tell you about it later,” I said.

*Reyna POV*

Having not understood much of what was being said between Lukas and Bastian, I was glad when the beautiful blond woman beside Bastian smiled and said in English, “You two are so rude. Let me introduce myself, I‘m Sarah.” “It’s nice to met you,” I said. Right a way I knew we would be good friends. She knew of course my strange fake but not so fake marriage to Lukas and said she was there to help if I needed it. Throughout the rest of the diner we talking about random things and found we had much in common.

Lukas sat beside me and talked to his Germany team members but kept his arm on the back of my chair the whole time and pressed his powerful leg against mine. When the speeches started, everyone fell quiet and Lukas began to twirl my hair around his finger, gentlely tucking at my skull and making me want to lean my head back in pleasure. I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t hear a word the man said and before I knew it, different couples were heading to the dance floor. “Dance with me,” said Lukas as he pulled me up. “No! Lukas I can’t dance,” I whisper furiously as I try to free myself from his grip. Turning back with a grin he replied, “Yes you do. You danced with me last night.”

*Lukas POV*

Stunned she gave in some ground before she pulled and said, “But I was drunk!” I grinned and tried not to laugh, “Relax, have fun.” We were inches from the dance floor when I spotted her. Monika’s blond hair was in a bun and she was wearing a very tight and revealing red dress. When she spotted me, her eyes lid up and she changed her direction to make her way towards me. I groaned, making Reyna ask, “What’s wrong?” “It’s my ex. She won’t accept that it’s over and keeps trying to get me to come back,” I admit. Her violet eyes studied me, “And do you want to go back?” “Hell no,” I exclaim, Monika was getting closer.

With a determined look on her face, Reyna pulled me into a corner and lowered my head. She kissed me deeply and ran her fingers through my hair. Damn, she was a good kisser! I tried to remember that we were only doing this to make Monika leave but gave up. I pushed Reyna gentle against the wall and placing my hands on either side of her head, teased her lips with my tongue until she opened them. After a few more seconds, she broke the kiss and looked past my shoulder, “She looks pissed and is heading away from us.” Her voice sounded like she had run a mile and her lips were still swollen from our kiss. “I guess that I’m know going to have to do you a favor and not insist that we dance,” I said looking down at her. Reyna smiled brightly, “That’s right.”

“Let’s go then. I have practice early tomorrow and you have work, we need some sleep.” Agreeing we say goodbye and walk outside. I saw her shiver out of the corner of my eye, “Here take this.” I took off my jacket and slipped it over her small form. “Thank you,” she said gratefully as she slipped it on. Most of the paparazzi was gone but there were a few stragglers that snapped a few more pictures as we walked by. Gathering my keys from the man, I gave him a tip and opened Reyna’s door. Once inside, I moved to the drivers side and slipped in. I drove in silence for the first five minutes, occasionally sneaking peeks at the woman beside me. I swore once she was smelling my coat, which made me smile in happiness. “So, are you gonna tell me about that girl?” Reyna said, breaking the quiet. “Monika?” I said surprised. “Yeah,” she replied in a cold voice and a strange expression on her face. “Not much to tell. We dated for six months and I found a woman that I knew I couldn’t spend the rest of my life with and broke up,” I tell her pulling into the driveway and turning off the ignition. “She wants to try again but I know it wouldn’t work.” “Why?” “Because we are two total different people who want different things. I want a family, she wants to travel. She hates soccer, I love it. There were too many complications that I didn’t even feel were worth it,” I explain, opened the front door and entering the dark house. Switching on the light, we head upstairs. When we reached Reyna’s room I turn and give her a small kiss on the cheek, “Gute Nacht, Reyna.” (Translation: Goodnight, Reyna.)

*Reyna POV*

I watch Lukas walk away and then enter my little room. Taking off my shoes I sat on the bed and massaged my aching feet, when I realized that I still had Lukas’ jacket. I slipped it off an laid it on the bed. Moving to the dresser, I took out my pajama and striped off the dress and hung it on the hanger. Slipping on my comfortable shirt and short, I get into bed and snuggling against Lukas’ jacket, fall asleep.

Just so you know all the soccer matches aren’t real. Yes, I am aware that Euro was won by Spain and not Germany and that it was hosted in Switzerland/Austria, just play along.
