She Was Fading

DCaroline1006xk4

Caroline’s parents, Michael, Crow, Roon, Ellie and the kids, Stella and I all cram into the small room for Caroline’s birthday.

There is no cake and there isn’t that many presents but its nice and Caroline loves it.
It’s late and most everyone has gone home and her parents go back to work. I stay and we talk. I show Caroline what her present is and she loves it.

I tell her I bought her a star and show her a diagram. It’s a tiny star in a cluster and it’s not the brightest in the bunch, but it’s not the dullest. Like turquoise.

Its name is DCaroline1006xk4 and she begins to cry. She asks me why I did it and I tell her “love.”
