Dawn has to leave her friends and foster mother behind in Canada to go to New Jersey, in the United States, alone. She meets up with the family and is immediately sucked into their loving companionship. Dawn makes friends with almost everyone that she meets, and is accepted better than most people who grew up in the state have been. Dawn thinks that her life has finally changed for the better, until she finds out how much she has missed while gone away. Dawn is then faced with a situation that no one should be forced into. The school that she attends while in New Jersey has fallen into the hands of a school shooting, and to make it worse, Dawn knows the shooter. She takes matters into her own hands and tries to protect the people she has grown to love.
