I Liked it Better When They Were Young

First day back! (Gawd!)

A Green Day Story
Monday 23rd August 6:45am
I was woken by some loud, funky dance crap on the radio alarm. I'd hit the snooze button, but it takes so long to shut the damned thing off there's really not much point. God I hate the first day of school and the many days that follow after it.

7:00am
Hmm. Dad's usually shouted up the stairs to get me up by now. Something strange is at work here....

7:03am
"Sophie! That's seven o'clock! Just so you know...." Ha! "Just so you know" eh? Loosly translated, "just so you know" means "Get up you lasy asshole!" God I hate my life.

7:24am
Had a very satisfying breakfast of cereal. Am now brushing my teeth.

7:46am
Have changed into my cat hoodie (it has ears on the hood), black trousers and my best pair of vans. Now to my hair....

8:18am
Yes, it takes me ages to do my hair. It's just past my shoulders and a dark red colour. It's wavy, but I don't wear it wavy, I mess it up a bit. Quite a lot actually. I put wax in it so it looks longer and more punkish. My mom hates it, and she lets me know it too. But who wants an image your parents like?

8:19am
Now to make up....

8:32am
Make up's a hell of a lot easier. Black mascara, black eyeliner (in feline flicks to match my cat hood) and powder.

8:45am
On the bus talking to Megan. Renee, Frazer, Elliot and Megan are my best friends at school, even though I only see them on the bus. Renee is like a ladies man. Frazer is just a lovable goon. Elliot's smart and kinda quiet and Megan's a rebel. Quite a contradiction, huh?

"I like your new hair." Megan said, munching on a danish pastry.

"Oh thanks. I discovered the magic of product." She laughed. "Nobody else does." I continued.

"Since when do you care about everyone else?"

"I don't. I was just saying, y'know..." I found myself eyeing the danish pastry. God, I was so hungry! Cereal is not nearly enough for a growing emo.

"Can I have a bit of that?"

"Huh? Oh yeah, sure." When you want something from Megan, it's best to be honest.

8:55am
In the school grounds. Am AMAZED at how many chavs there are this year. They must have multiplied during the holidays. I saw my friend Katherine, or Kitti as she nicknamed herself, waving me over.

"Hey! Peaches!" Peaches is my nickname. It's when I smile. My cheeks go all round and soft. Like a peach. Katherine isn't a chav, but lately she's been hanging about with a bunch of them at The Hood. I ask you. What a pathetic bunch. I sort of half smiled at her and sauntered over. The word hello was barely out of my mouth when...

"Kat! Are you coming Kat? I have sooooo much to tell you about my summer!" Rebecca. Manipulate bitch extrordinare. Wherever she goes, Katherine follows. Because Rebecca drags her away and launches into a conversation about her, her, her. Katherine gave me a guilty smile and went off with Becca. Don't even feel sorry for me. It's happened so many times it feels normal now. Shit. The bell's gone. Now there's no going back. Say hello to another crappy new yeat at Pinole Valley High.

9:03am
In room 301. We've got Mr Beck as our Reggie teacher, a tall, grey haired guy with a grey personalitly. He may as well be dead. I picked a seat at the back near the window, as far away from everyone as possible. I got my stuff out and threw my bag to the floor. It made an almighty clatter. Mr Beck looked very irritated, but he doesn't have the balls to say anything.

"Hey Peaches. You're looking good this year." I turned to my right to see Frank, or Tre Cool as he likes to be called, looking down at me, smirking. Pervert. I'd floor him in a heartbeat, but I'm too depressed. I just shrugged and turned my attention elsewhere. Just then, the door opened and Mrs Mowatt, the headmistress, came in with a black haired boy wearing black trousers, black eyeliner, black leather jacket, the lot. But his eyes, his eyes were a deep green that shone and sparkled at you. I froze in my seat. I know I must of looked stupid, just staring at this kid, but everyone else was, so I wasn't the only one.

"Everyone, this is Billie Joe, he'll be joining us at Pinhole Valley High." Said Mrs Mowatt. Billie Joe raised his eyebrows up and down really quickly. Some people laughed.

"Now, why don't you find yourself a seat Billie and I'll leave you to it Mrs Beck." She smiled kindly at Billie Joe (you know, the kind of "I know it seems big and scary but you'll be fine") and left. Billie's green eyes darted across the room briefly before resting on me. I just about died. Billie Joe looked me up and down, then he walked over to my desk and sat on the empty chair next to me. Tre looked livid. Mr Beck then started giving us the First Day Back pep talk. Billie Joe leaned towards me. I thought, for one crazy second, that he was going to kiss me....

"Hi." He whispered. He was so sexy when he whispered! "I'm Billie Joe, I just started here. I'm totally lost, could you maybe show me 'round?" Oh. My. God.

"Yeah, sure." I said, trying not to scream. "What classes are you in?" Billie Joe pulled a folded up timetable out of his trouser pocket, unfolded it and smoothed it out. I studied it.

"These are pretty much all my classes, so just follow your leader!" He laughed. He laughed at my joke! "I won't get you lost." I added. Billie Joe looked pleased.

"Thanks. I don't wanna look stupid." He looked at me with those amazing eyes. He really did have the most amazing eyes. They were so deep and meaningful, but somehow still managed to be vivid and full of life. He then reached out and studied my necklace with his fingers. It's a jeweled choker with red and black stones.

"It's pretty." He said, looking at the necklace and then at me. "You're pretty." I tried to think of a response. Was he flirting with me, or had he just been smoking dope? I just went, "Nggh." Then the bell rang and me and Billie Joe, along with the rest of the class filled out into the hallway. Tre gave Billie a very dirty look as we passed.
