Halfway There

Chapter Twenty-Two: Emma's POV

I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of boat’s motor. I jerk awake immediately, shaking Carl from beside me. Carl’s being paranoid and thinks that I might try to kill myself if he’s not around.

“Humph.” He grunts, sitting his head slowly up tiredly, fighting to keep his eyes open. “What, Emma?”

“Carl, I think I heard a boat motor!”

He snaps awake. “Emma, stay right here. Don’t move. At all.”

“Fine, but I’m gonna go check on Kate. She was acting really weird earlier.”

“Alright, but right after that you come here.”

“Fine.”

Carl pulls on his pants — the man likes to sleep in his boxers! — quickly running out the door. I quickly follow him out the bedroom door, running down the hall to Kate’s bedroom. I open the door. It was empty.

Oh no. She didn’t.

“SAM!!!! GET YOUR ASS UP!!!”
