Past Lives

As soon as the guys and Jamie left, I ran my hand through my hair as I looked at all the boxes.

“You know, we can unpack later.” Brooks said as walked up behind me and put his arms around me.

I sighed and leaned against him. “I know but if it doesn’t get done now, who knows when it will get done.”
“In a few hours?” He said as he turned me around.

I rolled my eyes at his ornery smile. “Yeah and sex can happen later or not at all too.”

Before Brooks could retort, we heard something slam on the front porch.

“Babe stay here.” He said as he walked to the door.

I rolled my eyes and followed him to the door. “It’s still daylight outside; I highly doubt someone is going to try to break in.”

When he opened the front door, we saw Rob sitting there holding his right hand and the broken bench.

“Dude, you owe me a new bench.” Brooks said as he crossed his arms.

“Go inside Brooks.” I said as I looked at Rob.

“But-“

I gave him a stern look and he threw his hands up as he walked back inside.

“Okay Rob, start talking.”

“There isn’t anything to say.” He mumbled as he rubbed his hand.

“You punched that bench a little hard didn’t you?” I said as I sat on the railing.

“It doesn’t matter.” Rob said as he tried to leave.

“No way Jose. Sit your ass down and talk to me. I know it has to do with Jamie.”

“I told her I loved her.”

“Oh Rob. You didn’t.”

He put his head in his hands. “Yeah I did. Am I stupid for hoping she felt the same?”

I shook my head. “Rob, I-I don’t know what to say. I mean, it’s Jamie. She really has never been serious about a guy. Well unless you count Brian, but then again he was a player. She has always been out for a good time.”

“You knew didn’t you? You knew she only wanted sex and not a relationship?” He said as he looked at my intently.

“I-Yes. I did.”

“Then why didn’t you stop me? You knew back in college how I felt about her.”

“But I figured you had gotten over those feelings! We all thought it was some stupid little crush that you would move on from.”

“Now I know how Max felt for those first few months.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Excuse me?”

“Ads, you are so stupid and blind to not see how that boy felt about you. He was in love with you. And you shattered his heart.”

“You think I don’t know that? You think me going back to Brooks was such an easy decision? I cried so hard when he broke up with me.”

“Well if you weren’t such a little whore, stringing them both along, you wouldn’t have been in that situation.”

I had had enough. When you piss me off, you really piss me off. I caught his cheek with a right hook. Before I could get another swing out, I felt someone grab my arms and a chuckle.

“Man, I haven’t seen Ads this pissed off since sophomore year at BC, you must have said something wrong.” Brooks said as he tried to contain me.

“Brooks, if you love me, you will let me go so I can kill him.”

“Scuds, now would be a good time to get out of here, I can’t hold her back for long when she is this pissed.”

Rob looked at me holding his cheek and walked to his car. Once he was a safe distance away, Brooks let go of me.

“What in god’s name did he say to get you so pissed?”

I walked back into the house and to the kitchen to grab something to drink. “Called me a whore and a few other things. Only because he told Jamie he loved her and she rejected him. Pansy ass.”

Brooks laughed. “Jamie rejected him? Now that is some funny shit. I’m sure Craig will be at her house consoling her here in a bit.”

I narrowed my eyes and stared at him. “Brooks…”

He gave me an innocent look. “Hey, is wanting Jamie to be happy a crime?”

I rolled my eyes. “Well no. It is just hard to believe that her happiness will be coming from my boyfriend’s good deeds.”

He wrapped his arms around my waist and gave me a kiss. “What can I say? I am a badass matchmaker. Now onto more important things.”

I gave him a confused look and he threw me over his shoulder and took me to the bedroom.
Welcome to my new home indeed.
