Just Another Girl

Chapter 15

The rays of sunshine were breaking through the windows of Mike's bedroom. He just woke up from a pre-game nap and found himself staring at the ceiling in his room, the feeling that washed over him was exactly how he felt in Kenora, after he kissed Laura. He pulled himself up, but flopped back down onto his soft pillow from the head rush. He closed his eyes hoping to clear his mind, clear his mind of Vivienne just for a few hours, until the game was over at least.

As he laced up his skates he couldn't help but notice Vivienne every time she would walk by. She looked beautiful, she always does, especially on game days. His eyes ran all over her, noticing how the black skirt fitted so perfectly around her hips, the white blouse that showed off her assets, and his eyes ran down her legs, down to the black suede pumps she had on. His heart was aching. Sure before they started dating, it killed him that he couldn't be with her, but at least she was a happy person, she smiled and had that sparkle in her eyes. But now, seeing her everyday and not being with her killed him as well, but it was worse. She didn't smile, there was no sparkle in her eyes anymore, and maybe it was just him, but she seemed to be a lot thinner. It killed him to know that all this, the pain she was going through was caused by him, the one person she thought would never do something like this. He slipped on his jersey and picked up his stick and walked out the door, but not before giving a smile to Vivienne, she, of course, politely smiled back, but he knew it wasn't genuine, it was a painful smile.

The boys stepped on to the ice with a full house of fans, it was a sea of orange. Mike knew he had to forget everything and focus on the game. The Flyers were playing the Leafs, so Vivienne was out there to watch. Every time the Leafs would score she couldn't help but smile, she was a Leafs girl. But she was excited too when the Flyers were able to find the back of the net. It was about ten minutes into the third period when Luke Schenn checked Mike into the boards. Vivienne's heart sunk when Mike did not move. As medics moved onto the ice and flipped Mike on to his back, she felt a bit better when she saw him move.

The remaining ten minutes of the game felt like forever. When it was finally done and the fans roared in excitement over the Flyers win, she quickly returned to the locker room. The guys were happy, they high fived each other and went to see if Mike was okay. Vivienne did not see Mike. She got a glimpse of him when she passed by, but did not walk in to see if he was okay. It turns out that he hurt his knee and would be out for a few weeks.

Vivienne sat at her desk as she waited until all the boys left. She didn't know if she should see Mike, to see if he was okay. But she was upset that he was hurt. She sat there tapping her fingers on the desk for another ten minutes. She got up, grabbed her jacket and keys and decided to see Mike.
