You're a Scribbled out Name That My Love Keeps Writing Again and Again

Bella's Little Sister

Sophia Swan stood awkwardly in the doorway of Charlie's house, wearing the same bemused and anxious expression that her older sister, Isabella Swann had worn just under a year ago.
Sophia never thought her and her sister would have so much in common but as she stood there, she realised her face must of mirrored Bella's as she glanced around the small room.
Her eyes landed on Charlie, who was waiting in silence, and she smiled reassuringly.
"It's good to be back."

Sophia Swann. 16 years of age. 2 years younger than Isabella Swann. 18 years of age.

Sophia always admired her sister. How mature she was. How she took things head on and always seemed to be there for her, to always smooth out any mess. Sophia was never as close to Renee as Bella was. Sophia could never really talk to her mother. Their deep mother-daughter conversations were always awkward and forced. Sophia knew that her and Bella were nothing alike. And this was maybe why her relationship with Renee wasn't very stable.

Bella was intelligent, knowledgably able to pick things up quickly. She saw the world in black and white, as it was and because of that, she was very perceptive. Sophia however was more of a dreamer. She saw the world in multicolor. She looked at the world with a very different point of view, always open to the idea of the unnatural, always ignoring the negative and focusing on the positive.

Sophia always did well at school like Bella. But Bella was more natural intelligent. She didn't really have to study and could still ace every test. Sophia had to work, had to try hard and had to study. She did it to keep Renee happy. She was never thrilled with good grades as they didn't mean anything to her. She was too creative.

Renee had always encouraged Sophia even if she didn’t approve of Sophia’s preferred course of life. Sophia had always loved art, ever since she was a child and had been caught drawing on her bedroom wall. Renee never wanted to hold her back but would always remind Sophia that "drawing pretty pictures" wouldn't get her anywhere in life. Although Renee was proud of her daughter’s amazing creativity ability she would always tell her to keep her head in check. Being able to draw, no matter how good she was, wasn't going to get Sophia anyway. Although Sophia had never been one for listening to her mother, she did her best to cut down on her art and work hard at school.
Bella had made the decision to move to Forks when Renee's mad impulses and Phil's sudden promotion in his job meant they would have to travel. Bella didn't like the idea of constantly moving from place to place. She liked to be stable so decided it was the responsible thing to do if she moved in with her father, Charlie. Sophia stayed with her mother.

Sophia had visited Forks as a child less than Bella. Not because of Charlie. She was much more closer to Charlie then Bella was. It was because every time she had visited Forks, she had hated it. It was a small, secluded place where one person's business became everyone’s. Every time Sophia had visited Forks, she had felt confined. Sophia liked to be free so that was why her decision was to travel with Renee.

She hated having to say goodbye to her sister, as Bell was more of a mother to her then Renee was. She knew she would miss Bella dearly. She hoped Bella would be happy. She knew Bella wasn't close to Charlie and despised Forks as much as she did but Bella hadn't seemed happy in a long time. She hoped Forks would change that. But Sophia couldn't go back to Forks yet. Not yet.
But after about a year, Sophia grew tired of life with Renee and Phil. She didn't much care for Phil, choosing to ignore his presence. This annoyed Renee very much and made things even more edgier for both of them. Sophia felt like she was walking on broken glass when she was around her mother. So, after some time deliberating she too decided it would be best for her to leave. To start going regularly to school, to feel comfortable in her own house. She too decided Forks was the best option.
Sophia remembered all the good things about Forks. Like when she was 6, her and Charlie would play soccer in the garden, loving the fact that she could get as dirty as she wished with no Renee to complain. Bella would sit on the sidelines, watching and cheering for Sophia.

Sophia knew that Bella was happy now. Although she hadn't seen in her in a year, they still kept in touch with regular emails, letters and phone calls. Bella had told Sophia about her new boyfriend. Edward.

This had surprised Sophia. Not because she didn’t think Bella capable of getting a boyfriend, she always thought her older sister was beautiful. No, it was because she and Bella were famous for their lack of social skills. Back in Arizona they were both the girls you would see sitting on their own and picked last for teams. Sophia had a few friends as she got older, some people she could talk to but she didn't really enjoy their company. Isabella and Sophia both preferred to be alone. It was one of the only things they had in common.

Although it shocked Sophia that her sister had been able to get a boyfriend and had made many new friends where she lived, she was excited for her. Maybe things could be the same for Sophia.

Bella told Sophia about Jacob Black as well. Sophia never remembered Jacob Black from her younger visits to Forks. She knew he was a year older than him but that was about it. But recently, Bella had stopped talking about Jacob Black and when Sophia had asked why, she had replied. "It's complicated. Our relationship means more to him then it does to me." However, Bella couldn't wait for Sophia to meet Jacob and Edward though she was a slightly anxious.

Of course, Sophia could never know their true identities. She could never find out that she lived in a world so different to what it seemed. Bella couldn't help laugh at this though. Sophia had always lived in a world different to everyone else. Ever since she was able to talk, she had countless imagery friends all of the mythical genre. Bella wandered if the thought of Vampires and Werewolf’s would really surprise her.
Bella would have to tread carefully with Sophia. She was happy to be able to see her again but knew that meant she would be spending more time around things that were not supposed to exist. Things that could put her sister's life in danger. But Bella had spoke to Edward and he had reassured her that his family would be delighted to get to know Sophia and that they would keep her safe at all times.
But of course Bella being her usual self, couldn't help but listen to the nagging in her mind that constantly told her, something could go wrong.

Bella, who had been waiting upstairs anxiously while Edward reassured her again and again, jumped when she heard the front door.
Edward smiled. "Bella, it's only your sister. Calm down."
"Okay, okay. I'm calm." She said, standing up and getting ready to introduce Edward to her sister.

"So, where's Bella then?" Sophia asked as she pulled away from hugging Charlie.

"Upstairs. With Edward." Sophia noticed how he said Edward's name with obvious distaste.
"Speak of the devil." He muttered.
Sophia looked up to see Bella coming down the stairs, hand in hand with a beautiful boy. His face looked as if it had been sculpted out of marble, pale and smooth with sharp, defined features. His bronze hair was in a tousled on his head, almost glinting gold where the light hit it. His eyes were what caught Sophia though. They were two golden orbs.

Sophia couldn't help but be taken aback by this strangely perfect boy. But she managed to move her gaze to Bella, who was biting her lip anxiously. Sophia rolled her eyes at her sister’s tendency to worry over the smallest of things and drew her into a hug.
"Bella!"
"Sophia! I missed you."
Edward watched as the two sisters parted and grinned at one another, beginning to talk about how much they had missed each other. Edward had seen Sophia through Charlie's mind but that was when she was a child. He didn't expect them to look so different. Sophia was as tall as Bella but not quite as skinny. Sophia's eyes were big and blue, unlike Bella's almond shape, chocolate eyes. Sophia’s face resembled a porcelain dolls, her features put together in a way that made her look innocent and childlike. Her dark hair was much longer than Bella's, cascading down her back and ending in ringlets. She wasn't near as pale as Bella, in fact her skin had an olive tone to it. He guessed people would perceive her as a very pretty human but he couldn't really judge as he knew Bella would be the only one to catch his eyes.
It was only when they smiled, that he could detect the similarity. They must have got their smiles from Charlie.

Sophia turned to Edward, trying not to get put off by his stunning looks.
"You must be Edward." Sophia said, smiling.
She could see Bella, shifting nervously from the corner of her eyes.
"Edward Cullen. It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Sophia."
He held out his hand and Sophia had to stop herself from raising her eyebrows. She took his hand and shook it, startled a bit at the coldness. But that wasn't what bugged her. She wondered why he had greeted her in such a formal manner. Who really shook hands anymore?

Edward smiled as he saw the thought cross Sophia's mind but then abruptly vanish. He couldn't hear anything. Just a hollow silence. He probed into her head, and heard some more thoughts but they sounded distant. As soon as he found them, it was silent again.

He was perplexed by this, wandering if she would have the same immunity as Bella.
"It's nice to meet you too." Sophia managed to force out. "Bella talks so much about you. I'm glad she's finally found someone like you to make her happy."
Edward smiled politely at the kind hearted sister, while Bella blushed. Charlie scoffed and mumbled something under his breath. It sounded suspiciously like " Yeah, if only she could of been happy enough."
Sophia looked at Bella, trying not to laugh,
"Is he always this...difficult?" She whispered, listening to Charlie’s grumble.
"It wasn't always this bad but lately, he's not been trying so hard to hide the fact he can't stand my boyfriend."
Sophia laughed. "Dear God Edward, what did you do?"
He chuckled. "I think every father has an automatic dislike to any boy associated with their daughter."
She smiled, making a mental note to praise Bella on her perfect boyfriend.
"Well, I better go and unpack. Err, can you show me where my room is? It's been a while."
"Yeah, sure." Bella said, noticeably relieved that meeting Edward had gone down well.
"I'll give you two sometime alone. I'll just be waiting down here with Charlie."
Cue sarcastic remark from Charlie.

Bella lead her younger sister upstairs. Sophia's eyes scanned the familiar surroundings, smiling at old memories.

"Here's your room." Bella said, gesturing to a room with grey carpet and pale purple walls. "Sorry, it's so small." She smiled apologetically.
"No, no it's okay. Small's...good."
Bella smiled softly. "You'll like it here, Sophia. It takes some time but trust me. You'll like it."
"I might just have to learn to like it." She said, grimacing as she set her bags down.
"I had your same attitude."
"Buy you obviously love it here. Or should I say, love the people who live here. Edward seems very nice." She smiled, raising her eyebrows.
Bella blushed. "Edward is nice. He's perfect." She sighed, dreamily. "If I hadn't of decided to move here, I might of never meet him."
Her lips turned down at the corners as if she was instantly angry with that thought.

Sophia stared at her sister. "You ever think it's something more then that?"

"What?"

"It's like fate that you meet him. Like some force willed you two to be together. Like your destiny was already predicted, written in the stars."
Bella laughed. "You really haven’t changed much, have you?"
"Oh, come on? You're telling me you don't think that at all?"
Bella raised her eyebrows doubtfully though she had pondered what Sophia was saying before.
"Ever the sceptic. Trust me, Bella, there’s magic all around us. It only works if you're willing to let it in."

Magic? It’s closer then you think.
Bella frowned at her thought, her heart flittered nervously. Sophia was so accepting of things that other people would laugh at. It made Bella nervous.

"So, what about you? Are you willing to let some magic in and find your perfect man?" Bella asked, playfully, steering the conversation towards a more joking tone.
Sophia pulled a face. "No thank you. Boys are the last thing on my mind right now."
"Always keep a open mind, Sophia. You were the one to teach me that."
"Who knows? Maybe I’ll get lucky and pick up some bearded hiker?"
Bella laughed.

Sophia looked down at all her bags and grimaced.
"Yeah...I think I’ll unpack these later."
Bella smiled. "Typical, Sophia." Just like her to put things off. "I thought you were working on the whole prioritising concept?"
Sophia rolled her eyes. "Please. You sound like mom."

Sophia walked over to the window and leant her elbows on the cold windowsill. She tilted her head to the side as she stared out. The trees were clumped together in a dark knot, the green leaves contrasting against the bark. Everything seemed to look grey and bleak. Sophia frowned. It was sort of eerie. And beautiful.

"You know, the view her is not half bad." She said."I might use it for creative purposes."
She turned to see Edward suddenly at the doorway, his arm around Bella's waist.
"Oh...Hey Edward."
He nodded and smiled. "I was wondering if you would like to come and meet my family? I was just about to take Bella and I’m sure she would love it if you meet them."

Sophia noticed the warning glare Bella was giving to Edward but decided to ignore it when Bella turned and forced a smile.

"Yeah." Bella said, lamely.
"I don't know. I don't want to intrude or anything-"
"Honestly, It's no problem. I'm inviting you as a guest."
"Oh. Well. I guess, okay then?"
Edward's face broke out into a breathtaking smile. "Great. Shall we?"
"Err, do you mind if I just get changed first? I've been wearing these old clothes to travel in."
Edward raised his eyebrows. Once again, it was so unlike Bella. "Of course. We'll be down stairs."
He smiled one last time before dragging a strained looking Bella out of the room.
"Are you crazy Edward?! This is completely irrational. What possible sane thought was going through your mind when you invited my sister into a house full of vampires?!" She hissed.
"Calm down Bella. I know what I’m doing. And frankly I’m insulted. " He said playfully. "You know we won't hurt her."
"It's just wrong Edward. She doesn't know anything about vampires yet she's going to be in a house with seven of them?"
"We’re round humans all the time. She's your sister Bella. Besides, I thought she deserved to meet my family as well. It’s only polite."
"Are you sure Edward?"
Edward smiled his crooked smile. "Absolutely. I want her to meet my family. I'm sure Alice will take a liking to her."
Bella sighed. "I’m not going to win this one am i?"
“Not a chance.”
“Fine.” She grumbled

Edward smiled and kissed her forehead.

"So, what was she thinking? Complete and utter despair? Intense loathing of this place?" Bella asked with a grin.
Edward frowned and his eyes narrowed in annoyance.
"What?" Bella's eyes suddenly widened "Oh! You can't read her mind?"
"No, no. I can. Sort of."
"Sort of? Would you care to explain?"
He sighed. " It's like…she's blocking me. Every time I go to read her mind, its seems...distant. I can hear the thought that pops into her head but then it disappears as quickly as it came. Like turning down the volume. Like she can tell it's being seen so she is hiding it. But she would need extraordinary focus and concentration to be able to do that."
Bella frowned. "Focus? Sophia's mind is always in La La land."
"It’s very strange. It feels like her brain is clogged up and I need to pick my way through it to find her thoughts. Like now. It's completely silent."
"I'm not sure i understand. You say her thoughts are disappearing when you try to see them?"
"That’s the best way to describe. It's a very complex gift, I have. You cannot really understand the full extent of it unless you experience it yourself." He frowned. "It’s like her brain is a steamed up window. I am able to wipe some steam away which allows me to see a part of the scenery outside. But then, before I can look close enough, the window simply steams back up again. It's a never ending cycle."
"How strange." Bella murmured.

They both turned and glanced at Sophia’s bedroom door.
A light bulb suddenly clicked in Bella's head.

"Ah! So that was why you suggested we take Sophia round yours. You're going to ask Carlisle’s theory on this."
Edward grinned. "Okay, you got me." He paused, encircling Bella in his arms and staring into her eyes, not knowing the full extent of weakness that comes over Bella when he does this. "But I do really want her to meet my family, Bella. Just because she doesn't know about us doesn't mean we can't have her in your life as much as possible. I don't want to be the reason why you avoid your family, love."
"That's what I’m scared of Edward. Bringing her into my life. I just kept putting more and more people in danger."
"Please don't fret so Bella. There is no need." He rubbed soothing circles on her arm, his ice cold fingers trailing over her skin and making her shiver. His head turned to her door again.
"Sophia is almost ready to go. Are you?"
Bella smiled and nodded.
Edward smiled darkly. "Let’s go introduce your sister to the most elusive family in Forks."

I picture Sophia to look like Rosie Hardy. If you are not aware of who she is then you should google her as her photography is amazing.

Thank you for reading :D
