Wanted: Dead or Alive
Prologue
_________________________________________February 11, 1865
Today was my eighteenth birthday.
My father said that starting tomorrow, I would be accompanying him on one of his journeys in search of an outlaw. The government placed a five-hundred dollar bounty on the outlaw. Father hasn’t told me of whom the person was yet but I believe we’ll find him and bring him in. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to bring him in alive but father said the government wanted him dead or alive. Knowing my old man, the outlaw doesn’t stand a chance of being brought in alive to be hanged…
Nonetheless, I am thrilled for the traveling that we’ll do because I have always loved seeing new places and meeting different people but I’m not thrilled over hunting down a man. Killing is not something I want my future to revolve around but my father … he’s a hard man to go against his decisions.
I have to go now, mother has supper on the table waiting for me. I’ll record the beginning of my journey tomorrow.
