Parachute

Better Start Playing Those Cards Then

The food had arrived and we all tucked into it eagerly, I had ordered the duck and couldn’t believe how it good it was, the boys had ordered the filet of beef which smelt amazing, Ashlee got the salmon and Catherine got chicken. I had eaten my duck and glanced around the table, everyone was chatting and having a good time, I picked up my glass of wine and sipped it, I looked over at Greg who was pushing a potato around his plate, I turned to face him and placed my hand on his shoulder,

‘You ok ?’ I asked, he quickly looked up at me and smiled,

‘Yeah, just tired’ he yawned, I smiled and looked around at the turquoise and chocolate brown décor,

‘Don’t you just love how my dress clashes with the décor’ I giggled, he laughed and shook his head,

‘You look amazing you don’t need to worry about matching with the restaurant’ he stated and placed his fork down on the table, I sipped my wine again and placed it down on the table, I slowly stood up and pulled my shrug around my shoulder and grabbed my purse,

‘Please excuse me, I’m just heading to the restrooms’ I announced, everyone smiled nodded, I made way across the room to the bathrooms and pushed the door open. There were two woman standing at the mirrors fixing their make up, I joined them and searched my bag for my lipstick, I applied it carefully and fixed my eyeliner, I washed my hands and glanced up into the mirror, I took a deep breath and ran my hands through my wavy hair, I began putting everything back in my bag when my phone started to ring, I picked it up and glanced at the screen “Mom calling” it read, I sighed but smiled and answered it,

‘Hello Mother’ I exclaimed and closed my bag,

‘Hello daughter, I was just calling to make sure you were still alive as I haven’t heard from you quite some time’ she teased, I laughed and pursed my lips,

‘I know I’m sorry, life’s been pretty hectic here’ I admitted,

‘It’s ok sweetie’ she said understandingly, my attention shot to the bathroom door where I could see Greg standing outside with the door wide open, I giggled quietly as motioned for me to come over, I gave him the one minute finger and watched him smile his cheeky grin which revealed his dimples,

‘Well your father and I are actually in Vegas right now’ she chuckled, my eyes widened and my jaw dropped,

‘What ?’ I gasped, she chuckled loudly,

‘We came to see a show and decided we’d pop in tomorrow as you’re off work’ she explained, I smiled and picked up my purse,

‘Aw you guys, well I’m actually out at dinner with a few of my work friends, so it won’t be an early morning for me, so come over at about two o’clock and we’ll have lunch’ I exclaimed, I could hear my mom chuckle quietly to herself,

‘I have feeling you have met someone already’ she mumbled, I smiled slightly and looked up at Greg who was whistling to himself,

‘I may have’ I whispered, my mom squealed with delight,

‘Oh Allison we have to meet him tomorrow’ she squeaked, I bit my lip and thought for a minute,

‘I’ll ask him what he thinks, but Mother I must be going now’ I explained, she laughed and sighed,

‘Ok sweetheart, I’ll see you tomorrow’ she said, I said goodbye and hung up, I ran over to Greg and grabbed his arms,

‘My parents are coming to mine tomorrow and they want to meet you’ I mumbled and dropped my head to his chest, he chuckled and pulled me back,

‘That’s ok’ he explained, I raised my eyebrow,

‘Really ?’ I asked, he grinned widely and nodded,

‘Hopefully, if I play my cards right I’ll be waking up your place in the morning anyway’ he teased, I laughed and raised my eyebrow once more,

‘Better start playing those cards then’ I whispered and headed back over to the table.
