Rain Gently Tapping Against My Skin

Chapter Twenty-Three: I Wish I Was Strong

The tunnels were thin, dark, and cold. But, I wasn’t scared. I’m a daughter of Hecate and Vlad, a born vampire-witch. Plus, I had Teddy.

“Scarlett, Jesse, stop!! Wait right where you are!!”

“You heard him, Vonnie, stop!!” Teddy says, holding me in place. “Uncle Kevin should go first.”

“But he’ll never find aunt Melody, Teddy!”

“Yes he will! Uncle Kevin can do anything,”
Teddy’s telepathic voice says smugly.

“Alright you two, there’s a river down there. Now, hop on my back and I’ll swim through it. Okay?” he kneels down in front of us. I immediately wrap my little arms around his neck, hopping onto his back.

“I can swim.”

“You sure, Jesse?”

“Yeah. Vonnie needs to ride, though,” that’s my Teddy. Always looking out for me.

My name is actually Scarlett Maryvonne Andrews. Teddy’s name is Jesse Theodore Andrews. We’re twins. Alison Rosetta Muse — recently Johnson — is our mommy. Donovan Xander Andrews is our daddy.

The water was cold, reaching nearly up to my neck. I held on tighter to Kevin, shivering against the cold waters. He swims very fast, Teddy right beside me, keeping me from going under.

“Keep your head up, Vonnie,” Teddy thinks, helping me keep my head up.

“The water’s strong, Teddy.”

“Uncle Kevin will keep you up.”

“Help me.”

“Okay, I’ll help. Hold your breath. Count to ten. Let your fangs extend,”
Teddy thinks, pulling me off of Kevin.

“Jesse, what are you doing?” Kevin asks, helping to keep me above the water. I hated being so weak. I wanted to be strong like Mommy and aunt Melody. I felt my fangs extend, my senses expand. My head sinks under the water as I held my breath, swimming as fast as I could through the water.
