Sequel: Hearts On Fire

In the Rose Garden

I'm Gonna Treat You Better

Joe watched Addison sleep for a moment before he had to wake her up. He had to drop her off at Lily's so she could get her car and go home and then to work. Then he had to head off to the studio with his brothers to continue working on the new album. Afterwards, they would all be meeting up at his house again to tell Addison's father about last night. Just the thought about last night started to boil his blood again. Joe took a deep breath and let it out, calming himself down. He sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook Addison.

"Hey, it's time to get up," he quietly said when she opened her eyes. He could tell she was still tired and could use more sleep but they both had full days ahead of them. Addison sat up and rubbed her eyes.

"What time is it?"

"Six."

"Seriously?" she asked and covered her mouth when she yawned.

"I know, sorry," Joe responded and moved as she moved to the edge of the bed. He kissed her forehead and then gathered her clothes from yesterday and handed them to her.

"Thanks," she said before he left the room. She spent a few minutes trying to wake up before she got dressed. After ten minutes, she walked out of Joe's room as he stepped out of the bathroom. His light blue towel hung low around his hips and his hair was dripping onto the hard wood floors beneath their feet. Addison blushed and quickly looked away. Joe touched her shoulder as he walked past. She put her hand on her forehead and closed her eyes before heading downstairs. She went into the dining room since that's where everyone else was.

"Breakfast will be ready soon, hon," Mrs. Jonas told her. Addison sat in the same spot she had when she joined them for dinner. Everyone seemed to be doing their own thing even at this early hour in the morning. Joe finally sat down next to her. He leaned over and planted a kiss on her temple. He seemed to have no problem showing his affection for her in front of his family. A few minutes later when everyone was seated at the table, they had breakfast. Afterwards, Mrs. Jonas bid farewell to her husband and children. She told Addison she'd see her later and to just give her a call before she got there so she could unlock the gate.

Addison looked out the window for a moment as they were on their way back to Lily's house. "Thanks for letting me stay the night."

"It was no problem."

"And thanks for staying with me last night despite the problem."

"I won't lie, that was kind of awkward but I could see that you really wanted me there. I'm still really sorry about that."

"Like I said, it happens."

"Hey," he said and looked at her, "no one needs to know about that."

"Maybe except Lily-"

"No!"

Addison laughed. "I was just kidding. No one needs to know." She went back to looking out the window. She watched all the sedans and SUVs that were on their way to work. Kids, young and old, were starting to arrive at their bus stops, chatting with friends as they waited to be picked up and taken to the last place they wanted to spend eight hours of their day.

After ten minutes of silence, Joe spoke up. "I don't think I ever apologized for last night. I'm sorry Taylor was being such a jerk."

"Did you notice you apologize for Taylor an awful lot?"

"I know, right. Sometimes I think the filter between her brain and mouth needs to be replaced."

"She's kind of a bitter person. It's kind of funny to see how differently people handle the fame they get. I mean, you and your brothers are… normal. Whenever I'm with you, I forget that you're in one of the biggest groups in music, in the world, but her… she's all I'm Taylor Swift, I'm Taylor Swift, now bow down damnit." She even waved her hands in the air.

Joe couldn't help but laugh at her interpretation of Taylor. "That was actually pretty good. She wasn't always like that."

"No one ever is."

"True. Well I got my brothers by my side and my parents, Frankie and Dani behind me to go through everything with me. Hopefully you'll be a part of that group soon."

"Well, you already know the deal about that."

"I know." He didn't want to say soon. He knew she was getting tired of hearing the word soon. He pulled into Lily's driveway and got out of his car. He walked over to Addison and wrapped his arms around her. "I'll see you later. Have a good day."

"You have a good day too. Tell my dad I said hi."

"I will," Joe responded. As usual, he tried to kiss her and she turned her head. This time he caught the corner of her mouth. "Oh! So close!"

"Shut up Joseph!" She punched him in his chest.

He laughed and pulled her to him. "I'm serious though. Try and have a good day. Don't think about what happened last night and if you do, just think about what happened later."

Addison started cracking up.

"See? Just think about last night." He kissed her forehead and started walking backwards. "See you later Addison."

"See you later Joe." Addison went to her best friend's front door and knocked. Moments later, her dad opened the door and she quietly went upstairs and retrieved her car keys off of Lily's dresser. Just as she turned around to walk out, Lily caught her attention.

"Hey Addison, I'll be in later. I'm working with you guys again today."

"Okay, I'll see you later then."

"Wait a sec, what happened last night?"

"Nothing really, why?"

"You're still not Joe's girlfriend yet?"

"He knows not until he breaks up with Taylor. He has to break up with her first and then we'll talk. I have to get home to shower and clean up."

"Yeah, I'll see you later."

"Later Lily." Lily waved her off and rolled back over onto her side.

Addison quietly shut the front door and looked up to see where she was going. She saw Joe's car sitting in the street. When she got her car, she waved to him. She couldn't tell through the tinted windows if he waved back or not but he pulled away a few seconds later.

Joe quietly walked into the studio and sat on the couch next to Nick and Kevin. He saw Addison's father at the soundboard making adjustments.

"Mr. Turner?"

"Yeah?" He turned around and faced Joe.

"Addison said to tell you hi."

He nodded his head. "Thanks." He turned back around. He was too busy pondering what happened to her last night. Mr. Jonas told him his wife's plan and Mr. Turner agreed to follow them home.

"I thought you were going to room with me last night," Nick said.

"Addison wanted me to stay and sleep with her, so I did," Joe responded. They watched as Mr. Turner turned his head and look at Joe for a prolonged moment before turning back around. Nick and Joe held back their laughter. Joe got up and grabbed one of the notebooks the boys had brought. He sat back in his spot and started scribbling lyrics down.

They say you'll know when you really find the one. But it's hard to tell with the damage that I've done.

But I'd like to say that it's your fault but I know better. 'Cause I'm a fool to think you'd wait around forever.

Joe tapped the pen on the paper. He crossed out "that I've done" and replaced it with "that's been done."

They say you'll know when you really find the one. But it's hard to tell with the damage that's been done.

He watched out of the corner of his eye as Nick stretched his neck and peeked at the notebook. "You can check it out when I'm done."

Nick opened his mouth to say something but Joe cut him off.

"And make any changes you deem fit."

"Awesome. Thanks."

Joe smirked and shook his head. He continued writing and halfway through the day, he handed the notebook off to Nick. He watched as Nick went to work crossing out and scribbling as if he were grading someone's poorly written academic paper. Just before they left, Nick handed the notebook back.

"Those are just my suggestions. You can use them if you want but you don't have to since I'm getting the feeling that song is for a certain someone."

"It is but you know I value your input."

"You value Nick's input on what?" Kevin asked.

Joe passed the notebook over.

"Can I have a pen or something?" They passed him a pen. Instead of crossing anything out, he made side notes and arrows with his suggestions in the margins.

"That's a pretty good song. Do you want to put it on the new album?" Kevin asked.

Joe shook his head. "No, I think I'm going to keep it to myself for a while if that's okay with you guys. You know, play it for Addison and see if she likes it."

"She's going to like it, trust me," Kevin said. "She'd be crazy not to."

"Thanks guys," Joe said.

Since it was the end of the day, they all gathered up all their stuff and left the studio. In the parking lot, the boys said their goodbyes to the band members and then got into their cars. Mr. Jonas and Kevin got in one car and Joe and Nick got in Joe's car. Mr. Turner drove behind Mr. Jonas and in front of Joe so they wouldn't lose him. As they drove to the nicer part of town, Mr. Turner wondered what it was about Joe that attracted his daughter to him. Sure, Joe was a good guy but could the idea of dating a rock star be a more appealing attribute? He wondered since she never talked about him in a celebrity type of sense. If she had never said his last name, you never would have known she was talking about the Joe Jonas. Joe obviously liked her. He was pretty much head over heels for her but he could have any girl he wanted and according to Addison, he still had a girlfriend. So what exactly was he doing with her? Was he just stringing her along? Was he going to be the type of guy who feels the need to buy her love to make her stay in a relationship? Mr. Jonas seemed to have raised his kids well but you could never really tell. Guess only time can really tell.

They pulled into the Jonas' driveway and parked their cars. They went inside and Mrs. Jonas told them that Addison was running a little late and she would be there in a couple minutes. That gave Mr. Turner a couple minutes to acquaint himself with the parents. Addison soon showed up and Kevin, Frankie, Nick and Danielle were sent from the room. Addison requested that Joe stay with her along with his parents. Tightly holding Joe's hand, Addison broke the news.

Since it's my birthday I should be out partying and whatnot but instead I'm at home updating. Yay me.

Just one update tonight. I didn't finish twelve in time. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be posted. I leave in seven days so we'll see what happens before then.

Kudos to Mashi and Jenna for feedback.
