Miss Vengeance
Six
When Missy woke up the next morning, or afternoon, her head was not happy with her. But she had a text message from Zack, telling her he was leaving and that she should text him when she didn’t feel like death warmed over.
After she’d gotten Zack settled on a barstool, Matt asked her to do a shot with him. Then another. Then another. And she’d kind of lost count how many beers Brian had bought her. Brian acted like an egotistical dickhead, but he was actually quite nice to her. He hadn’t even been mad when she’d gotten a bit of vomit on his shoes. Then again, he may have thrown up in her bathtub, she couldn’t remember. She made a mental note to check up on that later.
First, she sent Zack a text, asking him how he felt and if Brian remembered where exactly he’d thrown up the night before. She didn’t expect an answer until later, figuring he’d passed out in a bunk and wasn’t even relatively conscious.
She got one back right away, however, telling her he felt fine, and Brian was sorry about the bathtub. She laughed and sent him her reply, padding her way into her bathroom to inspect the damage. She pulled back the shower curtain and sighed. At least he’d tried to clean it up. No, she remembered, Matt had tried to clean it up.
Matt.
She halted her brain before it could go any farther than that.
By the time Zack decided it was time to visit her again, there was snow on the ground, a kitten in the house, and she was pretty much buddy-buddy with everyone in her brother’s band.
And she still had to put the breaks on her mind every time she thought of Matt. And his eyes. And his lip ring. And his dimples. And the tattoo on his chest. And… putting the breaks on didn’t always work in her favor.
