They walked through the shopping centre, too close together to be considered normal for friends, the one on the left’s arm slightly behind the other’s back as if he wanted to sling it round him. They cut through the crowd together, walking closer or behind each other to stay next to each other.

They shared each other’s body heat, the flapping material of their shirts brushing, colours clashing and overlapping. He dipped his head and whispered into his ear, lips touching him discretely. His arm came too close to wrapping round his lover, and he changed it’s course quickly, elbow bending to tuck behind his companion.

He flicked the other’s sunglasses on top of his head and smiled. People were walking past them, not paying any attention to them. Not a second glance was spared, and no-one noticed. No-one noticed that his hand was creeping under his boyfriend’s shirt at the back, and brushing skin that nobody but he could touch.

He imagined life where they weren't a secret, and they didn't dream their girlfriends gone. He imagined life out of this city, a fresh start in the dreamy countryside.
