The Heart Does Go On

Chapter 96 - "WHAT ABOUT THE CAKE?!"

Word had gotten around fast that I, Ella Campbell, the girlfriend of Seto Kaiba was having an 18th birthday party. I blame Kathryn; she’s known to not keep her mouth shut.

Because of this, nearly the entire school was approaching me, some were sucking up to me to gain an invite, others were being more upfront and telling me it’d be ‘worth my while’ to invite them, and they would ‘make the party’

It was getting annoying, to say the least.

At least I didn’t have to worry about the gatecrashers that could turn up, the party being held in the dining hall of the Kaiba mansion, so therefore security would be TIGHT. It was hard to break into the Kaiba mansion alone, but there would be so many security guards even the most skilled gatecrashers wouldn’t be able to get in.

However, even though I had complete randoms coming up to me about my party, I had my TRUE friends coming up to me about it too, offering to help me organize everything. I was already going to organize everything with Kathryn and Duke, but having the gang there too would be fun. Even Bakura had offered to help.

The easiest option for everyone to get together at the same place at the same time was a day afterschool in an empty classroom, which is what we were doing now.

We re-arranged the row of tables to create one big table so that everyone could face each other while we came up with ideas.

“So I’ve come up with a list of good party themes, let me know what you think.” Kathryn said, pulling a piece of paper from her binder and handing it to me.

A mid summer night’s dream I never read that play, never did most of the guests. Pass.

Can’t fight the Moonlight wtf would that even mean? Pass

Casablanca good movie, bad for a theme. Pass

Cinderella and Prince Charming it has potential, but it’d suck for those without a partner (i.e. Joey) and I’m not that selfish. Pass.

Cupid’s Ball what is this, Valentines Day? Pass.

Greek Paradise I can already see some of my friends with Italian heritage starting fights. Pass.

Heaven on Earth my party is totally going to be freedom of religion, I can already see conflicts. Plus, kinda boring. Pass.

Masquerade Ball I don’t want to wear a mask for my 18th, and I’m sure many others would feel the same way. Pass.

Saturday Night Fever I prefer Friday nights. Pass.

Under the Sea I’m not a red haired mermaid, but I wish I had the killer torso she had. But I don’t, so pass.

I passed the list back to Kathryn, which had every entry crossed off, as I yawned.

“What?! Those are SO CUTE! How could you decline them?!” she asked, getting angry.

I snatched the paper out of her hands and passed it around the table, beginning with Duke.

Everyone agreed that most of those themes were not good for an 18th party, and not my ‘style’ except for Tea, who had sided with Kathryn.

“Guys, calm down. This is Ella’s 18th, it’s her special night. I think she should get the ultimate say in the end. She was nice enough to ask us for our help to begin with.” Yugi said, to get everyone to stop arguing.

“I guess.” Tea sighed.

“Alright. But it better be a good theme!” Kathryn warned.

“Well, what are other typical themes? How about decade themes?” Duke asked.

“Anything before the 50s people wouldn’t know what to wear, umm 50s might be okay but I don’t know, I’m kind of antsy about having it as my theme though.” I nervously stated.

“Alright then 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s. Take your pick.” Tristan stated.

“What about 00s?” Joey asked.

“Are you kidding? That’s stupid. We’ve only JUST ended that decade. People would just show up with what they’re wearing now!” Tristan argued.

“Noughties theme…that could work. We started the noughties as children, and ended it as adults. Besides, there were a few fads in the noughties that fizzled out before now. And there’s others things to dress up as, such as influential pop culture stuff that occurred during the noughties.” I grinned.

“That isn’t bad! I can dress up however I want and claim it’s fashion from the noughties. Woohoo, it’s going to be so easy to pick up! I agree!” Kathryn cheered.

I looked around at everyone else, who seemed to agree. The only person who seemed to have a problem with it was Bakura, who seemed…. distant. He had barely spoken, so I guess he didn’t have a ‘problem’ with the theme he was just apathetic towards the situation.

“What decorations are you going to have then?” Tea asked me.

“WHAT ABOUT THE CAKE?!” Joey asked, licking his lips.

“Umm decorations can be just big pictures of still events of the 2000s, catching the decade in one shot. As for the cake, I don’t know.” I sighed, slumping onto my chair.

“Why don’t you get a cake that’s molded into letters that say ‘2000 – the decade that was’ or something?” Duke suggested.

“That’s not a bad idea, that could be the theme as well!” I happily stated.

“Well now that’s all taken care of, let’s start with the guest list. YOU HAVE TO INVITE EVERY HOT GUY IN OUR YEAR!” Kathryn squealed, which made me roll my eyes.

I didn’t really mind who would be coming. Just as long as my best friends and Seto were there, my night was complete. Maybe this birthday wouldn’t be horrible, like my 10-year streak of birthdays has been.

Every chapter that I wrote about Ella's birthday (this and the next few) were EXTREMELY fun to write. I pretty much just wrote out my fantasies aha.
