The year is 1995. In Oakland, California, a small time band called Green Day is making it big as they begin work on their new album, Insomniac. But the pressure is built on the band as Reprise Records make a deadline.
Meanwhile, 22 year old Australian college student Juliet Jinx is starting afresh in America, after a crisis pulls her family apart.
And through a weird twist of fate, Juliet and Green Day are pulled together, making a slow starting but strong friendship as they relate to their fucked pasts. But when Juliet falls for fellow studnet Rowan, Tre begins to feel tugs of jealousy . . .
