Blue

It was night. But not the kind that is special, or darker. Just the night. The same as it was the night before. Calm and soothing, occasional sound of crickets and maybe some night bird; the rustling of the leaves and a couple of more light bugs.

But then he opened his eyes and looked up to the sky. It was the same sky, the same stars as the night before. And the night before that. Nothing special. But with his perfectly blue eyes he saw something different. Something that wasn’t there.

Looked left, a tree. Looked right, another tree.

Nothing special, nothing new.

He curled in fetal positioning and sighed. He was alone. That’s what was different from the previous night. And the night before.
