Locating the Love She Never Had
Yeah KT. No Problem.
"Yeah KT. No problem," Matnson said.
She saw Morgan looking at her strangely.
"Listen K, I gotta go...Love you too. Bye."
She hung up her cell and placed her stuff at her desk
"Who's Katie?" he asked.
"My sister. Why?"
"You didn't say you had a sister."
"I didn't know I had to tell you everything."
"Felica-"
"Matnson."
"Matnson, we're a family here and family knows everything and cares about everyone."
"Well, that'd be a new concept for my family."
"Your family doesn't care? Matn-"
"Don't tell me it'll be OK. I stop believing that years ago."
"In this job you have to have hope."
"I do. Just not for myself," she said, anger rising in her voice.
"Leasha, I'm sorry."
She froze.
Leasha, she imagined her father saying, I'm sorry.
Leasha, she heard her mother whispered, I'm sorry.
"Don't ever call me Leasha ever again."
Morgan looked confused.
"I think you should go."
Without arguing Morgan left her desk and went to his. Matnson took a seat.
I'd rather him call me Gorgeous, she thought.
He didn't know what set Matnson off or how to talk her down from her anger. He had done numerous successful hostage negotiations. So what was so different about her? Then it hit him. He had always known everything about those UNSUBs he knows nothing about her. Suddenly he was a man on a mission: fin out everything about Matnson and build a profile.
"Hey," Reid said to Matnson.
"Reid," she called.
He spun around on one foot and walked back to Matnson's desk.
"Yeah?"
"I need to tell you something. I don't think I can do this anymore."
"I know that last case was gruesome but most aren't that bad."
It wasn't the case. It's Morgan."
"Morgan? Huh. I can't say he gets any better."
"I don't know how he could get any worse."
"Remember how helpful Prentiss was? What if she quit after she met Morgan? Or Garcia? What would happen if Garcia quit?"
Reid knew that couldn't happen. That Garcia couldn't quit, but Matnson didn't.
"Alright, I'll stay."
"See you later then."
"Bye Reid."
She smiled a strong smile.
Remember who your doing this for. Just ignore Morgan and everything will be OK, she told herself. Focus on your job half as much as Dad and we'll be okay. KT needs you. Mom needs you. No one else matters.
