Pumpkin Pie

“Ali, Now!” Alissa Daniels sighed as she set her book down.

Ali had been dreading there little family trip. Every year they would make a trip to the cider mill. Sure she loved Cider and Doughnuts, but ever since her parents started down the road of divorce all they did was argue or not talk at all.

Ali checked herself over in her full length mirror once more, smoothing out her white top. She grabbed her bright Orange Ipod and shoved it into her back pocket, making her way out of the house.

Ali listened to her parents as they backed out of the drive way. She knew her dad had been cheating and her mom didn’t care about anything anymore. Giving her younger sister Bree a reassuring smile, she turned on her Ipod drowning out the bickering.

At Eighteen Ali was sure she would have been out of the house already, attending some nice college having fun. Instead Ali stayed at home, took care of her Fourteen year old sister and went to a community college in town.

Watching the tree’s and houses pass by, Ali couldn’t help but feel something different as she watched the colored leaves fall from the tree’s

Ali snapped back to reality as her mom’s van came to a stop. Looking at the run down barn they went to every year. Nothing ever changed, Picnic tables sat in the same places, same wooden door leading into the small Bakery. The only thing that seemed to change was everything was getting older, the weather wearing down the old building.

Ali walked behind her parent’s with her arm around her younger sister’s shoulder. Walking into the small Bakery, the sent of fresh Doughnuts and Cider hitting her hard. Ali took notice to how crowded the small barn was, which was quite normal for this time of year.

Ali felt Bree sigh, watching her parent’s continue to bicker, it was starting to get embarrassing. I mean they were in public after all.

“I’m going to wait outside.” Bree muttered, making her way back out through the crowded Bakery.

Ali watched the door shut behind Bree. Ali rolled her eyes as her parent’s bickering turned into arguing loudly, which in turn caused people to stare.

“For god’s sake will you guys just stop for five minutes!” Ali said harshly. “Now lets just get the shit and go!”

Ali turned on her heals leaving her parent’s stunned. Ali pulled open the old wood door taking one step out. With her eyes on Bree sitting on top of a picnic table, she hadn’t noticed the young man walking towards her.

With a hard thud and a bunch of laughing. It took Ali five seconds to notice she was covered in Pumpkin Pie. Feeling her face heat up she took the Brown haired guys out stretched hand. “I’m so sorry.” He spoke with a chuckle.

Ali nodded her head, finally looking up into his dark brown eyes. “It’s fine, probably the funniest thing that’s happened to me today.”

“I’m Alex by the way.” Alex smiled.

“Ali.” She smiled, looking down at her now ruined top.

Ali let out a small chuckle as she pulled part of the crust off her shirt. “Uh, here.” Alex said, pulling off his hoodie, handing it to the small girl.

“I couldn’t.” Ali said, pushing his hand away.

“To bad!” Alex said, shoving the hoodie into Ali’s arms.

Before Ali could reply Alex had started walking back towards his friends. Letting out a sigh Ali walked towards that bathrooms.

Discarding her ruined top into the nearest trash can, Ali couldn’t help but notice how warn the large Blink-182 hoodie was. Taking a seat next to Bree on the picnic table Ali smiled.
“I’m sorry but that was the best thing I’ve seen all day!” Bree laughed.

“Shut up!” Ali smiled slightly nudging her younger sister.

“He was pretty cute though.” Bree said, looking in the direction the four boys were standing. “And sweet, considering he gave you his hoodie.”

“Yeah, though insanely embarrassing.” Ali said, remembering his friends laughing at her.

Ali smiled as she saw her parent’s finally walk out of the bakery, She was ready to go home.

Ali followed Bree off the picnic table as there parent’s walked by them. Looking back one last time she sent Alex one last smile.

Bree let out a small chuckle as she noticed who was following her older sister. “Ali.” She said, pointing a finger.

Ali furrowed her eyebrows as her eyes followed her sister’s finger. A small smile appeared on her face as she spoke. “Are you stalking me now?! Or do you want your hoodie back?”

Alex smiled at her joke. “It’s not stalking unless I know where you live.” Ali smiled at Alex’s words, ignoring her mom as she continued to ask who Alex was. “And you can keep the hoodie, looks better on you anyways.” Alex shoved his hands in his front pockets of his faded skinny jeans and rocked back and forth on his heals. “Would you, uh, wanna go out sometime?”

“Like a date?” Ali asked, taking note as to how shy Alex had turned.

“Yeah.” Alex replied, meeting Ali’s bright blue eyes.

“Okay.” Ali smiled, she held out her hand as Alex set his phone in her palm with a bright smile. “Hope to hear from you soon Alex.” Ali smiled giving Alex his phone back just before she climbed into the van.

Ali smiled as her parent’s drove away from the Cider Mill. A bright smile on her face all because of Pumpkin Pie.
