Damned.

5- Sofia

She sat in her bed staring out her window smelling the ocean breeze, watching the blue Pacific Ocean. She sighed, there was yelling downstairs she could hear them shouting at each other, talking about her and how worthless she was to them.

"I don't know how much of this I can take," she whispered, wiping tears from her face.

"Sofia get down down here right now!"Her mother shouted from the kitchen.

Sofia stood up stretching her slim body and walking towards the door, not really wanting to go and talk to her mother.

"SOFIA!" Her mother screeched.

Sofia winced at the voice of her mother and quickly made her way downstairs and into the kitchen, to not upset her mother.

"What is it?" she sneered.

"Don't give me that tone," her mother snapped.

"What do you want now?"

"To clean up this mess,"

Sofia just shook her head, "You can just forget it, and I’m tired of being treated like I don't belong because I'm different than you"

"You do as--"

"Shut up mother just shut up!" she screamed.

Sofia's mother looked at her like she was crazy; she stood up and shoved Sofia onto the ground.

"Oops, I'm sorry"

She gasped "You did that on purpose!"

"Don't be silly,"

"Mother you’re nearly fifty years old! Act your damn age!" She growled.

Sofia walked stood up and walked out of her mother's sight and decided to go out for a walk on the beach.

Ever since Sofia could remember she was always treated differently than her siblings, she would always be the one who had to take care of everyone else. Her mother would always scowl at her for no real reason, just for being herself. Carefree and bubbly.

While she walked, Sofia thought about how much she was going to miss the California beaches and just her country in general. Her grandparents said they were going to take her for a small vacation in Europe, as much as she was excited for this, she was going to miss her home.

Sofia's phone was ringing, she quickly answered when she noticed it was her grandma.

"Hello?"

"Sofia? Are you ready sweetie?"

"Yes, mamma" she smiled.

"You're not at home?"

"No, I wanted to go for a walk, I'm going to miss these beaches," she replied sadly.

"Aw, you'll be back before you know it!"

Sofia went back to her house where she found her brothers and sister with her mother all laughing at having a good time.

Without me, as always.

She thought; Sofia walked inside and grabbed her suitcases and pulled them out to the patio, her mother and father kept mumbling something about Sofia.

"I don't see how SOFIA gets to travel to Europe but we don't!" her sister, Mia whined.

"We don't know why either, guess Sofia is the favorite grand child," her own mother spat.

It was obvious to Sofia that even her own mother was jealous of her going to Europe seeing as how she never got to go. This made her smile a little; her grandparents were the only people that cared for Sofia.

"Did you ever consider being nice to your parents?" I glared.

"You're not nice to ours?" Mia stepped in.

"Why should I be? Neither of them treated me well, ever since I was a kid"

"You're much too thin, a stick practically"

"I wouldn't be surprised if none of you are in their will," Sofia scoffed.

They were all glaring at Sofia, she just shrugged she was only telling the truth, Sofia's parents weren't exactly civil to her grandparents.

"So what if my parents are loaded and won't help us financially we don't need them" her mother ranted.

"And we also don't care that she gets to spoiled the only one that doesn't do anything around here," Mia mumbled.

Sofia just rolled her eyes, "I have my education I'm in school, maybe that's why they want to take me for a vacation, a reward for my hard work, maybe if you wouldn't have dropped out of school they would have rewarded you as well,"

"Oh just shut up!" she screamed at her.

Sofia walked away, with tears in her eyes; it hurt that her parents and siblings thought so little of her.

Sure she came off as witty and didn't let them put her down, not in front of them that would only make the matter worse but inside it hurt and she could help but feel helpless and vulnerable.

Sofia was excited to be going away for a few months away from her crazy family that did nothing but shot her hopes and dreams down. The people she used to call her "family" wouldn't be with her on the trip.

"Thanks mamma this means so much to me"

"We're here" they both said.

Something seemed different, they didn't appear happy and gleeful they were very cold and serious. Sofia's grandmother looked sad and no matter how many times Sofia asked, she would only reply with "I'm fine, honey"

"Where are we? What is this place?" She wondered, walking into Ashworth Hospital/

"A hospital," her grandfather whispered.

"Are you all right?"

"Honey, it's not for our sake, it's for yours" he replied.

She blinked and couldn't understand a hospital? Wait, she looked around and finally took it all in. This wasn't just a hospital it was an Asylum, an Insane Asylum.

"What the hell?!" she blurted out.

"Honey, please calm down this is for your own good," her grandfather tried comforting her.

"No stay away from me, why would you do this to me?! I'm not crazy! “She cried.

"You don't think we noticed how depressed you were? And those scar on your arms, you don't really think we believe that we thought you fallen and scraped your arms?" he continued.

Sofia just shook her head violently trying to figure out why they would do this to her, her beloved grandparents thought she was a loony.

"I can't believe this is happening!" she started crying louder.

"Please Sofie we're only doing this for your own good," her grandma replied.

"For my own good?! What are you trying to do to me?!"

"We want you to get better, not worse" her grandma hugged Sofia tightly.

"I'll go check her in," grandfather nodded, and leaving them to talk.

"But... why mamma why?" she whispered.

"To get better, to stop this cutting nonsense and for you to be healthy like you used to be,"

Sofia soaked all her grandparents’ words in; she really didn't want to be in this place to many freaks and weirdoes. But she had to give in, she loved them and would do anything for them, so she nodded, too tired to argue any longer.
