Hope Will Fall Tonight With Broken Wings

Sitting in the waiting room of the hospital, was Velaska Sanders, her parents and her older brother Matt. Sitting there she broke out in hives, which is why they were there in the first place. Velaska would walk around her block, get nervous, stressed out and she would break out in hives. And sometimes she would get them and she wouldn’t know why. Velaska was a smart girl; she didn’t smoke or do drugs. She was just an 18 year old that’s a black belt in Tae Kwon Do; just graduated high school and was looking into becoming an accountant. These outbreaks of hives were the itchy kind, which didn’t happen a lot. As her naturally long fingernails scratched against her skin, her brother held her wrist to stop her. “But M, they’re itchy like really itchy. They feel hot on my skin” Velaska whined
“I understand V, but you can’t itch them; it’ll make them worse” Matt said

Velaska then raised her arms to her face and blew on them. It felt good. “What the hell is taking he doctors so god damn long?” Matt asked slightly pissed off
“Matt, dear, calm down. They are just running the test” Mrs. Sanders said. No one said anything more and it felt like forever before the doctor walked out and called out Velaska’s name. The four of them followed him into a empty examining room. “We found out what seems to make you break out in hives. It seems as if your skin is allergic to your won sweat. However we don’t know why you randomly break out in hives. We can send you to Boston, Mass. There is a specialist there that specializes in medical mysteries such as your case” the doctor said
“So there isn’t anything here for her? She’ll have to go to Boston?” Mr. Sanders asked
“Fortunate, unfortunately yes” the doctor said

Mr. Sanders turned to his wife and said “I guess we can see if we can get a transfer from work to Boston”
“I don’t want M to come” Velaska said
“Why the fuck not?” Matt asked pissed off
“Watch your mouth” Mrs. Sanders warned
“Because your band is just getting noticed. You move with us and everything you’ve worked so hard on will be nothing. Just promise you’ll visit me” Velaska said
“Everything will be okay” Matt said pulling his sister into a hug
“I will give you all the information you’ll need. And I’ll call the specialist for you. What you have will not kill you if you decided not to go. Though you’ll be able to maintain outbreaks and maybe find a cure” the doctor said. He gave them the info they needed and then left.

The Sanders family left the hospital and picked up Velaska’s favorite Asian food in hopes of cheering her up. She was pretty down; well anyone would be if they found out that their skin is allergic to something as simple as sweat. Once home, they all sat around the table and ate dinner together. Though Velaska did enjoy the Asian food, her mood was the same. Velaska was in a daze and Matt dragged her to his band practice in hopes of cheering her up. “So Laska, what did the doctor say?” Val, Matt’s girlfriend, asked. Velaska really loved her, she thought Val was perfect for her brother. “They basically said that I’m a freak” Velaska said with tears in her eyes.
“We can be freaks together” Jimmy said pulling Velaska into his arms.
“What did they really say?” Zacky asked

“That my skin is allergic to my own sweat” Velaska said in a small voice
“Is that even possible?” Brian asked
“But that’s not the worse part. The doctors here don’t know what to do. They said there’s a specialist in Boston, Mass that could help me. So we might be moving to Boston” Velaska said
“That’s retarded” Johnny said
“Don’t worry guys I’m not moving. V told me that she won’t allow me to move because Avenged Sevenfold is just starting to get noticed. We just have to promise to visit her” Matt said
“We can do that” Brian said with a smile
“We’ll miss you” Jimmy said
“Cheer me up by playing for me” Velaska stated but sounded more like a beg. Everyone smiled and took their sports in the basement of Brian’s parents’ house.

They played all of their songs, which of course cheered Velaska up like it always would. They didn’t talk about moving or anything like that for the rest of the night. And soon Velaska and Matt had to head home. Not because it was a school night, because both of them are out of high school, (Velaska actually just graduated two weeks ago) but they had to be home because it was way past midnight and their curfew was 1am. Velaska cried herself to sleep that night. And for the next couple of days Velaska was not herself. A couple of weeks later, Mr. and Mrs. Sanders called a family meeting. Matt, Velaska and themselves sat in the living room. “What’s this all about?” Matt asked
“Well your mother and I talked to work and we got a transfer to Boston. This means Velaska’s going to see the specialist. And they have great colleges, so you can go to college there” Mr. Sanders said.

“But what about Matt? I don’t want him and his band to not work out because I’m a freak” Velaska said
“That won’t happen. I talked to Zacky’s family. They said he could live with them. That way you can get the treatment and he can still have his band” Mrs. Sanders said
“I still wish you didn’t have to go to Boston to get treatment” Matt said to Velaska
“I know, but don’t worry I’ll come back. Ummm when do we leave?” Velaska asked her parents.
“In a month; we still are looking for a place” Mr. Sanders said
“Oh” Velaska said with her head down. She’s glad that she’s going to get treatment. But she wishes she didn’t have to go to Boston to get it or move away from Matt. Matt isn’t just her brother, he’s her best friend.

Matt tried to cheer her up, but it didn’t work to his full intentions. Velaska had to tell her work what was going on and unfortunately they couldn’t transfer her. But she worked for as long as she could. “Laska, everything is going to be okay” Brian said during band practice
“But I don’t have you guys to protect me. I mean just one look from you and they’ll leave me alone” Velaska said
“But you have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. So you’ll be fine, I know you will” Johnny said
“Just call us, like more than once a month” Zacky said
“I will” Velaska said “Can we talk about something else; I’m not in the mood to cry”
“Okay then, we’ll play for you; how does that sound?” Jimmy asked
“Great” Velaska said with a genuine smile. Matt kissed her forehead before he took the mic.

“M I’m not 6, I’m 18; stop kissing my forehead” Velaska said wiping away the kiss with the back of her hand.
“But V, I know you love it” Matt said with a smirk
“Just sing” Velaska said. Matt just laughed before he started to sing. Avenged Sevenfold’s music always made her feel better, make her feel energized even when she felt so drained. She hoped that they got famous because they were too awesome to only be an underground band. She soon walked home alone; Matt was sleeping over Val’s house. And it’s not like it’s a bad walk as they all lived close to each other. Once she got in, she kissed her parents, who were already in bed sleeping; then went to her own room. She changed to her PJ’s then climbed into bed. She was going to need all the sleep she could get because she and her parents move in a week, and she has absolutely nothing packed.
