Hope Will Fall Tonight With Broken Wings

From West Coast To East

Matt, Val, Jimmy, Johnny, Zacky and Brian all gathered around Matt’s house as his parents and Velaska were leaving that day for the East coast. “Don’t forget to call” Jimmy warned
“Don’t forget to visit” Velaska warned back
“Please take care of yourself” Matt said
“I will, don’t worry” Velaska said
“And you better still be our number one fan” Brian said
“Of course, don’t be silly” Velaska said
“Take care of Matt for us” everyone heard Mrs. Sanders said to Mrs. Baker. There were more goodbyes before Velaska got in the back of the car that was going to be leading the movers to the new place. Velaska was quiet the whole ride, just texting away on her phone. She couldn’t wait until she could, and would be moving back to California, where she knows she belongs.

It was a couple of days before they finally reached their new home. Velaska wasn’t too happy to be there. She jus brought in the boxes then stayed in the house. She was pissed at the world because she’s a freak in her own skin. She had some time to get situated before she was to meet the doctor. Once she had all the boxes in her room, her parents called her down for dinner. She ate without saying a word. Her parents knew she was depressed. She’s very close with Matt, and this was a big move. Once she was done eating, she excused herself from the table and went back to her room. She put her things away while she listened to her music. The east coast was different. Even though it’s summer, it felt colder here (not that she minded it). Even the way people lived seemed different. There was a lot of things she was gunna have to get use to. And she had to pretend to be happy around her parents.

She knew her parents would know that she wasn’t happy. But her parents transferred job locations for her, so she had to seem happy, for them. She went to bed late due to the fact that she’s not use to the difference in time zones. She slept in and once her room was all set, she went for a walk to see her new neighborhood. Upon her walk, a neighbor that looked to be around her age walked up to her. “Hey, you just moved in?” the girl asked whom looked a lot like Velaska.
“Yea, all the way from California” Velaska said
“Why move here? Most people are moving there” the girl said
“I have to see a specialist here in Boston” Velaska said
“What’s wrong?” the girl asked
“My skin’s allergic to my own sweat” Velaska said
“Oh, sorry. By the way my name is Charlottee” the girl said
“Velaska, but you can call me Laska or V” Velaska said

“It’s nice to meet you Laska” Charlottee said, then she added “Do you want me to show you around town?”
“That would be great” Velaska said with a smile. Velaska had a feeling that she and Charlottee would become best friends. After all she looked a lot like her. Velaska had 12 earrings in both ears, and Charlottee had her ears pierced multiple times as well. And where Velaska had spider bites on the left side, Charlottee had a single piercings on the right side. Velaska did have her nose pierced but Charlottee did not. Charlottee did however have more tattoos than Velaska but that didn’t matter, they just figured that Velaska would be the pierced friend and Charlottee the tattooed one. Charlottee even told Velaska that she would bring her to get more tattoos. Velaska now thought that moving to the east coast wouldn’t be so bad though she missed Matt and them a lot.

Velaska spent the rest of them day with Charlottee, but soon she had to say goodbye and goodnight. She was not really looking forward to the doctors. She slept alright that night; she woke up late and got ready for the day. Once she was all set, she got in the car with her parents and they headed to the doctors. Just sitting there in the waiting room, Velaska had a small break out of hives; luckily for her they weren’t itchy. “Velaska? Dr. Appleton will see you now” the nurse said fifteen minutes after they got there. Velaska and her parents followed the nurse into a room. “The doctor will be right in” the nurse said and then left. And just like she said, no more than two minutes later the doctor came in. “Velaska, tell me what induces you to break out in hives” Dr. Appleton said
“Stress, when I’m nervous, exercising, even waiting to come here I did. I still have them” Velaska said

Dr. Appleton looked up from his iPad, which he was taking notes on, and noticed that she as indeed covered in hives.
“Did you fast?” the doctor asked
“If you are asking if I ate anything since dinner, the answer is no I haven’t” Velaska said
“Perfect. I’ll be drawing some blood then” Dr. Appleton said. He got everything all set and then drew her blood. “This will tell us if there is a chemical in your system that causes you to break out. Now explain to me what you mean by exercising makes you break out?” Dr. Appleton asked once he was done drawing her blood.
“Well I would walk my dog around the block and I would break out in hives. And when I did Tae Kwon Do I would break out. Oh and heat makes me break out. I’ll be in the sun, with sunscreen on, and I’ll break out in hives” Velaska said as Dr. Appleton took note of it all.

“Well we’ll have you come back tomorrow and we’ll run a sun test and exercising test. I’ll take a sample of your sweat and see what the results say” Dr. Appleton said
“Does she have to fast for that too?” Mrs. Sanders asked
“No, we prefer, for those, test that she eats. We want it to be like she would be in the sun or exercising on her own. That way we can get the best results” Dr. Appleton said
“Alright, we’ll see you tomorrow” Mr. Sanders said. Dr. Appleton shook their hands before they left. The Sanders left and went home. “I’m sure we’ll find out what’s wrong” Mr. Sanders said
“I just want to go home” Velaska said
“That’s where we are heading” Mr. Sanders said
“No, I want to go back home” Velaska said
“Oh sweetie, we will in time” Mrs. Sanders said
“Not soon enough” Velaska mumbled.

The rest of the day seemed to have gone by quickly. The Sanders soon fond themselves back at Dr. Appleton’s building. Dr. Appleton had Velaska change into a pair of shorts a black tank top. Once she was changed, they placed her in a room that had the sun beaming on, this was the sun test. Velaska opened the doors and stood directly in the sun. Slowly but surely hives started to appear all over her skin. The doctor took a sample of her sweat, and then he led her to the gym. “I want you to wake two laps around the track” Dr. Appleton said. Velaska just did what she was told and walked around the track twice. And sure enough she broke out in more hives. It covered her legs, back, arms, chest and neck. The doctor took a sample of her sweat and wiped a q-tip across her arm as well. “What else gives you hives?” Dr. Appleton asked
“Stress and when I’m nervous” Velaska said.

“Okay then, we’ll do a stress test” Dr. Appleton said.
“Fine” Velaska said. They did a stress test and then Dr. Appleton told tem that they would get a phone call when the results were in. By the time the Sanders went home it was late and so they picked up Chinese food on the way home. It was a couple of days before they got the phone call about the results and Dr. Appleton asked if they could talk about it in person. So the Sanders went to his office to hear the result. “Okay, the results weren’t as great as I hoped; turns out that there’s a chemical in your system that causes you to break out. That chemical is also in your sweat. I do however have an organic medication that you can take. It’ll make the chemical non-allergic to your body” Dr. Appleton said
“Thank you Doctor” Mrs. Sanders said
“You’re welcomed” Dr. Appleton said
