Hope Will Fall Tonight With Broken Wings

Velaska was smiling for pictures at her graduation. She was so glad that she was done with that school. She was so looking forward to moving back to California. Even more excited to see her brother again. She hasn’t seen him since he visited for her birthday when she first started school. And she missed his wedding because it was during finals and she couldn’t miss any of them. “Are you happy to be out of school?” Charlottee asked
“Of course I am. We are finally moving to California” Velaska said
“Can’t wait” Charlottee said with a grin. Velaska and her parents talked with some of Velaska’s favorite professors. They all had only the greatest things to say. They soon left to go have a celebratory lunch, though Charlottee had to go to work so she wasn’t going to join them. But Velaska promised to hang out with her when she got out of work.

“So, your father and I have been talking. We decided that we’ll pack and drive back to California. And I already talked to Charlottee’s parents. They can’t really stop her but I told them that I would call them once we get to California. And then I’ll give her all the information she’ll need” Mrs. Sanders said
“I can’t wait” Velaska said with a wide smile
“I know that Matt misses you so much. He wishes you could’ve gone to his wedding but understands why you couldn’t” Mr. Sanders said
“I just want life to go back to normal. For me to live down the street from Matt and the guys. And have fun at their parties; to watch their kids when they have them. Only two good things came out of moving here: Charlottee and ‘curing’ my freak disease” Velaska said
“What about the fighting thing?” Mr. Sanders asked

“Oh you mean the MMA thing? I love it; but I would’ve found out about it in Cali just like I found bout it here” Velaska said
“Oh, well I’m glad you found something like it” Mrs. Sanders said
“Yea, I’m proud to be part of it” Velaska said with a smile. She does have to take out her facial piercings; her ears are fine, especially since they wear head gear when they fight. She’s been doing the MMA thing for almost 3 years now. And she doesn’t fight as much because most of the time she has to go against a guy because there aren’t enough girls around there to fight against. But that never mattered to her, she preferred guys because the girls attended to always go for the hair. “Well I’m sure you can continue it in California” Mr. Sanders said
“That’s what I’m hoping for” Velaska said

“What about work?” Mr. Sanders asked
“I’m sure I’ll be able to find a job in bookkeeping. I mean worse come to worse I’ll just see if I can work for M and them” Velaska said
“That is a nice plan B” Mr. Sanders said
“Your brother is so proud of you. You do excellent in school and got control of your hives. He doesn’t know about the MMA thing, I figured you would tell him” Mrs. Sanders said
“I can’t believe that M married Val less than a month ago. They deserve each other” Velaska said with a smile
“And you deserve someone as well” Mrs. Sanders said
“And I shall get someone, but when I’m back home in California” Velaska said. The rest of their meal they talked about her experience in college and her ultimate place to work.

They had desert before they headed home. At a four-way intersection, the Sanders’s car stopped and Mr. Sanders looked all three ways. There were no other cars, so he went. In a matter of seconds their car was hit. A car came speeding down one of the roads and crashed into the driver’s seat, and the Sanders’s car fell over onto its side. The driver drove away instead of calling 911; they didn’t want to get in trouble for plowing through the four-way intersection. Luckily a cop was actually pulling up to the intersection and saw the whole thing. He jumped out of his car and dispatched an ambulance as he ran to the car. Mr. Sanders died on impact. The cop checked Mrs. Sanders’s pulse and she had a faint one. Velaska on the other hand had a stronger pulse but was unconscious. Her right shoulder was dislocated and she had a huge cut on her forehead.

She also had tons of cuts all over her because of the back seat’s window shattering. The EMT’s rushed to Mrs. Sanders while the second team of EMT’s was still in route. Once they arrived they ran to Velaska they rushed to the hospital. The driver that caused the accident hit the car so hard that they left a license plate impression. At the hospital, Mrs. Sanders was rushed into the ER, but she ended up meeting up with her husband in heaven. Velaska was placed in a room after her shoulder got put back in place and all her cuts were taken care of. There, her unconsciousness turned into a coma. The hospital contacted Charlottee’s family since they were listed as their emergency contact. Charlottee’s mother was asked to go to the hospital. She arrived at there and talked to the doctor inside Velaska’s room. “I am sorry to tell you this, but her parents past away” the doctor said.

Charlottee’s mother, Mrs. Delie, started to get teary-eyed. “Miss Sanders is in a coma. We have no idea how long she might be in it. Since bother her parents past away and you were the first on the emergency list, I’m giving you custody of her. You may also take their personal affects. It may help you with the road ahead of you” the doctor said. Mrs. Delie just nodded her head as she couldn’t find her voice. She got all of the Sanders’s personal affects and headed home. She did not want to tell her daughter about the accident, she wasn’t sure how she would be able to find the words to tell her. She went home and set the bag with all their personal affect on the counter. She couldn’t get over what had just happened. Soon Charlottee was walking through the front door of her house. “Hey mom, I’m going to go over Laska’s house” Charlottee said

“Charlottee, I have to talk to you” Mrs. Delie said
“Okay” Charlottee said walking to the kitchen where her mother was sitting on a stool on the bar part of the island. “What did you want to talk about?” Charlottee asked sitting down next to her mother
“I don’t know how to say this but… the Sanders were in a car accident. Velaska is the only one who survived and she’s in a coma. I’ll take you to the hospital” Mrs. Delie said. Of course Charlottee agreed, she didn’t want to believe her mother. When Charlottee saw Velaska, she lost it; she sat down, hard, in the chair next to the bed and balled her eyes out. “I promise Laska, I’ll visit you everyday. And I’m sorry about your parents. I’ll do everything they say in the will. And I’m going to call your brother. Don’t worry I’ll be here for when you wake up” Charlottee said crying.

True to her word, once Charlottee had stopped crying she sat up in her bedroom just staring at her phone. She used Velaska’s cell phone to get Matt’s number. She finally dialed the number and brought it to her ear. It rang a few times before Matt answered it. “Hello?” Matt asked
“Hi Matt. This is Charlottee, Laska’s friend” Charlottee said
“I remember you. Is everything okay?” Matt asked concerned and Charlottee shook her head though Matt couldn’t see.
“No. I’m so sorry Matt. Your parents and sister were in a car accident. Laska’s the only one who survived. She’s in a coma now” Charlottee said crying again by the end. Mat was silent. “Thanks for calling and telling me. Please keep me updated with the arrangement of my parents. And on how V is” Matt said painfully
“I will” Charlottee said.
