My head was rocking backwards and forwards in time with the rocking train. My head was resting on James’s left knee. His strong capable fingers gently unravel the knots and tangles in my blond ringlets. They move through my hair with purpose, but also hold a gentleness that is calming my nerves.

You see we are on our way, on our way to Queensland. Home of the gold rush, and beautiful never ending beaches. James was confident we could buy into the gold rush with the money he had saved, I hope he is right. You see for me money had never been a problem, this was a new experience for me, and it was not a pleasant one.

I never want to be wealthy again, I assure you. But what would happen if we didn’t have enough, what would happen if we lost his savings. These are the worries that plagued me not the fact that I couldn’t have next season’s gown. I worried because what would happen to us if we couldn’t buy into the gold rush, that was our only plan, there were no alternatives.
