Lullaby

Chapter 5

I headed home, hoping I could get my things and leave before Dad got home. Just for now, I was getting only a few things. I would get the rest later.

But, when I came down the stairs, my thoughts were crushed. "You. Sit. Now," Uncle Tommy said, pointing to the couch.

"Why should I?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Now!" I never saw Uncle Tommy mad, so this was really scary. I sat down only in hopes of him calming down. That was soon crushed when he faced me. "What is wrong with you?!"

"Me?! I'm not the one or drugs!"

"Your father is not on drugs! You need to get that out of your head!"

"Well I'm sorry if that's hard to believe since someone dropped Cocaine off for him earlier!"

He frowned. "Did you get a look at him?"

"No, I was a bit too distracted with the thought of my father back on drugs!"

"He is not back on drugs! What is it going to take for you to realize that?!" A tear rolled down my cheek and I didn't notice until Uncle Tommy said something. "Why are you crying?" He snapped.

I shook my head, standing up. "I'm not dealing with this."

"Oh, you put your dad down, but now look at you. You're the one running away now!"

"Just stop!" I yelled, ready to pull my hair out.

"Jas." I swiveled around, hearing my father's voice. "Calm down, okay? Let's just talk about this."

"I don't want to talk! I just want to get out of here!"

"Well you don't have that choice!" My whole life my dad had never raised his voice to me. Even though I was pissed about what was going on, I was taken aback by it. "Jas, I'm sorry," he sighed.

"No, just leave me alone." I threw my bag in my car and drove off before anyone else could stop me.

I drove to my mom's house, having no idea what I was going to tell her. Maybe I should just ask her if I can crash with her until I found a new place to stay.

When I got to the house, I knocked on the door, waiting for an answer. My stomach was in knotts the whole time. "Jasmine?" Mom asked, confused.

"Hey, Mom."

"What are you doing here?"

Okay, ouch... Not what I was thinking she would say.

"Um, Dad and I actually kind of got into a fight. I can't stay there anymore. I was wondering if I could come and stay with you."

She got a weird look in her eyes. "Well..."

Suddenly, I got a feeling, one I didn't like. "Oh, I see..." She obviously doesn't want me here.

"I mean, are things really that bad?"

I shook my head. "Just forget about it." Before she could pull anymore shit, I just left.

"Now, plan two is down the drain..." I mumbled, and continued to drive aimlessy around town.

It was soon getting dark, and I didn't know where to go. I couldn't stay with any family or friends, because that would be the first place that they would look for me. For now, I was just sitting at the park.

My phone started ringing out of nowhere, and i thought of ignoring it, but didn't. "Hello?"

"Jas, where are you?" Gunner asked, sighing in relief when I answered.

"Why does it matter?" I snapped.

"Stop acting so childish, Jasmine," he snapped back. "You need to come home and sit down with Dad and talk to him about this. This is ridiculous and needs to be put to an end."

"You don't need to be telling me what to do. I'm a big girl, I can make my own decisions."

"Yeah, you've made that point," he scoffed.

"Screw you, Gunner!"

"Where are you, Jasmine? Mom's? I'll just come pick you up."

"No, actually. She didn't want me staying with her. Mommy Dearest doens't have the room, apparently."

"Oh, Jas-"

"I don't need your pitty, Gunner. You were just scolding me like a child, remember?"

"Is that her?" I heard Dad's voice in the background.

"Yeah." Damn you, Gunner...

"Jas? Please come home. Let's just talk about all of this. This whole thing is getting blown out of porportion."

"Drugs! Does that mean anything to you?! Well, obivously not."

"Jasmine, I swear that guy was sent to set me up or something. I'm not back on drugs or anything. I would never to that, Jazzy."

"Who would want to set you up, Dad?! I mean, really? How do you explain that?"

"I can't, Jazzy, I really can't. I wish I could, but I can't." I was silent, not having anything else to say. "Are you coming home now?"

I sighed. "No." I hung up my phone, tossing it in the passenger seat. "I guess I'll just stay in here tonight," I mumbled, crawling into the back seat.

It took a while for me to get comfortable. When I finally did, I fell asleep. It was cold in the car, but it wasn't like I could leave the car running with the heater on.

"Shut up, you're going to wake her up," someone hissed in a hushed whisper.
