The Road Trip
Chapter 12
Chapter 12
As I was driving, my freshly formulated plan in the front of my mind, I tingled with excitement. This is fool-proof! Definitely going to work. I can’t wait, Eric’s going to talk to me again! I thought giddily. The only thing I had to do now was pick up Levi, apologize, and then fill her in. My mind, so fogged up with elation, sped up the car to reach the hospital in, what will probably be, record time.
}..{
I parked in the hospital quickly after skidding to a near stop in the lot. I need to calm down, I nearly took out that elderly lady with the walker. And yet, I still felt excited. Besides, she was a mean lady, even though I apologized (although I may have still had a grin on my face from my excitedness…) profusely, she still gave me a rude gesture and a death glare. Oh well, it’s all good. I got out of my car, after parking it only slightly crooked.
Just then, Levi walked out from behind the hospital, saw the care, and began running at me with a crazed look on her face. As she ran toward me, I lost my train of thought and probably had an expression on my face that resembled a terrified person about to get eaten by a zombie! Well, maybe not a zombie, but a crazed serial killer! Nah, they aren’t scary, hmmmm…. How about a CEREAL KILLER!! Bingo! I looked like I was about to be eaten by a cereal killer and I was the cereal killer’s favorite cereal! Talk about scary, woo think that I just got chills. BUT ANYWAYS, Levi was running toward me, all crazy-looking, and when she finally got to me, she stopped, cocked her head to the side, and gave me a hug. But I didn’t notice the hug part for at least a minute, since I was still freaked out and looking to make sure she didn’t have a taser or a machete on her, both of which she has used before.
When I did calm down, and allowed myself to enjoy the hug, she told me something.
“I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have even freaked out a little bit when you exploded at me. I knew exactly why you were doing it, but I still took everything personally. Soo I’m sorry for not being there, and sending you away instead.” Levi said. I felt my eyes tear up a little. But it was my fault, and you’re feeling guilty for sending me away? I didn’t let myself start crying, I sucked the tears back in, pulled away to look her in the eye, took a deep breath, and told her.
“No, I appreciate you saying that, but I’m the one who should be sorry. I shouldn’t have said those things to you, no matter how mad, sad, or confused I was. Especially since none of those feelings were towards you at all. And you don’t blather on… I’m sorry for saying that. The worst part is as soon as I had done it, I wanted to take it back. But saying those things to you were a relief, like I had let all of my emotions out, and now there weren’t any left in me, making me numb. And I thought… well I thought that if I took those things back then all the pain would come back too, and I couldn’t handle that, so for my own selfish reasons, I didn’t apologize to you right away… sorry again.” I told her faltering toward the end, but still finishing my complete and total apology. We were quiet for a minute. Then we hugged again, smiling at each other, not wanting to be apart from each other anymore.
After the hugging and the reconciliatory jumping up and down, I explained my plan to Levi, which had already entered phase 2, now that Levi and I were on good terms. Lev’s face started out neutral, and then gained a smile that got bigger through the entire thing, until she exploded at the end and had to let out a giggle. Of course Levi would enjoy this…
“Well… This. Is going. To be gooood.” Levi said to me, while rubbing her hands in an evil way, and having a sly look on her face. She is sooo going to give us away.
“Gosh Lev! Calm down, you’re going to blow it. I’m gonna make the call now.” I told her and she started to walk the mandatory 5 feet away, that way she could still hear the phone conversation (well my end anyway) and make sure Eric didn’t hear her giggling during the call. When she was in position, I pressed speed dial number 3 and watched the screen as Eric’s number popped up. I had made sure that I was on private, so that Eric wouldn’t know who was calling. Phase 2 initiated. I thought while the phone rang. Once. Twice. Three times, I was getting worried. But then, in the middle of the fourth ring, Eric picked up.
“Hello?” Eric partially asked and said. This is it.
“Hello, sir, this is Officer Parker of the Valdosta, Georgia Police Unit. Who is speaking?” I replied, changing my voice to being deeper and a little more gruff. Where did ‘Parker’ come from? Oh well, it sounded okay.
“Oh, this is Eric Colton, sir; may I ask why you’re calling me?” Eric said to ‘Officer Parker’, sounding a little startled, but still composed.
“Well, there has been a crime around the area, that your car license plate was spotted, therefore we wanted to warn everyone to be aware of the possibility that a criminal might race out into the street. And I picked the small straw, so I had to be the one to call all of the people; you know what I’m saying?” I started to slouch my stance a little, acting like a cool, laidback copper.
“Yeah, I got it.”
“Well anyways, we need your location and your destination to be sure you’re safe, if you don’t mind.”
There was a slight pause, I held my breath for a short second. Until Eric said, “Sure, I’m on… let’s see here, road sign, road sign… Aha! Pineapple Smoothie Road, interesting town you’ve got here, and I’m heading down to Orlando, Florida.”
“Oh, sounds fun, good for you. Okay, on behalf of the whole Valdosta Police Station, I thank you for your cooperation, and hope you have a nice day.”
“You too.” Then we both hung up. I coughed in order to get my voice back to normal, rather than that deep, gruff voice. I took one look at Levi, and we both burst out laughing. Hers was probably because Eric fell for that and the way my voice sounded, mine was for that, plus the relief of the tension that was running through me if that hadn’t worked and the happy feeling I got with hearing Eric’s voice.
“Well, that was fun!” I told her chipperly, reminding myself of that odd, red-headed nurse inside the hospital.
“Indeed it was, good thing you thought of the whole ‘mandatory five feet away’ thing, otherwise I would have burst out laughing during the call and sabotaged the entire thing!” Lev said.
“Yuuuuppppeeerrrrsss!”
“So what do we do now?”
“Weeellll, now we get into the car, and drive along Pineapple Smoothie Road and head towards Orlando, Florida, which we were anyway, to catch up to him, so that I can apologize and we can all be friends again!” Ideally, at least.
“Sounds great!”
“Okay then, we’ve agreed, now let’s hop to it!” With that we began hopping to the car just like the crazy people we are.
After starting everything up and pulling away from the hospital I’ve been at for so long, I thought, Now the adventure begins… or at least the chase part of it does!

Hiya guys! So far I have 13 readers, which I'm proud of, but only 2 comments. Both by the same person. So I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback and give me just one comment? Just to say whether you like or dislike the story? Literally, all you really need to put is 'I like your story' or vice versa, honestly I'd be happy with just putting 'like' or hate or just one word like that.
