Fireflies.

Cold Exteriors and Warm Hearts

Luce's P.O.V

The dorm room was small, and plain. With only a single bed, desk and draws it seemed very empty. The walls where an off blue, they almost seemed grey. The bedspread was white and the lamp was once white, I think. Now it was a fading yellow, with a black edging, the paint had started to peal.

I dumped my stuff on the bed, and walked over to the single window, I had to work to get it open, someone had painted over the edge and it had become stuck in place. Finally I got it open and I closed my eyes lifting my face to the cool air. Before I turned and looked at my room. Overall the place seemed cold, and empty.

Most had to share a room, but due to the lack of girl Hunters, the girls could have their own rooms. Which was a major plus, I had no desire to share with anyone. I pulled off my hoddy, the room was stuffy, the air almost stale. I tossed the hoddy onto the bed, and untied my hair from its bun, letting it fall in soft waves down my back.

The mirror was inside the cupboard, I found out a bit later, as I was putting my few things away. And I glanced at my reflection as I put away a stack of jeans and sweat pants. My hair hung around my shoulders in soft, golden waves. And without the hoddy, I was now in a pale blue tank top and grey sweatpants, I had changed out my jeans a while ago.

And I again noticed, with a sigh that I'd stand out and not in a good way. With my lightly tanned skin, and blonde hair I could imagine the nicknames already.

But I refused to dye it, I was never one to fit in with a crowd and that wasn't going to change here.
A knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts as I groaned inwardly. Although I did let a small sigh cross my lips as I stood and made my way to the door. I unlatched the latch and opened the door, slipping my features into a careful mask.

I expected one of my vampire resembling class mates, instead I got a guy that stood well over six foot, and had blonde hair a few shades darker than mine. With crystal blue eyes that looked down at me with a watchful expression.

I didn't say anything for a moment, maybe I had been too quick to judge, maybe there were a few exceptions to the goth rule. But he looked older, not my much but a few years had made all the difference, all traces of childhood had left his face.

He flicked his eyes over me, and I caught surprise in his eye. Finally he spoke, his words curious, "your Luce?". I gave a nod in a way of indication and opened the door to let him in, he gave a smile and nodded in thanks, before he stepped through the door. "I'm Alex" he said as he spun the desk chair around and sat on it backwards.

Ah, so this was my new mentor, he wasn't what I expected. I had expected one of my baddass looking class mates, not that he didn't look baddass, but he wasn't what I expected. He had a fierce edge that the other hunters had had. Although he wasn't as cold, no his was slightly warmer, or a warmth radiating out from within. I paused before speaking and I was thankful my voice sounded strong, "so your my mentor?" I asked stupidly and he gave a small smile and a nod. The smile was slightly crocked. My mentor was hot, dammit.

"Yeah, that's me, and your the new recruit." He gave another small smile, pausing before he spoke again. "Welcome to the Academy by the way" I gave another nod in thanks, as I went and sat on the bed, sitting cross legged. He said nothing for a moment, his eyes taking in the details of the room. He had no doubt read my file and knew everything there was to know about Luce DeRose. The thought made me feel slightly uncomfortable.

"So, you ready for your first training session?" He asked with an amused smile, I had been looking out the window and his eyes made me look at him sharply, "I didn't think I was starting until Monday?" I asked carefully. He gave a shrug, his words testing, "we can if you'd like but I figured you would want to get a head start." Before he had even finished I had moved, slipping on my shoes and tying my hair back, giving him a small smile, "lets go."

He gave an approving nod as he motioned me to go first, I did and we both left my dorm room.
